French topic (DVD/BR of SF to start with)

edited February 2013 in General Discussion Posts: 2,015
Two pieces of news/trivia that I could not put in another thread. I'll add other French centric info here in the months to come.

1) The release of SF DVD/BR is in the next few days here. And the first short TV ad has been broadcast, it's only a few seconds long, but well, it's quite "in your face" : "Skyfall, the best James Bond of all time" ("Skyfall, le meilleur James Bond de tout les temps"). I don't know about the English words, but in French it does sound a bit pompous. What's even weirder, is that we usually see TV ads more for Direct-To-Video material rather than for blockbusters, and they also use quite a lot of superlatives and such an "in your face" approach !

2) I've just heard "New Digs" on TV almost in its entirety ! It was being used during a true crime TV documentary, when the embedded journalist and the cops follow a suspect. I don't know if it's a tribute to the fact it is a suspenseful track, or if it means it's not "Bond enough" so it can be used a bit everywhere :)

On the same radio show (Michel Drucker, Europe 1) in which Carole Bouquet spilled the beans about FYEO's shot, there was another tidbit of info I never heard of.

It was said by Jane Birkin, who was married to John Barry between '65 and '68. She said Barry proposed a Bond theme to Francoise Hardy, who refused to do it. She didn't say which one, but from the timing, it looks like YOLT, who went to another singer who was less a "strong voice" than the previous singers... I even remember reading much tweaking was done in studio to help Nancy Sinatra reaching these notes. Francoise Hardy sings so softly it would have been interesting to see what Barry aimed for.
  • Came across this, not bad at all (semi-pro CR trailer parody)

  • The most visible ad of the center of Paris is OMEGA - 007 again. My smartphone could not take a good picture, but that's definitely a DB5 :

Does it just look back over the films so far @Suivez_ce_parachute?

From what I have seen, yes it does.

BTW, how can one do a french topic without mentioning "Les Guignols" ? Here's François Hollande and his government's version of Skyfall :

Super late answer : It's about the zeitgeist and historical events at the time of each book and movie, and how it could have influenced them etc (I don't have the magazine to tell more).

Gerard, I never watch the Guignols, like 64 millions' other French :)

Thanks for the reply. At least it sounds far more informative than the usual spill we're always given.
