Thanks Saunders. 95% of the cover images are scans of my own copies, hence any bias towards Fleming and the earlier editions.

I have a bunch of Gardner paperbacks to scan plus I need to incorporate the Penguin editions, at least the ones I like. :) I also need to research the American Jove paperbacks that I got a glimpse of on the 2008 Royal Mail stamps.

I will check out Bond Bound. Sounds interesting.

Just went browsing around the MI6 site and discovered they have a perfectly good Bond book section. I'll really have to up my game!

It's been a while since I've updated the list and with the 50 year anniversary a fair few new Bond related books have been published. As before I've only listed the books that I actually own so feel free to add any that I've missed as it would be great for the forum to have a complete listing (and plus it would help me with my own 'must have' wish list!).

The wanderer returns with a great two for one! Great update and welcome along @saunders.

    :)
  • 4EverBonded the short story collection Octopussy/The Living Daylights was published after The Man With The Golden Gun but the stories should be read before OHMSS. Also some Bond time lines state that The Spy Who Love me and James Bond in New York are set in the middle more or less of OHMSS.
  • Awesome Saunders!

Favorite Gardner and Benson novels for the uninitiated?

I recently read James Bond And Philosophy: Questions Are Forever (published 2006) which is one of the many listings in Saunder's excellent bibliography above
I highly recommend this book. Bond is analyzed by learned Philosophy professors. There are about 15 essays on a whole range of Bond related topics. The writers all possess top notch Bond IQ - both Fleming and films.
The most interesting read I found, was an awesome essay justifying Bond's License to Kill, in terms of it's legitimacy within the context of a free and democratic society. John Locke's Inalienable Rights of Man is referenced heavily. Locke's philosophy btw, also influenced much of the thinking of the framers of the U.S. constitution.
It's a real interesting book. All of the essays will greatly enhance your understanding of Bond. These highly educated writers don't dumb anything down either, but they do write with a sense of humour and with the lay-person in mind as well.
    Great reading!

Can anyone rate the Ian Fleming biographies?

The Letters Of Ann fleming/Mark amory
    Peter Fleming/Hart-Davis
    Ian Fleming/Andrew Lycett
The Life Of Ian Fleming/John Pearson
The spy who Came In With The Gold/Henry A. Zeiger

17F The life Of Ian Fleming/Donald McCormick
You Only Live Once, Memories Of Ian Fleming/Iver Bryce
    Ian Fleming's Secret war/Craig Cabell

Also, who has read the little-known Ivor Bryce one (his Vermont connection/friend)?

I just received Pearson's bio of Fleming and Amis' James Bond Dossier (hard to find!) Both are excellent, engrossing reads.

    @007InVT hope this helps!

The Letters Of Ann fleming/Mark amory/ Very interesting read encompassing far more than just a reflection on Ian and his novels, though personally I find Ann so unlikeable that maybe her caustic wit is somewhat lost on me.
Peter Fleming/Hart-Davis/Haven't got round to reading it yet (holiday read project) but judging by the small collection of Black and white photographs it will have a fair amount on his dealings with both Ian and his legacy before and after his death
Ian Fleming/Andrew Lycett/Excellent informative read, a must have for every Bond enthusiast.
The Life Of Ian Fleming/John Pearson/Good read but pales in comparison with Lycett's later more in depth biog.
The spy who Came In With The Gold/Henry A. Zeiger /Ian Fleming The Man With The Golden Pen/Richard Cant/ 60's versions of the cut and paste biographies, ok for an overview but there are far more comprehensive and accurate biographies to read.
17F The life Of Ian Fleming/Donald McCormick/ Sorry haven't read this one yet either.
You Only Live Once, Memories Of Ian Fleming/Iver Bryce Ian's great friend writes a wonderful book on their friendship, though it's more about Iver than Ian he's such a likeable character that you find yourself thoroughly engrossed. Actually it's worth getting a copy solely to see the photo of Iver (looking completely wasted) wrapped in a leopard skin snuggling with a live leopard...I doubt if there has ever been such a perfect image captured of the utter stupidity of the upper class gentry.
Ian Fleming's Secret war/Craig Cabell/This author doesn't seem to have much more to add to Fleming's war career than is in the Lycett biog and no amount of repeating the same information and large typeface can hide the fact that this book is mainly filler, for the completest only!

    Thanks @Saunders - great précis.

I'll def get Lycett's at some point but Bryce's has been on my wishlist for some time because of the Vermont connection, where he lived. And it sounds like it's worth it for that picture alone. It's only available 2nd hand, at quite a price I might add, on Ebay etc.

You're more than welcome to use this thread for your website link @Chevron, what a really great website you've created. I'd love to see some of the hardback designs incorporated into it, especially the rare Christopher Wood hardback editions, and maybe expand it to include foreign editions, as some of their cover artwork is interesting to say the least!
Are you aware of the book 'Bond Bound' by Ian Fleming publications? It had a very small print run and was written for the Fleming estate to commemorate Ian Fleming's centenary. It's full of great colour prints of many of the covers from all over the world, and definatley worth a look.
Anyway keep up the great work!

I desperately want to get hold of 'Bond Bound'. It's hard-to-find and expensive.

Thanks for adding these to the bibliography! My father had copies of Loxfinger and Matzohball in his massive paperback library. I actually read them, too: Agent Oy-Oy-Seven! I wish I had them now - damn! I just saw that they're all in eBook format at Smashwords, where my own novels are also for sale (pardon the plug)!
