I dont know what the gadgets are. I dont want to. However, as long as its not a roll call of wacky ideas like the risible car chase in DAD i dont mind. The Craig era has been a drip feed of introducing new ideas that "Reclaim some of the old irony". Bond felt more like Bond at the end of Skyfall than it has for years IMO

I completely agree. It's not that suddenly SP turns into another DAD. And having read the Empire Magazine article and having watched the 2nd vlog, I just don't see any proof that SP will be a "Brozzie Bond".

Has anyone said that SP is or will be a "Brozzie Bond"? I remember writing that one particular item being discussed seemed conceptually similar to the ideas in the Brosnan-era, ie. re-working classic moments, but I've not seen anyone on this board claiming SP will be like DAD. I think your imagination is running wild there, mate.

My imagination is boundless, and especially running wild when I'm creating topics :-). I love to channel my ideas yes, and it results in wunderful discussions I think.

But with regard to your last comment @RC7. I just don't "get" your criticism about the use or re-introduction of certain gadgets :-). If you say that this "particular item", being gadgets, is conceptually similar to ideas and executioned ideas in certain Brosnan films, then I find it not more than logical to debunk your worries at this particular stage of the production of "SPECTRE" by actually looking at how the gadgets were used in the Brosnan era.

That's hardly an example of my imagination running wild. It's a reaction to something you implied to.....

And again, I think your worries, at this particular stage of the production of "SPECTRE", are too soon, too early. Let's wait how the car chase turns out after Lee Smith has edited it together. I trust it'll be a memorable car chase.

Indeed. And judging from the camera shots, the car chase will be slightly more "observing from a distance" in character, compared to the car chase from QOS.

The wall you can see in the Video, the one under which the cars pass, is the so-called "Passetto". It runs from San Pietro to Castel Sant'Angelo and was used by Popes to escape in case of danger

So they completely abandoned Via Quattro Fontane as a filming location? Shame.

I implied SP would be like DAD? No, i didn't. You're just making assumptions and waffling again. I suggested that using
an ejector seat, in whatever guise, is along similar lines to the creative thrust of Brosnan era action. Looking at what had gone before and adapting. There's nothing particularly difficult to grasp there. It would seem odd in CR and QoS, not so much in GE-DAD.I say this assuming there is indeed one featured in this car chase. If not, hooray

The chase itself will no doubt be great, as I've said many times before.

@RC7 Whilst they've kept the Craig era more grounded than previous Bond films, there are still fans who are calling for gadgets - they're mentioned in reviews, forums, discussions etc. I've heard several comments along the lines of "I love the new films, but I miss the old gadgets - they're a big part of the Bond films". The film makers have heard these ideas too.

I think in a way, they have to pander to both sets of fans, traditionalist and sensationalists.

I think that gadgets can work in the "Craig era", so long as they're handled sensitively without going overboard. Invisible cars and x-ray glasses would be out of place, but ejector seats are a viable idea - hell, they've been proven plausible by the Mythbusters ;)

But one can also compare it with TSWLM no? Or perhaps even GF. Why I say GF? For me SF in a way was comparable to FRWL, gadget-wise: They both had this minor cased gadget. In FRWL it was a suitcase with golden sovereigns, a knife, and a bomb. In SF it was a tiny case with a radio transmitter and a personalized Walther PPK with palmreader. BOTH items for me felt really understated, nice and rather sophisticated.

Now, like GF, it is time to go a bit bigger, more elaborate. Not to stay very close to a novel or any other kind of writing material, but to re-invent the Aston Martin for a large audience. It was done in GF. They made the DB5 way more interesting than how it was portrayed in the novel. Now let's do it with the DB10 as well. Perhaps a bit more....realistic, as an
    ejector seat
this time will directly save Bond's life, not kill the life of the passenger.

Now, I understand that you say the gadgets used in SP are along the lines to the creative thrust of Brosnan era action. But I really see the gadgets evolving along the lines of the Connery era.....or the Moore era.

I more or less agree with RC7. The less gadgets, the better.

I kind of agree with this too. The inclusion of gadgets is a twisted road that took the franchise, but has never been essential to Bond. I guess they cannot be completely avoided now. But I hope they have as little of them as possible. I would be perfectly happy with the amount we had in CR or FRWL. And the way these movies used gadgets too. Believable gadgets used sparingly.

Gadgets can sometimes be a crutch. Like the Martini, like the Bond James Bond etc. etc.

It all depends on the way it's incorporated into the scene, and I agree, if used sparingly, it can be very effective. There must be some tension I think in order it to work.

For example, the knife in the suitcase in FRWL was used in a tense scene. The signature gun in SF was used effectively in the Patrice scene but rather obviously in the Komodo scene (where to me at least, it was less effective).

I'm sure this team knows this - they will use it carefully. I don't know about future studios and teams, but this team knows what it's doing imo.

If you say that, I also more or less agree. The way gadgets were evolving over the course of 40 years right until DAD wasn't always pleasurable. And @RC7 rightfully worries, but he worries too much I think.

To assume things, to criticize elements, or to worry about things at this stage in production, knowing that perhaps only ONE gadget will be used, goes too far for me. I don't expect the Aston Martin DB10 to be a submarine or the twin sister of the BMW 750. I recall in December some fans hinted at a submarine. Bullocks.

Just....just wait and see. I have high hopes. And I really think the car chase will have a very "Bullitt"-esque flair. Lots of moments where we can see Bond using his driving skills. Until the very end when someone seriously goes wrong and Bond HAS to depend on one life-saving gadget. That's what I think will be the case.

No cheesy Brosnan shit where he's on the backseat, but a pure dope skilled driver and racer: Mr Craig, Daniel Craig :-).

As a fan of character and plot, I would say that if gadgets are used as a replacement for Bond's ingenuity or as a way to progress the plot, then we are in trouble. One of the strengths of Bourne was that he used everyday objects to help him (remember the pocket linings for gloves in OHMSS? ) and that IMHO reflected so much better on him as an agent rather than getting given a gadget, designed and built by someone else that did the job. But I do respect that for many fans, gadgets are a key part of the Bond cocktail. I can imagine a Bond movie being the best ever AND being gadget free.

Someone named Carlos Zurita's employment contract for SPECTRE (I'm assuming an extra), dated March 7th for Mexico.

Personally, I would love to see Craig have a tracking device disguised as a cig lighter or a pen. Or the classic watch laser. I understand a lot of people don't want gadgets but I think they should bring back some simple but effective Q supplies ;)

According to our friends from the Italian Club, the next stop is in Via degli Scialoja, near the Tiber.
