    Excellent. Thanks for the report!

I have seen a few DC films. He tends to fare better when avoiding Hollywood or doing big budget films.

    Good
    - Layer Cake
    - Road to Perdition
    - Knives Out
    - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
    - Logan Lucky
    - The Adventures of Tin Tin
    - Munich
    - Defiance

    Meh
    - Cowboys and Aliens
    - Lara Croft Tomb Raider
    - The Golden Compass

I didn't know it was set in Greece: that's fun. I guess it's going for another nod towards the Agatha Christie, this time towards those 'Death on the Nile/Evil Under The Sun' movies :)

It's a tough life being a movie star!

Isn't the next Indiana Jones also shooting, in part, in Greece?

It will be a Netflix film? That is a surprise, that will be massive. I don't quite understand how it's got shooting dates if there's no deal yet though?

I enjoyed Knives Out but does it really need a sequel, let alone a third film. Craig's character wasn't that good. I prefer Hetty Wainthropp.

I just hope Daniel tries a Southern accent in the sequel. ;)
  • I can't wait to see what they come up with! It looks like it'll be a different vibe with the summertime-Greece setting and a whole new set of characters, save for Blanc.

I know this is beating a dead horse, but it is pretty wild that the sequel to a film they were only able to shoot because of the delay in production for NTTD after Boyle left will have probably wrapped principal photography by the time NTTD is released.

Yes it is interesting, not least because I'd say he wasn't really even the lead character in KO. They could really go anywhere, which is fun.

Remember the tabloid rumors about Craig being offered $100m for two more Bond films after Spectre?
Well, that's what he will actually make from the two Knives Out sequels.

Ridiculous money. No wonder he doesn't do British films anymore.

Well, he wouldn't usually make that much money in American films either.

What happened is that he was instrumental into making the original film for a low budget, even if it was an ensemble cast. That's because he was committed to it (and because of the script and the good old fashioned setting) that they were able to find so many name actors willing to work for a relatively small fee and spend four or five weeks opposite him. He isn't credited as a producer, but he definitely received points on the gross, plus a deal that apparently granted him equal money with director Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman for any sequel.
Knives Out way over performed at the box office, hence the mega deal for the sequels.

Don't forget that Danny de Vito made a lot of money by being a producer on Pulp Fiction, that Demi Moore scored many millions for producing Austin Powers and its sequels (probably more than what she made as an actor) and so did Tom Hanks with My Big Fat Greek Wedding, all sleeper hits (the first Austin Powers flopped in theaters but got a second life on home video). Similarly, they struck gold with Knives Out, which means that Craig can commend a heavy sum of money for the sequels, while he would never get as much for a regular blockbuster. He was lucky, or he had a good hunch, for Knives Out. It doesn't happen often for actors.

Not to sideline this too much away from Daniel, but I recently saw a short part of an interview with Ram Bergman where he explained how they cast the first film. Basically, instead of trying to get actors nailed down for the project 12 or 18 months in advance and then have to contend with their shifting schedule, they basically pre-produced the thing, waited for a window for Daniel to open up (which unexpectedly happened due to the NTTD delay after Boyle left) and then went to the actors they wanted and more or less asked if they wanted to shoot a fun little thriller in New England in about six weeks. And most of the actors they offered roles said yes, because they didn't have to gamble on whether they where going to get a better offer for that timframe or didn't know when exactly their window for Marvel film #25 was.
I guess that is all a bit different for this one, but I thought it really underscored how this was more or less just a "one for us" situation, where they just did something they thought would be fun and it became an Oscar nominated blockbuster.

Interesting stuff, thanks. I did think it was quite strange that that film managed to get arguably a better cast than the similar Death On The Nile did.

Great news. I'm looking forward to these sequels, although I do think them being on Netflix somewhat cheapns the experience.
Dave is a great actor and has good chemistry with Daniel

I guess this might make up for Bond vs Hinx not happening in NTTD.

Seems that it's certainly lining up to be. I just hope the spotlight is evenly distributed. Some of the characters in the first were damn intriguing to me but didn't get much screentime to work with.

Latest cast addition: Janelle Monáe. Well, she's mostly known for being a singer, but she was also in Moonlight (alongside Naomie Harris), Hidden Figures, Welcome to Marwen and Antebellum (co-starring Jack Huston, one of the many names mentioned for the next Bond).

I think they will be at the cinema too, is that right? Maybe simultaneous, I'm not sure.

This cast is really heating up now. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Margot Robbie or Rosamund Pike cast. I didn't expect an sequels to Knives Out but the cast sounds great

As production is supposed to start in Greece next month, they may have nearly completed the main casting, and they're just dropping the names by name every two or three days to generate more buzz than a single big announcement.
