Harris has confirmed the return of the kick-ass Moneypenny. She's getting back into training soon:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2519053/Winnie-Mandela-wore-says-actress-Naomie-Harris-role-Mandela-film-took-toll.html
    Eeee... not sure.

What I read is that the press says: "I mention that director Sam Mendes has said he wants Moneypenny to kick a heck of a lot more butt in the next 007 outing. Her face drains. ‘More training for me,’ she sighs, in mock horror."

Not exactly a confirmation, just a rumour put in the press mouth and a correct answer from the actress...

Terrible if true. Maybe another director would have been better after all.

She did say that she was going to start training soon, and filming is, what, nine or ten months away? Why would she need to go through training at all to sit at a desk and play the traditional MP role? I fear that she will indeed be out in the field doing more than she did in SF, sadly.

I never cared about Mendes returning and now I really wish he hadn't. He's messing with the characters too much. She's a damn secretary. That's it. I didn't even like what he did with MP in Skyfall. Bad news for us. Bad news for Bond.

I mean, I'm not diving into guarantees or anything, but if Harris herself stated that she's going to be starting training soon for a film that doesn't start for almost a full year, what other reason would there be other than action sequences?

I can't see any other reasons.

@Bounine, neither can I. Which has me very, very worried. Even after SF, which gave her some time in the field, she decides to return to be M's secretary, so you think "Ohh, okay, that's MP, and this is how she started out, so now she'll be the secretary, and she will have flirty, sexual tension with Bond and that'll be out."

    Apparently not.

God knows why they can't just follow tradition and give us a good story without being unfaithful to a character who has been in the series since the beginning. Load of bollocks. If they want an action woman again, assign this task to one of the Bond girls. Although I think we've had too many of these lately anyway - Wai Lin and Jinx, both of whom I don't like, and Camille.

I understand them having to reintroduce her since she wasn't in the first two Craig films, but why alter her entirely?

I thought her actions ended up having her contemplating not returning to the field, and then deciding to just work as M's secretary. What's the reason for her returning now?

I think Harris is joking (and perhaps the person who asks too).

    One year until the filming, come on! 8-}

It's a bit of an insult to crowd poor Wai and Camille (especially Camille) with that other thing they call a Bond girl, but I digress.

You can all get up in arms about MP doing more than she did (action wise) in Skyfall, but how about you reserve your judgements until you see some actual footage? All may not be as it seems, as MP's larger role in regards to action in Bond 24 contradicts her entire character's development, something that someone as sharp as Mendes is quite aware of. And if we're worried about her character being unfaithfully presented, then other films in the series that screw with who Bond is would be set up for a good burning too, eh? Anyway, let's not get too worried just yet.

I feel this topic deserves it's own Discussion, so I've created one.
    http://mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/8489/the-craig-re-make-the-definitive-discussion

Craig has been a Bond remake, not just an interpretation. Moneypenny is stuck at a desk no more.

Going off of Harris' words, that's how it seems she'll be.

@JWESTBROOK, I posted in your new topic, it's a good idea to take the discussion there. Like I said, I'm not crazy about the idea, but I won't hate it, either. I enjoyed Eve being in the field in SF, then seeing MP behind the desk at the end of the film, so I wonder how she'll end up fighting alongside Craig again. No matter what I like or don't like, I'm always itching for another Bond movie, and Mendes impressed me enough with SF, so I'm curious to see what he does next. Was the film perfect? Absolutely not, I have quite a few things I'd like to alter about it, but he still did quite the job.

Respectable and respectful as always, @Creasy. I look forward to hearing many opinions on just what exactly Craig's era has been, and will be.

To get back on the topic in the title..
Duran Duran is on the 'One Sony' artist short list on Page 65 of this thread, and having performed a Bond theme before and recently getting back together, that puts them 2 for 2 alongside Adele, Alicia Keys, and Celine Dion in the Bond 24 title song race.

