Wow, I'm so thrilled. Can't wait to see Mendes return to the realm of Bond. This'll be his second Bond in a row. Well, it's been a long time since we last saw that happen. ;-)

2015 then? Was kinda hoping to get the film by 2014 - being a fan of the 2 year interval - but hey, I'm an easy lay for any decision they make. ;) Craig will be 47 when the film is released. That's Roger Moore's age at the time of Golden Gun if I'm not mistaken... See, after Bond 24 he will still have 5 films in him. ;-)
Well it true. He was 37 when he did Casino Royale then turn 38 after the filming. Well let get our finger crossed. For the release in 2015.

Just hear the news. Although I was wishing a 2014 release I'm excited to know Mendes is back for sure, and I hope he will bring Deakins along. I think the rest of the year will be quiet then... Damn, I really wanted a new Bond next year.
Concerning the tone of the film, I really don't think it will be in the same mood as SF. Mendes designed SF as a film of closure, of setting the slate clean for Craig's Bond. I wouldn't be surprised if he offered us something completely different the next time.

Mendes has always said he never wants to play in the same genre twice. He has spoken of his distaste for Revolutionary Road as he felt he was stepping back into his old wheelhouse of tricks. I think Bond 24 will then be different from SF. But more akin to how The Dark Knight was different from Batman Begins. I think it will definitely be an extension of the world he established with SF but taken in a new interesting direction.

One thing for certain though: Mendes often spoke that if he was to return to Bond he wants to bring mi6 back to the centre of things. That was his aim with SF, to make the supporting mi6 team central to the movie opposed to mere cannonfodder. Mendes has said that if he returned he'd like to see more of the mi6 team in action - we now have an M and a Moneypenny both previous field agents and a Q who can assist them in a bunker. I think Mallory, Eve and Q will play a very large part of Bond 24.

Also the re-appointment of Mendes means a top-tier cast again. I'm praying that Leonardo Dicaprio is bought on as the villain, I re-watched Django the other day and the guy is ace in it.

Told you all :-). I was expecting a fall 2015 release. I was prepared for it.
Didn't you also say that EON were keeping that date for Chris Nolan, @Graves? :>

I can't say I'm enthralled by the release date. I can only hope that Mendes moves on from the introspective kitchen-sink-drama Bond and gives us a more rounded and sophisticated mission for Craig to have fun with on Bond 24. It's going to be a long wait finding out, that's for sure.

Revenge on Kincade? What did that poor fellar do wrong?

    Who's Kindcase?

Lovely girl: "Hi, I'm Miss Kindcase!"
Moore Bond: "And what a case to kindly handle you must be." *working eye brows*

Hmm. I so do not like Kevin Spacey; I hope he is not in it. Unless he is a villain, but then he'd have to be the main villain and I just don't enjoy seeing him on screen. So I hope not.

Kevin Spacey can be great in the right role but that role is not the main villain in a Bond film! I wouldn't mind him being involved in some capacity though.

I think Mallory, Eve and Q will play a very large part of Bond 24.

I'm a little afraid of this. I don't want to see Moneypenny in the field again and I'm a little tired of M having such a prominent role too.

He was good in Django but as a Bond villain? Hmm.. I don't know about that.

He said also Rory Kinnear's Bill Tanner was underused. As the three above are recent newcomers, I guess Tanner is currently the best candidate for Sam Mendes' usual death scene of a major character in the last reel !
And, well, I wrote how the influence of the Avengers could impact Bond : having him in a team of peers...

Dicaprio as Jack Spang would be really cool

Isn't that exactly the Problem? Mr. Mendes' "I wish" attitude without feeling any Obligation to stay true to Story (or Logic for that matter). We know he had changed the Script from Shanghai on (which is exactly, where a not to logical Storyline starts to fall completly apart)- for whatever reasons -and had the Goldfinger DB5 appear (which defied all the reboot and New realism at once). Obviously he puts himself far above a sound Story, or the Bond "Heritage" for that matter. Terence Young created such a believable Picture Of elegant, ruthless 007, because he shared the same british Upper Class Attitudes with Fleming and insisted that the Production kept true to it (i.e. Savile Row Suits, Rolex etc. All Things Broccoli and Salzmann initially wanted to save). On the other Hand he just stayed closest to Mr. Maibaums brilliant scripts and had no kind of "Hey,why have Bond not fighting a crocodile with bare hands" visions he forced onto the Story Flow. Seems like the exact opposite Approach to me. Many here seem to prefer the Mendes Way (with quite some passion) but Youngs Way created a legend, against which every Spy Film and Book is judged. Just think about it in a calm Moment.

I really don't like the sound of that to be honest. I think we've had too much MI6 as it is.

