Do you mean why is it my favourite European country?
Yes, that. And if you prefer a lot of on-location shooting in Italy. Perhaps more than in Austria?
Oh I'm not picky, I'd love winter scenes and don't mind a good balance, it would be great to have significant scenes in Austria, juxtaposed by equally significant scenes across Italy. Also there's Morocco, which again is beautiful. I'm not going to get too excited by Austria just yet, as I'm really keen for some epic scenes in the mountains and I don't want to be disappointed if it doesn't work out that way. With Italy, what you see is what you get and from the reports it looks like we'll be getting some definitively 'Italian' scenes.
Oh, and on the favouritism front I just think it's an all round great country. Beautiful scenery, incredible food, world class design and architecture.
In all honesty, I hope this time around the Royal Palace of Caserta will be actually seen, which was not the case in "M:I 3" and "Angels & Demons". It's simply too beautiful to only use the interiors.
That is one stunning location =P~ Great find @skullkrusher!
Really? Awesome. Thanks for the more specific translation @Germanlady
--> Chateau d'Anet (near Paris, Anet, TB)
--> Château de Chantilly (near Paris, Picardy, AVTAK)
--> Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte (sjee, again near Paris, MR)
--> Stonor House (Blaiden Safe House, Oxfordshire, TLD)
--> Schoenbrunn Palace (Vienna, TLD)
--> Luton Hoo Palace (Luton, doubling for interior Beykoz, Istanbul, TWINE)
--> Küçüksu Palace (Beykoz, Istanbul, TWINE)
And we all know where those beautiful exteriors were used for...and in which part of the films. I'd love Palacio Real de Caserta being used for such exterior shots. Just have a look at this:
Utterly beautiful. Though I can't see how this castle will be in the final part of Bond 24. Usually, they are not lairs from diabolical villains.
She will play the Scandavian Bond girl role which has now.

Lea Seydoux played that bitch-girl Sabine Moreau in "Mission Impossible, Ghost Protocol". Uffff, wunderful sleepy looks she has. Not to mention her more Oscar-heavy role in "La Vie d'Adèle" (winner Palme d'Or! Here comes an Oscar-heavy starcast again!) and the wunderful "The Grand Budapest Hotel". And, if I'm not mistaken, the FIRST BLOND leading Bond-girl since.....since Maryam d'Abo??? IMO, a truly gifted actress. She is, like Eva Green, very carefull in what movies she wants to play. The blond counterpart of Eva Green ;-)? Thanks @Pierce2Daniel !
I'm still not 100% convinced, but we'll know if not soon, by December if it is fact.
Just to note: the article by Baz also mentions casting calls for Roman 'heavies', so hopefully we get some henchman with a lot of Italian flair.
Wow, there we go then. I was wrong. Shocking to get a parody site do something on a real scoop. For Seydoux to get the role which has meant it has changed from Scandavian to French is quite something. I wonder why the change happened? It was likely that she was the standout.
An Italian henchmen sounds alright too.
How can't you be convinced. IMO when casting an actress, it should be about acting potential....and proven acting skills (her entire filmography if you ask me). Not in the first place about nationality. Lea Seydoux is a rising star, just like Eva Green was in 2005. Seydoux's CV is truly stellar, especially when she did "La Vie d'Adèle" (winner Palme d'Or! Here comes an Oscar-heavy starcast again!) and the wunderful "The Grand Budapest Hotel".
I call that exquisit casting.
So she is not playing a Scandinavian Bond girl but a French one.
Yep ;-).
Calm down. I'm not saying I'm not convinced of her as an actress, I'm just not convinced she has the role yet. I'll wait for more reports to seep out, or the conference.
I don't know where all of that came from.
Anyways, I did love her small part in Inglorious Basterds, and I thought she was awesome in M:IGP, but there lays one of two issues.
Bond 24 will now share a location with MI:5 and an actress with MI:4. Why? As Goldfinger said: "Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, and three times is.." I'll let you all fill that one in.
The second issue is, to me, this is just obvious Oscar bait by the producers. The very fact that she has been so successful in the film industry should not warrant her a immediate role. Especially if the role has to have a complete nationality change and undoubtedly, script changes as well. The words 'stunt casting' come to mind.
Nevertheless, she is talented and I was immediately excited when I read the article. Roll on to December..
I'm also not convinced she wont be playing a Scandinavian role. She IS an actress..
She will play a French woman, you can bet your life on it. Why? Because Baz Bamigboye said so and the man has never been wrong when it comes to Bond news.
I just don't see the issues here. First of all, if M:I3 is the only frame of reference for you, then I find that a pity. Especially since her later movies IMO showed us way more of her capabilities. And Oscar-bait? After "Skyfall" you could more or less expect actors/actresses with similar heavy-weight CV's.
Casting less known actors/actors, solely for their nationalitit's, to make them fit I to the screenplay's country. Well, luckily we don't do that anymore :-).
Daniel Craig
Judi Dench
Javier Bardem
Ralph Fiennes
Naomie Harris
Bérénice Marlohe
Albert Finney
Ben Whishaw
Rory Kinnear
Ola Rapace
I guess we can expect a similar number of significant characters in Bond 24, so about 10. Returning from Skyfall:
Daniel Craig
Ralph Fiennes
Ben Whishaw
Naomie Harris
probably Rory Kinnear (although I am not 100% convinced yet)
Lea Seydoux is the first newcomer to be confirmed. We can expect about 4 more significant characters in the movie:
the main villain
the main Bond girl
a henchman
and an ally perhaps? or more villains?
I agree that we can *expect* more Oscar winners to *want* to be in a Bond film, I'm just not convinced that the answer should alwasy be "YES!". What is best for the series? The story they had already written? Casting a French actress to replace a role already re-written once sounds silly to me. If we just say yes to Oscar bait because they are Oscar bait, the series will become a parade of actors, and not the humble and strong cast of people known for their roles, like Lois Maxwell as Moneypenny, Desmond Llewellyn as Q., Bernard Lee as M., then-unknown Ursula Andress as Honeychile, and even up to Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and Giancarlo Gianinni as Mathis (both weren't huge went they joined the cast).
My argument is that Seydoux has already been in a major action film in the past 4 years, and it happened to be a spy series that is growing to be direct competition with Bond. Again, I'm excited for her casting, I just find it odd. "Steven Spielberg loved her" is not how I want my Bond girls cast unless he is directing it. Just look at Berenice Marlohe. Perfect example of a classic Bond girl. Nobody with ambition to somebody with success.