Perhaps the tie-breaker will be this amazing tribute:

Yea I wouldn't get all hyped up on the moneypenny rumors right now. But since were talking about it ill say this. I dont think MP will be in the field. I think she will be behind the desk where she belongs. Maybe MP gets kidnaped in the movie and Bond goes to save her and she helps Bond fight the bad guys.

I really hope not. I'm sick of all the personal stuff. Leave the MI6 staff out of it.

That DD video was excellent and a far more fitting tribute than the nonsense that was cobbled together for the Oscars.
Anyway, I think some of you are over exciting yourselves with this MP business. Mendes isn't going to rehash what we hid in SF, he's going to move things forward and besides, it's not as though MP had that much screen time let alone being out in the field in SF anyway but we'll see I suppose.

I think we shouldn't read too much into what Naomie Harris said either. Like I said on this thread (I think), she cannot say to the medias that she will spend the next Bond movie looking pretty. If I was cast as say a henchman in Bond 24, I would probably make you (and myself) believe I'm the next Blofeld. And it's not like Moneypenny, M and others have not been on the field, or very near to it, in previous Bond movies, and early on. In YOLT, the whole office moved to Japan with Bond.

That said, I would prefer Moneypenny to remain at her desk. If someone from MI6 should travel to the field to assist Bond, I think it should be Q. Since he seems to think so little about field work, it would make for some interesting scenes.

...and the fact that he's afraid of flying. I don't mind if MP, M and Q relocate temporarily like in YOLT and Moonraker for example, this is fine, but I don't want any of them active in the field. It was fun seeing Q in the field in LTK but I don't want it to continue like this. Although a short scene with Q in the field might be amusing but not for too long. Wishaw and Fiennes play their respective parts really well but I'm not as crazy about Harris. Even if she did put on as good a performance as the other two though, I still wouldn't want her working as a field agent. She's a secretary. Always has been, always should be.

Why would Q have joined Eve in SF in Macau, anyway? He didn't have any gadgets to bring, he already gave Bond everything he needed before sending him off.

    No reason.

How much time do you think passed between the ending of CR and the beginning of QOS? One or two days? Bond was talking to M who was in her London office at the end of CR. He then went to White's house and shot him. QOS began with Bond driving Mr White to Sienna, Italy where M was waiting for him. Do you think that M arrived in Italy before Bond got to White's house at the end of CR or do you reckon she travelled there after Bond had shot Mr White? If Bond informed M of his plans before he went to White's house, maybe that's when he received his new Aston Martin. Maybe that's how he got to White's house.

We had a talk about this a long time ago, talking about how the date on the ticket to Greene's fundraiser in QoS is a good indicator, unless it's just an error on the prop department's fault, though I can never find if the date says '2006' or '2008.' Either way, I feel that the time between Bond calling M and Bond arriving at White's estate in CR was much lengthier than a day or two.

Getting off-topic here, but when Bond finds White's message on Vesper's phone, the date is the 4th of August '06.

The Eco Park invitation is dated 23rd of August '08.

Judging by how many days have passed up to this point in QOS, its PTS is approximately the 19th of August, making the gap 2 years and two weeks. IMO White's capture takes place in August of '06 (finding White two weeks later) and the '08' on the Eco Park invite is just there to keep the film up-to-date.

Why does it have to be assumed that White is captured only days after CR? Perhaps he had some encrypted number that took ages to trace (remember MI6 have a vacancy for a Q at this point - there's only that annoying little Welsh bloke from QOS temporarily filling the role)? Perhaps, due to the quality of his bodyguards, it took a lot of planning to abduct him in such a fashion? Perhaps MI6 had to wait until the new financial year to justify giving Bond another Aston?

There is nothing to indicate one way or other that Bond shooting White in the leg takes place days after his conversation with M or months or years after.

The only indicators are the dates stated above to which you have to conclude it takes place closer to the events of QOS.

I never said Q should have. I'm saying sometimes circumstances would justify a trip abroad to equip Bond, like in TB and YOLT. Not that I'm a fan of the latter, but his presence was I thought done properly.
