Is there actually ANY Bond-fan in here who is more firm and actually really wants Craig to stay???

I do. Infact, I hope he'll do two more after SPECTRE.

But does anybody truly believe BB, MGW or anyone at EON have the slightest plan for what's to happen after Spectre??

We can be glad if they start thinking about it somewhere by the end of 2016.
Pre-production will maybe start at the beginning of 2017.

Another 3 year gap is inevitable. In 2018 Craig is 50 years old, the media will have a field day putting his ago to the frontline. To believe anything else is naiv imo.

If they dare to have some kind of an open ending in Spectre they have gone done the looney bin even more than I thought possible.

Where's the enthusiasm among Bond fans when we need it?? I think every Bond-fan and loyal MI6community member should scream "Danny, please don't leave as Bond after SPECTRE!!!" Everyone!

I love the man, I love the actor Daniel Craig. He did stuff to the Bond franchise that no one could have thought off before 2006. He's even a bloody uncredited creative consultant to the Bond films. He's the 'connery' of our lifetime! And I won't accept it if Craig leaves after SPECTRE!!

I'd love for Craig to come back for Bond 25 and really hope he does but at this stage, I'm not that fussed. When one's been plagued with pointless ambiguity, charm and cuteness goes out the window and certain things just become superfluous. Sod it. If Craig returns for Bond 25 great if not then I really hope EoN cast someone who can bring the same gravitas as Craig in the role and can get at least 5 films out of him.

I agree that Daniel Craig is being plagued with pointless ambiguity (apparently the Sony Leaks have become more damaging...hence the continuous rumours about Idris Elba). But should WE Bond fans therefore not stand up for Mr Craig and support the man more fiercefully??

It really agitates me that so many Bond fans have this lackluster "so be it"-mentality. By jolly....at times I would have liked to live in the 1970's or so. In those days we didn't have Sony Leaks!

My reasoning for being ok with Craig leaving isn't because of just "so be it" - it's because, given SPECTRE is meant to be a conclusion of sorts to the era like the interview says, having Craig for more could ruin the integrity of what these 4 movies have tried to achieve.
  • I find that the biggest bullocks I've heard so far.

Look at the end of QOS. It was basically the conclusion of a two-parter. And it had a very closed ending.....like most Bond films. So with your arguments you could have said that Daniel Craig should have quit the job after QOS.

Fact is, you can always write a new film that ties in with its predecessor. SF has proven that. So why can't Bond 25 do the same??

Why don't we all just enjoy the fact we have a new Bond film on the way, rather than shitting our knickers about DC sticking around. It's not even worth worrying about. SP is 8 weeks away.

I guess I'm reading his comments a bit differently than others. I re-read the article and his quote was "at this moment, no". Since the interview was literally three days after a seven month shoot, I interpret that as meaning... "I just wanna break FOR NOW. I don't want to worry about Bond 25 or anything at the moment. And I would say the same thing. Kinda like he just ate a huge meal and doesn't want anything more to eat. For awhile at least. Later, who knows.

Since the franchise is famous for its actors and a director saying they would not return, to me it simply means "wait and see". I am hopeful that in a year or so and seeing how SP performs his attitude will be more clear. He still may decide no. But only after he's had a bit more time to think about it.

I'm sure when we finish a hard days work, we think similar things to DC. I'm a flight attendant and after 6 days on I don't even want to see a plane again, let alone fly. After the pre production and shooting of Spectre, I'm sure he is just tired. He may not return but I think his answers were a response to that. But I think we have a great three months coming up and we should all try and enjoy it.

The difference is that, and I don't know whether you can tell from the interview or the trailers or not because I certainly can - it doesn't just link back to Skyfall, it brings the 3 previous Craig films full circle, all the way back to Casino Royale, and it provides a resolution to that entire story that underpins Craig's run. If SP wasn't as intricately linked and set up to be a conclusion to the previous 3 films like TDKR was a conclusion to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, then it'd be fine.

The links and overall continuity of the Craig films are much more tightly woven than the classic Bonds, and as I've said before, I'm more than welcome for the Craig run to be for Bond what The Dark Knight trilogy was for Batman - a self-contained 4-film story.

    Another rare case of.....agreeing with @RC7 ;-)

Back to the topic at hand - I know you in essence shouldn't trust IMDB and whatnot but looks like on the SPECTRE boards there's a certain user in the know - blamed_thatcher. First noticed him back from when the theatrical trailer was announced, and he posted (correct!) details about it before its debut, and he knows quite a bit of stuff production wise regarding what was shot where, formats used etc.

    Couple of interesting things:

    1. only the PTS in Mexico was shot with spherical lenses as opposed to anamorphic - and hence, if Mendes still goes ahead with this, it will be the only sequence that will open up to IMAX's 1.9:1 aspect ratio (he says they won't though). Also IMAX cameras probably weren't used because none of the UK film labs can process 70mm IMAX footage.

    2. There will be a final trailer this month (September).

To me it looks like the Mexico PTS is using anamorphic lenses. I have a few screen grabs.
Or perhaps he's referring to a part of the sequence?

