One of the major goals of Apollo 12 was to demonstrate a pinpoint landing – unlike Apollo 11. To do this they aimed for the place where an earlier unmanned craft – Surveyor 3 – had landed two years earlier. Looking for a pattern of five small craters that formed a “snowman” formation, you’ll note the excitement in Conrad’s voice as he spots their intended landing location -” Right down the middle of the road!”
I vividly remember the Viking landing in 1976, or rather the pictures therefrom, as the most exciting event of the year.

I'm glad there's still some rationality in the world. ;-)
Similarly, we are now only 7 years away from the year the film Children of Men is set in. 2027 was 21 years into the future when this film was released.
We are now exactly as far away from 1984 as when the book came out.
