**James Bond’s Guitar Hits Auction Block**
The guitar used to twang one of the most popular songs in history goes on auction Saturday, February 2 for $150,000 U.S. and the winner will meet its guitarist in person and cruise the Caribbean in a manner worthy of OO7 himself. The most famous guitar riff… over half the world has heard the distinctive beats of The James Bond Signature Theme as laid down by Vic Flick on his magnificent Clifford Essex Paragon De Luxe Guitar. The Bond theme celebrated its 50th Anniversary on July 27, 2012 as over a billion people listened to Flick’s guitar backing Daniel Craig and HRH Queen Elizabeth II as they leapt from a helicopter to grandly open the XXX Summer Olympiad in London, England.
Vic Flick’s cello-bodied guitar was used in 1962 to record the theme for Dr. No, one of the most covered songs in music history. Flick, anchor and band conductor for The John Barry Seven and many of Barry’s five-time Oscar-winning soundtracks and pop music hits, played on a total of eight Bond films. The winner of the eBay auction receives the world’s most famous guitar and a special day with Mr. and Mrs. Flick and the vehicles of Bond, plus airfare and a cabin for two aboard the brand new Dream-class Carnival Breeze to join OOSailin, a tour hosted by espionage experts of James Bond and spy locations in Jamaica and The Bahamas in April 2013 celebrating the 60th Anniversary of April 1953’s publication of Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel, Casino Royale. James Bond expert Matt Sherman said, “This is a fan dream come true for a bidder to own the sound of the world’s greatest secret agent. The guitar will only increase in value over the next 50 years of James Bond books and films.”
Flick was paid the princely sum of seven pounds ten shillings for his title tune efforts (not a lot by today’s standards but okay for a working musician in London in 1962) on Dr. No. His guitar, famously rumored to have been tossed aside after anchoring a perfect sound for OO7, remained in Flick’s playing collection, recording numerous other tracks and touring worldwide, and has been exhibited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum and traveled on tour with The National Guitar Museum.
One of the few professional guitarists of his day who could read and orchestrate music, Flick was in constant demand during the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s before leaving swinging London for homes in Santa Monica and Las Vegas. Tom Jones, Nancy Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Cliff Richard, Eric Clapton, Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand, Sammy Davis, Jr., Engelbert Humperdinck, Jimmy Page and John McLaughlin are some of the many musical greats backed in recording studios by Vic Flick.
Flick played on top Beatles recordings and was handpicked as Paul McCartney’s all-time favorite guitarist to record McCartney’s epic “Thrillington” album. Beatles producer, Sir George Martin, personally requested Flick to perform for the film A Hard Day’s Night. Flick also played on many hit action and adventure films including The Pink Panther, The Ipcress File, Midnight Cowboy and more, besides scoring numerous TV programs, commercials and feature films.