Well I think you can tell from the opening shot of the trailer that it's using spherical...and comparing shots of the Mexico sequence to the rest of the film definitely looks like Mexico is not anamorphic.
  • You could be right. I had in my head this image from the TV teaser that looks like oval bokahs in the background indicative of the anamorphic lens. But either way it looks great and I'm excited. Sorry, I don't mean to derail thread with details like this. [img][/img]image.jpg1_zpsknle53jq.jpg

    @Gustav, I re-read the esquire article about him returning for a 5th...

"“I don’t know,” he says. He really doesn’t know? “I really don’t know. Honestly. I’m not trying to be coy. At the moment I can’t even conceive it.”

Would he at least like to do another one? “At this moment, no. I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.”"

I admit that it now reads a lot clearer to my mind that he's not saying no and that the idea of shooting another Bond movie right now isn't a favourable prospect, afterall he'd just finished downloading filming a 7 month production. I get it but still, I'm not going to flip out if he doesn't return. Like I said, I really want him to do a 5th and feel that he will but if he doesn't, adios to him.

The stuff I read indicated that they are shooting with both digital and 35mm, and any IMAX equipment being used for shooting is for their digital camera, not a film one, so processing is not an issue. I think I remember Alexa 65 being mentioned for this, so maybe somebody saw '65' and jumped to an incorrect Nolanesque conclusion.

Damn, I missed the part where he talks about not having an interest in doing B25. I now fear that he has already made up his mind, but he wants to keep the focus on SP instead of having a new Bond actor, so he isn't going to announce it yet. What a shame.

As that IMDB guy says - the Alexa 65 (there IS an IMAX version of the Alexa 65 but it's not heing used here - it will be used in Captain America Civil War and Avengers Infinity War) digital shooting is just for some of the low light night-set London exteriors. Rest is shot on 35mm. No IMAX equipment is being used for this.

However per the Sony leaks the original intention was to shoot 3 sequences with 70mm IMAX cameras, which Mendes decided to back out of presumably due to lack of UK 70mm IMAX processing labs. They then decided to shoot these on 35mm but with spherical instead and in the end, they only shot the opening sequence that way. The Alexa doesn't come into this really.

Yea he just finished filming this film. He is obviously burned out. Give him some time to recover and let's see how this film does. If it does better then skyfall financially and its critically received well then I'm sure he will do Bond 25

Nothing is set in stone, as Mendes was equally burnt out and done with the series after SF, and look what happened with that.

Off topic, but does anyone know whether there will be some sort of live stream of the premiere?

By the way the top trending twitter topic right now is Anthony Horowitz describing Idris Elba as being "too street" to play the role of Bond.

No doubt, absolutely. Hell, I won't be surprised if they stream the RAH red carpet and film intro from Mendes and co to the UK opening night shows. Maybe that's the "special" thing Odeon are doing with their opening night shows.

Loving Craig's look in the Omega ad, but still think that strap is wrong with a suit personally.

The still reminds me so much of North by Northwest for some reason...could be Seydoux' top evoking Marie Saint

I'm still a bit sad by the revealing Esquire article :-(. I need Daniel Craig. And I can not envision a different actor for the role right now. Look, I really understand why EON made Brosnan to quit the role after DAD. But this is the other way around. Let's hope Barbara and Michael tie Daniel to a chair and torture him with a rope if he threatens to leave after "SPECTRE" ;-).

Anyway @Marketto007, I really love the new production still. It's nice to see some "Quantum Of Solace"-references as well. As Sam Mendes already said, it combines the 'hot' with the 'cold' from a cinematographical point of view. And here I am reminded of Camille and 007 walking through the Atacama Desert in Chile :-).

This is probably my favourite look so far from Seydoux. Effortlessly chic.

I like Idris as much as the next man, but this whole thing is getting tedious. Anyone who thinks he wouldn't make a great Bond is labelled 'racist'. It's impossible to have a genuine discussion.

I, again, fully agree with you. IMO this has nothing to do with racism. This has everything to do with the current exponentially growing assertiveness of the social-media-generation. Even here in The Netherlands our biggest tradition is suddenly being seriously questioned....that of "Sinterklaas" (the official predecessor to Santa Clause). Because Black Piet is a clear sign of racism. Well, no one is wondering why Sinterklaas wasn't questioned during the 1930's when in the deep south of the USA living people were hanged on trees due to their skin color. Well, Sinterklaas isn't doing that as of 2015 no? Nor is Idris Elba being threatened by the KuKluxKlan.

Again, in this social-media-era we have become to assertive at times. On Facebook we all act like little dictators with no trace of empathy or nuance. We really loose perspective on these things. We don't ask ourselves anymore what's the difference between the real deadly consequences of racism and our own mental loss of resilience when we're being bullied. I hope....the future brings back at least a tiny bit of social cohesion...

Craig has so many outfits in this movie; I'm really liking it.

Why is Craig taking heat RE: Elba?

Honestly, people really should think and then think again before commenting on matters, especially when trying to promote a product.

Horowitz calling Elba, too Street was a poor choice of words. Was he being casually racist? I don't know but he did follow up his comment by suggesting Adrian Lester as Bond who btw is a black actor. Furthermore, David Oyelowo is voicing Bond for the audio version of his book.

I don't know what Horowitz was thinking when he knows such comments are going to have people riled up. People jumped all over Roger Moore for what he said about Elba and iirc it wasn't anywhere near as stirring as what Horowitz said. The age of social media is brutal. Serious thought needs to be applied unless Horowitz can stand by what he said and make everyone else look crazy for overreacting.
