That's the title and the cover? "Lack of imagination" doesn't begin to describe it.
I thought you were talking about another novel besides Boyd's, and am surprised that this is it.
Anyway, we have tons of threads on Boyd and the novel in general:

Of course, not. "That" is what will be released on september...
Hated the execution of course but the idea was brilliant enough.
As for The New Mission (what i will be calling it till the actual title is released just as an FYI) I will check it out the last bond book that was new that i loved was The Man with the Red Tattoo (I loved Benson so sue me) Devil May Care was fine till bond started smoking opium (first time I ever threw a book across the room out of sheer disgust) Carte Blanche I wanted to love the idea was so freaking cool I loved Casino Royale (the film) taking that concept to the literary bond would be amazing..... man was I let down so I will of course buy and read The New Mission but if it's like the last 2 sigh.....
I read DMC before I had read a single word of Fleming's Bond, and even I thought that was just out of place.
Good god man why?
Did Faulks read a single Bond novel or watch a Single Bond film the character is vehmently against illegal drugs!
And I commited I suppose a graver sin then most here I read the Benson novels first THEN Fleming then Amis then Faulks then some of Gardner (though in retrospect I think I read Licence Renewed before Fleming but read other Gardner after Faulks) then Deaver I will eventually finish Gardner's take on Bond and of Course I will read Boyd and Yes I know I have Wood Higson and the 4 Brosnan Novelizations to read and at some point will read them.
Just do yourseleves a favour boys and dont read Faulks at all. Absolute travesty of a Bond book.
I read most of Gardner before I ever read any of Fleming. The only two Gardner's I didn't have before I read Casino Royale were Never Send Flowers and GoldenEye.
I am sure that like most fans I just wanted to get Bond anyway I could, from any which direction it may have come.
I was a lot like that. I had been watching the movies on TV and DVD for so many years, I wanted to experience the literary Bond at some point. The only two places I didn't want to start at were: 1) James Bond Jr and 2) John Pearson's biography. Honestly, because they were the most modern at the time I started buying the books, I wanted to start with Benson, and then gradually move backward.
no I know glad he never did a sequel
I really do prefer Bond in the modern time period both literary and film wise (and video game wise though that seems DOA at the moment) that said everyone here seems hyped for The New Mission so I will of course check it out
Oh and on the topic of fleming I own all the Fleming novels and the 3 short story compendiums.... I know i had all the stories in Quantum of Solace but the artwork was so pretty I just had to buy it :D
Regardless of how many other threads there are on the subject, they are irrelevant about what I want to discuss. I am asking for readers' opinions on the time that the book is set. It is set in the 60's, and I prefer modern settings. That's what I want to discuss.
Though I don't mind the story being in the 60's either. The time period is certainly interesting and provides more than enough material. We also get to see the character in his original time period. I feel the weakness in going back to the past, however, is the inevitable immediate comparison to Fleming. I feel like modern Bond would have a few degrees of separation, and maybe fans would give the author a little leeway with certain things.,
And you are sure that this is not being discussed in any of these threads??
I personaly find the amount of threads concerning a new book where only little information is known about a sign that the moderators are not paying attention, one big thread would be enough imho.
