These are just coincidences, rather than easter eggs, but here they are.
– A poster for a movie starring Pedro Armendariz is seen in the streets at night
– As it's based on the life of William Burroughs, there's an evocation of the William Tell stunt, in which he aimed for the glass of whisky on the head of his wife and missed, something that may reminisce you of a scene from Skyfall.
Regarding Oscars, the project was always a long shot. But it's very interesting to see that both Peter Finch and Colin Firth won their Oscar (for Network and A King's Speech) a few years after playing a gay character in Sunday Bloody Sunday and A Single Man.
