Tech question: What will a Bond movie be like in 2162?

What we used to and in many instances continue to think of as 'gadgets' will be so ridiculously commonplace by Bond's two-hundredth that I fear only science fiction writers of today could even guess what a Bond film of 2162 would actually entail... okay, no flying civilian cars (at least I don't THINK so), but will Bond be infiltrating & shooting up illegal clone factories run by peeps wanting to replace world leaders? Blowing up 6th-world bio-dirty fusion reactors intended to remove our solar shield and roast equatorial regions for profit? Destroying Mariana Trench deep sea "Godzilla Project" facilities?

The mind reels...
What do you think?

Thank you, thank you, but I'll have to wait for the official presentation, I'm afraid!

Seriously though, Shakespeare endures, what makes you think present day versions of super-popular franchises like James Bond wouldn't?

Haha, good to see that you took in stride.

Anyway, Bond won't take that long. I guess. But we can suppose that Bond 142 will be so much like 'I, Robot'. With a white Bond, of course.

It's not easy to guess what things will be like in 150 years time, and I'm sure you'll get more serious responses to this thread if you change it to 'What will a Bond movie be like in 2062?' Besides, humans could've moved on from Earth and their past cultures, or simply disappeared from existence altogether. I'd like to think Bond films would still be around- except we'd have the opportunity to play the role of Bond in artificial environments.

In 2062 however, plots may involve real-world technology such as terraforming, time travel etc. Basically, many of the things we see in sci-fi films today will be commonplace in 2062. A lot can happen in fifty years. Think back to 1962. The exponential growth of technology should tell us anything is likely.

How did I know SOMEONE was gonna go all Star Trek on this thread? :))

    I was staying Earth-based here...

But I suppose this turning to a funny thread was always a severe possibility.

So that's why @QBranch had mentioned about 'For Your Third Eyes Only'... :-?

Okay, now I am peeing my kilt.

I *did* mean this to be a serious thread, BTW.

Seriously- it does raise questions. In, lets say 50 years, will technology be so advanced that they won't even feel like Bond movies anymore? Will Bond have a jetpack on him at all times since it fits in his pocket? Will the Aston Martin fly now?

I actually brought this notion up once on one of those 'should Bond be a period piece' threads. If movies are being made continuously from 1962-21XX then kids in the future will have trouble looking back at the original movies because they'd feel like 'old westerns' by comparison. There will come a point I think when the Bond movies do indeed become period pieces-- just so they sill feel like Bond movies instead of, I don't know.... Batman Beyond (poor example but I'm sure you know what I mean :) )

Also, don't forget about the fact that in 50 years they'll need to remake all of Bond's history to make it fit in the times. 'Bond has grown up in 2036, his fathers died after an rappel accident in Venus, blah blah blah'.

Funny, now that I think on it, isn't Blade Runner a future Bond story in a way?

The funny thing is, that's actually happened in one of the videogames.

That just gave me a good idea for a *distant future* Bond film. How about something to do with the villain having his DNA altered to disguise himself as someone else oh wait, I forgot...

LOL, that and The Galaxy Is Not Enough are my two favourites!! :))

Maybe... Bond will have to infiltrate a Matrix-like cyberworld that serves as a vacation existence for wealthy off-world asteroid workers to thwart some sort of interplanetary coup...!

By 2162, there will be tens if not hundreds of millions of people on the planet. I hate to be a party crusher but I think film will be the last thing on people's minds then. ;-)

By then we will have evolved past the need for overpopulation- we will live in relative peace and the main source of confrontation will be cathartically fictitious. Bond will thrive.
    IMO.