Me too. The less we see of MP the better. I don't care what anyone says, she was wooden as hell in SF, stick her behind the desk with a few lines and be done with it. As for Tanner, as I've mentioned on several occasions, I'd love to see Bond, M and Tanner in a Blades type scenario. Basically I want to see Bond and Tanner getting drunk together - a little bonding would go a long way to adding some depth to their relationship and, for me, would be very Fleming. It's this kind of character work that I'd encourage in B24, especially if Mendes is intent on using MI6. I want to see them out of hours, not guiding Craig through a video game scenario.

@RC7 Completely agree. I thought Harris was very wooden in SF and the only main cast member who didn't give a top notch performance (I didn't expect Marlohe, who'd never been in anything before, to blow her out of the water with a much smaller part).

I keep hearing about how Rory Kinnear is a great actor so I'd like it if they gave Tanner more than just lines of exposition. The Blades scenario is a very good idea I think and I'd enjoy something like that. Another good idea I read on here is to have Q having to fly somewhere with Bond, a very short scene showing that could be funny.

I'm just worried that when Mendes says he wants more MI6, he means more of M, Moneypenny and Tanner yelling to Bond through an earpiece while Q sits typing at a laptop helping Bond with his hacking skills.

Thirded, although I thought Harris did a very good job as MP. But at the end of the day, the films are about Bond, not his teammates and helpmates. People attend Bond films to see the exploits of 007, not to see him shepherded along by MP, Q, Tanner and M.

On the other hand, I would like to see a genuine Felix Leiter. And by that, I mean a lanky, blond, hawk-faced Texan wearning a Frank Sinatra suit and an ironic grin.

For all the talk of how great Harris is, I thought Sam Bond was much better. She wasn't wooden and even though she had some crap lines I thought she had great chemistry with Brosnan.

Harris and Craig's flirting seemed a bit forced imo. I hope she improves a bit in the next one. For now I think she's definitely the weak link acting wise.

    Agreed on Harris.

It's like the Craig one but better because we're judging her for her performance and not her hair colour.

I'd really enjoy seeing the typical 'Bond goes in, flirts with MP, meets with M, gets his weapons/gadgets from Q and he's off' mission for 'Bond 24.' I don't want it focusing on the others too much. Give Bond a woman or two and a villain to destroy.

I still in some sort of disbelief, that they cast the best possible MP, which was Helen McCrory, as someone else.

I loved Harris as Moneypenny. I thoroughly enjoy her chemistry with Craig and I hope that continues. Having said that though, I do NOT want to see Eve in the field again unless it is in a limited role. I probably would be okay with that.

I do want Leiter back with Wright. He's great.

But to my main point: I want Bond going it alone for the most part - that is James Bond - although I welcome some changes in the series and a change in tone for the next film. It makes me wary to read about having MI6 "more involved" because what I get from that instinctively is the Mission Impossible films vibe. I don't want that, I really don't. Bond can have some assistance from a good ally, help from MI6 in the background or a limited field encounter, but he does go it alone. That's his job. I want that part of this iconic character to not change. Please somebody from EON or Mendes camp, hear us. I don't mind bringing some fresh takes to characters (a young Q, etc.), a good story arc that is different, a different kind of M, etc. But James Bond does not need a team of MI6 with him, helping him. No thank you.

I think, MPnever really looked young,Notthose I remember at least. She is a secretary, some sort of spinster in a way (my reception of her), who dreams of Bond. That's how I saw the priginal duo Connery and ***.

I'd say TB2 would be great, but that's just me. (And no, NSNA was NOT TB 2).

I don't see how McCrory is too old. She can't be any older than Craig, she hardly looks old, and Maxwell and Bond weren't really young when they took the part were they?

@Germanlady I agree. I think McCrory would've made a good Moneypenny (although I thought Harris would do a good job and look how that turned out).

There were 35 and 34 respectively. The same age as Harris. Bliss was even younger. McCrory is 44. I don't want another Moneypenny is her 50's.

I don't see how she was wooden. She played it fine. Having just met Bond, they won't be quick to spouting innuendo's off to one another just yet.

I always thought Bond and Maxwell were in their late 30s. Bliss I know was fairly young, which is why I didn't mention her.

Harris is older than I thought she was too, she's aging pretty well. I thought she was just over 30 at the most (I'd like to say for the record, I think she's by far the fittest Moneypenny).

I thought her delivery with certain lines was wooden (the line about the beetles is one off the top of my head).

I do not want a Skyfall 2. A return to the Quantum situation is what I want to see getting resolved. Ideally with an unused Fleming title for the movie too would be a nice bonus too! :-bd
