Some I saw retrospectively at the London Film Theatre on the Southbank - FRWL, YOLT, DAF and LALD - but that venue never really feels like a cinema to me, it's a bit stagey, like the local suburban theatre putting on a showing.

Dr No I saw in the early 80s, aged 11, at the London Palladium, or Pavillion, near Picadilly Circus. Terrific, a bit of a fleapit, but a real cinema. They had a series of Bond on there, but that was the only one I saw, a double bill with Moonraker.

TMWTGG comes closest, I saw it on a shoddy old film at the Cub Scout hut in 1980, got a good reception. Not exactly a cinema experience though.

OHMSS I saw at the BFI Imax, terrific stuff. TB I saw at the Empire Leicester Square a few years ago, awful print however, and the film rankled with me, all the plotholes showed up! Plus ca change.

So I guess that leaves the 67 Casino Royale.

Rather than list the ones I haven't, it's quick if I list the ones I have:

    - Dr No (Albert Cubby Broccoli centenary release)
    - FRWL (see above)
    - GF (see above)
    - OHMSS (see above)
    - DAD
    - CR
    - QoS
    - SF (IMAX and regular 35mm)

I haven't seen any of the first Connery ones in a theatre; no retrospective showings near me in the states and now that I am overseas in Asia, not likely any time soon. But I hope to some day. So for me, Dr. No through YOLT; and also OHMSS - those were not in a theatre.

I do thoroughly enjoy and vastly prefer seeing a film, especially a Bond film, in a theatre. It is a far more fully encompassing, saturating, and satisfying experience. And especially the sound.

I've seen every one of them first on the big screen starting with Thunderball in 1968 when I was about 7. I don't know the experience of seeing any Bond film on TV or other home mediums for my first viewing. Hopefully at 51, I'll get to see lots more before it's my time :)

I feel bad for the kids here that never saw Connery in the theatre.

FRWL to DAF. I saw LaLD when I was ten and each of the following. Last year DN was shown for one night only and my dad and I caught it. I would love to see them all once more.

Me too. There is no greater Bond experience than the first 5 in all their glory IMHO. BUT, the experience can still be had if one is lucky enough. I was lucky enough last summer to see GF for the 4th or 5th time in it's original 35mm pristine form like when I was a wide eyed kid. And my boy got to see it too. It was at a college movie house about an hour and 15 minutes away in Bethlehem PA. where coincidentally is where my father (2nd generation) passed away. Believe me when I say he was with us that day. Plus we had Dr. No on Bond Day not far from my home. They had a Bond classic dating from Dr. No to GE playing every Monday, hopefully it did well for them and next summer they'll do it again :)

Neither Dalton film was shown, sadly.

I'll tell ya though, that jet in Goldfinger looks so phoney on the big screen!
    35mm projection..... I miss it.

True, I love projection cinema and the scratches, lines and holes the print has and it flashing on screen. All part of the experience, and something I miss that you don't get anymore.
