    Three films in a row is a record for Tanner, isn't it? That's good to see, but let's hope he's not the next in the line of MI6 members getting a disproportionate amount of the spotlight.

    Yes it will be a record,IIRC he has only appeared in TMWTGG (1), FYEO (1) and GE,TWINE (2)...

    I've said it before and I'll repeat--I really would like to see Miccoli cast an actor to play Felix just as Fleming described him: tall, lean, hawk-faced and with a mop of sandy blonde hair. Lee Van Cleef would have been perfect back in the 60s. Don't know if there's any actor out there like that today.

    If Wright is available, they should cast him again. One of the problems with Leiter is that there have been far too many actors to portray him. It would be much better if one actor played Leiter in the reboot, if that's possible.

    I agree,im not a great fan of Wright in most things,except maybe Source Code.

    It's a difficult one to chose really : continuity or replacement.

    Seriously when you consider the likes of Bond lackeys like Cec Linder and Norman Burton playing Leiter and we are criticising Wright, I think he plays it relaxed and not comatose, EON are lucky to have such an actor playing the role.

    Hopefully he'll be back and Mendes will utilise him better, he certainly made better use of Kinnear, I think he's fine and no I can't even remember Salmon in the Brosnan error.

    Agreed, and he has a great chemistry with Craig. Almost all of the other actors to portray him were pretty forgettable.

    Regarding McConaughey, I don't think he has a hard enough edge for Fleming's Leiter. Jack Lord had it. Van Cleef sure had it. But I'm not sure there are any of those type out there today. Then again, I'm not an expert on today's actors.

    I think McConaughey has it, from what I remember of him, but he would be a bit old to succeed Jeffrey Wright. I do want a bit of continuity with Bill Tanner, Felix Leiter, Moneypenny, Q and M.

    I'm personally very fond of Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and I hope he returns to the character. Regarding Tanner, although he departs a bit from the books I have no problem with that. I'm glad Rory Kinnear is back as Tanner because he's already, as they say where I come from, part of the furniture ;)

    I'd like to see Jon Hamm as Felix, but I'm a big fan of Jeffrey as well.

    Jon Hamm would make a great Bond, Rory is doing well at Tanner...I sure hope someone can write a good, credible story this time without killing off all the women...a theme song in a MAJOR key would be nice as well...Cinematography is great...Sound is now great...Opening credits were very good...score very well done indeed...Bond 24 needs a better story for these "great actors" to flesh out. Get to it...(and "put your back into it, eh?")

    Since Logan is writing Bond 24 and 25, I wonder if the main villain won't be in both films. It would make sense if they brought back Blofeld.

    I'd much rather and be happier if Newman didn't return but this just throws combinations to the gut, followed by a clean left hook to the chin. Not good at all.

    Deakins was one of the main reasons I wanted Mendes back. I really hope this isn't true.

    I was never convinced Deakins would, so I can't see this as film-shattering news. We're still in good shape, people!

    Still, thanks for posting this @doubleoego. If this is true, I'd rather find it now than have to wait until the film is properly announced.

    As for who could replace him, I'm not sure. I always thought Point Break had really good cinematography. Maybe get whoever did that if he/she is still working? EDIT: Scratch that, he died in 2011.

    If anything, I think the lack of real locations held Deakins back a little. He could have given more had he shot the right film. If only it was Bond 24! :(

    I never thought Deakins would come back. In interviews when SF came out he seemed very ambivalent about returning. In fact I'm surprised he even did SF, the guy doesn't do big tentpole films and I think SF was just an experiment for him. I don't think he felt very comfortable in the world of digital effects and second-unit directors etc.

    But there are plenty of other Roger Deakins films out there to watch where his photography is must as immaculate, it's just a shame he won't do another Bond.

    My suggestions for his replacement:

    Emmanuel Lubezki
    Robert Richardson
    Robert Elswitt (he's already done TND)
    Bruno Delbonnel
    Seamus McGarvey (based off his work with Joe Wright, he also did 'Avengers' which imo was terribly photographed)
    Jeff Cronenweth
    Barry Ackroyd

    Aside from the late Conrad Hall and Deakins, the only other DP that Mendes has used is Ellen Kuras. But I doubt she'll do a big-budget film nor do I think she's up to the job. One thing is for certain we are going to get a big prestige name cinematographer so while Deakins departure is sad the possibilities on the horizon are exciting.

    Well if Deakins isn't coming back, bring back Phil Meheux. The cinematography in Casino Royale was stunning.
