Just tweeted Baz Bamigboye, and asked him if he could tell us when and where the press conference would take place. He said "not at the moment".

I did some research through the archives lol, and it looks like the date of Skyfall's press conference was announced 7 days before the event.

Although earlier that month, we were given some sort of window of when it would take place.

Though it's been all but confirmed, Hoyte Van Hoytema has now put an end to any speculation in a recent interview about whether Bond 24 will be shot on film or digital:

I'm kind of disappointed about this. Does this mean it won't be released in IMAX?

No, it doesn't necessarily mean that. They may end up shooting part of the movie on 70 mm IMAX film and even if they do not do that, they may still release the film in IMAX.

By the way Bond will not be the first franchise to return to film after using digital. Star Wars episode II and III were shot in digital but episode VII was shot on film. The Amazing Spider-Man was shot in digital, while its sequel on film.

    As what happened with Interstellar.

Regarding that article that Bond will use his detective skills. IMO doesn't mean SPECTRE or QUANTUM are back. I still think Bond 24 will be a stand alone villain. We will have new villains, new girls, and a new story that will not continue into another film.

I'm pretty sure any piece of information, people will assume Blofeld/Spectre/Quantum are back.

Just to clarify some information, those Instagram photos by David Gray were taken in Oujda in Morocco, a medium-size city bordering Argelia. ;)

In my honest opinion, Quantum, SPECTRE and SMERSH had their days. So, I'll settle for newer concepts and newer enemies. Why not use The Union from Benson's novels if they were to slip in an antagonist organization? Anyway, I think this time, I would love to see a female villain dominating the situation, whether it's a standalone anarchist or associated with a secret society, I'll be satisfied with it.

Well, your pictures didn't tell it though ;-). I'm slightly disappointed. Just watch "Skyfall" on BluRay and compare it with, let's say, "Casino Royale" on BluRay.The sheer resolution of SF is in my opinion absolutely magnificent.

Anyway, this confirmation is clear enough. On with Bond 24 ;-)!

Well, I did tell you that a lot of movies shot on film have certain scenes shot in digital.

It is unlikely that they will use explicitly elements from the continuation novels. And if they want to have an evil organization as recurring adversary, my bet is than they will either use Quantum which is already established, or go back to Fleming.

I know a lot of people here are reluctant about recurring adversaries, but they forget that however standalone were the original novels, SMERSH was a recurring threat in them. It appears, directly or indirectly, in CR, LALD, MR, FRWL and GF (when we learn Goldfinger might be their new treasurer). Not to mention that in TB we know that some of the members of SPECTRE belonged to the Russian organization before. That does not mean they will do it in the movies, but standalone movies can also have recurring adversaries.

  • The Skyfall IMAX release was IMO a business coup that I think they are not really proud of, from the artistic point of view. Has someone here ever seen a IMAX frame of Skyfall anywhere on the Internet ? Has someone ever heard Mendes and Deakins talking about the IMAX release ? Yes digital allowed a IMAX release by using the non-framed version of what was shot on the digital captor. But did they really care about it on set, hm...

I had to use a snapshot of a making-of showing the IMAX frame on the combo to illustrate how the frame was changed with IMAX. It's still the only image I've ever seen of an actual Skyfall IMAX frame.

Gee, even writing IMAX in capitals because it's written that way makes this post look like a commercial for IMAX :)

i agree about SPECTRE and SMERSH... but disagree about Quantum...... the end of CR laid the groundwork, and QOS expanded on it a bit - but there was no resolution.. for me personally, nothing chafes my hide more than setting up a potentially big storyline with no payoff - this isn't the WWE where that kind of crap happens on a weekly basis.. in some way shape or form, Quantum has to come back - if for nothing else to eventually be wrapped up and done with, because leaving Greene to die in the desert with a can of motor oil and arresting Yusef at the end of QOS doesn't cut it for me as a fitting conclusion..

Film does still retain the highest resolution, Digital isn't up there yet. So you're talking about the respective Blu-Ray transfers and not the inherent quality of the resolution.

Yeah, exactly. There is the same resolution, it just might be more "defined" whereas Casino Royale probably has a softer look. Also keep in mind that it was shot 10 years ago. Film still has a certain look that digital doesn't: it worked for Skyfall, but probably not for B24 or else HVH would have used it. Hopefully it will actually be filmed in IMAX, though!

Perhaps this has been already reported but Jeffrey Wright has confirmed in an interview that...
Felix Leiter won't appear in Bond 24

I don't think it will detract from the movie. I am just a bit sad about it.

The iMax ratio version of Skyfall was shown on Sky Movies here in Blighty. It will probably be released on blu ray when Bond 24 hits.

    Regarding Felix
I wish that he would be back in Bond 24. Oh well, it's gonna happen next time.

Unless they're gonna recast him (which seems unlikely, but you never know). I hope they won't recast him, though.

The way he replied makes me think it was at least offered. Sounds like scheduling.
