Here we are at a site that celebrates a character that frequently demonstrates a lack of respect for Authority, but what about YOU?
Do you follow rules? Speed limits?
Do you genuinely respect people in positions of Authority (your boss, the police, your country's leader)?
Do you feel people in Authority got there because they deserved to based on their knowledge, experience & intelligence?

Speed Limits- I've got quite a few points on my licence so I guess not.

My boss- More of a mate than anything else.

The police- Depends. I suppose overall I respect them.

My countrys leader- Me respect him? Haha, not a chance.

I follow the rules I agree with but have no respect for authority per se. Respect is earned and most politicians are terrible human beings that deserve none. Speed limits? I drive as fast as the conditions allow. Do I drive at the same number as the little numbers of the signs? Nope. Unless there's a car with high visibility stripes and blue lights in the vicinity....

Personally, I am somewhat of an elitist (hopefully not in a bad way); I was a professional driver in Manhattan for five years, so IMO at least half the people on the road lacking basic safety skills & general proficiency account for the speed limits designed to play to the lowest common denominator... so, I respect the limits at my discretion, as also stated above.
I show the utmost respect to police that do the same for me, yet I've encountered many "I AM the Law" types that deserve none at all (thankfully, they seem to be in the minority...).
My leader... sort of.. kind of... but he's a lying idiot like the rest of politicians at the end of the day, not closing Gitmo & continuing drone strikes despite his warm & fuzzy public image (and I voted for him twice).
And doctors? Surgeons with skills, yes of course, but general practitioners tend to know less concerning the biomechanics of simple chronic conditions than I do, so I take their 'authority' with a huge chunk of salt.
So basically, I must say that I have some Authority Issues. Par for the course being a Bond fan, I conjure.
    B-)

On the whole, yes I like to think I do. Hopefully it will help get me somewhere in life.

Does getting somewhere include respecting the speed limits? Oh, go ahead and admit that you are a law-breaking bad guy!!

I only break the speed limits when the fast lane is empty. It's there for people like me, and the right lane is there for people who follow the law.

This is what annoys me most about arbitrary limits. So many people can be a liability at 30mph around town yet the police concentrate on clear stretches of A road where you can be pulled over for 10mph above the limit despite presenting no risk at all. But it's easier to prove someone is breaking the speed limit than to prove they're driving without due care and attention, so the police concentrate on the former as the conviction rate is far higher and involves less paperwork (a friend of mine is a traffic cop so I know the behind the scenes thinking....he speeds when it's safe too).

I'm the first to admit I break speed limits and I love driving, but I'd pump up my ego and point out I passed the IAM test years ago (despite disagreeing with half of what they teach, especially push-pull steering) and also have 20 years experience of track and rally driving at clubman level. I'd also argue that my car is safer at 80mph than most people's cars are at 60mph. It can certainly stop a hell of a lot faster than the average shopping trolley, and generates grip that most non petrolheads couldn't even comprehend. Most importantly, I'm paying attention to the road all the time, not paying attention to my phone/ipod/make up/ iPad/children etc.

I respect laws and regulations I understand. Others, ones that make no sense to me, I don't mind breaking. Besides, rules are made to be broken.
