Just a thought, but it was 50 years since DN had premiere this year.
But I agree, it's a bit stupid because the actual filmseries celebrates 51 years this year.
They are doing it now because of the massive success that SkyFall has become. And they are not blind to it. Though I agree with you both that it would have been more accurate last year, in my opinion this has more to do with SF's impact than anything else. And in that way I understand it and appreciate it.
Besides, regardless of the timing of it, more people are talking about Bond now post-SkyFall than six months ago. This is just the Academy's way of zeroing in on that.
Come on Hollywood, surprise us!

I would pay large sums of money to see Bassey, Jones, and any remaining living title song performers get together and do a huge group piece. Don't know how it'd turn out, but I'd pay to see it.
I'd love a LOT more but I do not foresee that happening. Wish I'd seen the BAFTA tribute; is it available on youtube or is there a dvd compilation I could buy? Just curious.
