For those outside the UK, this is Alan Partridge...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Partridge

A range of episodes reference his love of Bond, particularly the Roger incarnation. See below for just one example...

Now, this picture has just been released as the first still from his new movie...

69434.jpg

Note the cabinet to the left. DB5, Range Rover, and similar if slightly inaccurate LALD speedboat. I thought this an opportune moment to kickstart a thread to the bond-loving comedy legend. I'd say that without a shadow of a doubt, we'll see many more references in the upcoming movie.

A little more awesomeness...

[EDIT] There is a passage in Roger's book where he recalls his Father giving him a telling off after seeing the above episode live. It was the very first episode of the series and some viewers were confused as to whether it was indeed real, one being Rog's dad who'd considered his son's apparent behaviour to be inappropriate.

Loved pretty much everything Coogan has done with the character so far. Brilliant comedy and the fact that there's the odd Bond reference is an added bonus. Can't wait for the movie.

The most recent slice(es) of Partridge have not been that good. That said, both myself an my brother, are looking foward to the film.

Ohhh you're gonna have a good time.

I too love Alan Partridge - nice to hear there's going to be a Partridge film soon. Love all the Bond connections - but have you ever noticed how he keeps getting Bond specific Bondian names and details wrong on purpose - a little in-joke on the part of the writers?

Has anyone got the Partridge biography (best on audiobook as its read by the great man),

There's a passage in it where he describes how he psyched himself up for sports reports by pretending he was 'Roger Moore in AVTAK battling the evil Max Zorin and having sex with Grace Jones.'

I have to day I've not been blown away with the last few offerings and am not that hyped for a film as I think comedy struggles to sustain a plot over two hours.
Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Partridge, The Office - there are few if any films that can compete with those.

Only Life of Brian comes close and even that is really just a collection of sketches.

In The Loop proved the point most recently. It was OK but not a patch on the series and I have similar expectations for the Partridge film.

Why can't Coogan forget trying to be a movie star and Ianucci forget about making it in Hollywood and just give us another series?

Give us another series you shits!

How come DCisared hasn't posted in this thread yet?

Ever seen Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle, Ice? It's Ianucci backed and is very Partridge-related subtle humour.

You have gone up in my estimation Sir. Anyone who has an appreciation of Stewart Lee gets a thumbs up from the Wizard.

Went to see him live last year - about 150 of us there whilst Michael McIntyre sells out f**king Wembley. This country.

Yes, he's deadpan hilarious and a great overlooked talent. Did you see the people actually walking out during the show on the Second Series on BBC2 in 2011. Hilariious, but an acquired taste a la Partridge, The Day Today, Brass Eye, The Office, Extras etc.

A fan of Only Fools and Horses I am not!

Am I right? I'm not wrong.

On Pope Francis I "Jesus said 'Give all of your money to the poor. He didn't say give all of your money to the poor after you've finished painting the chapel ceiling gold or give all your money to the poor after you've paid it into a slush fund for child abuse victims." -- Stewart Lee. Never truer words spoken on the blatent hypocricy of the Church of Rome. Very relevant.

    Well said.

I think Only Fools was very good at it's peal but went downhill gradually. Should've ended it with them being millionaires and even then it was really pushing it.

Stewart Lee and Richard Herring created Partridge for On The Hour, although they are aware that it evolved gradually over time to become what it is today. Stewart Lee is a genius. If you live in London hopefully you've got tickets to his new show, 'Much a Stew about nothing'. He's doing warm ups in Soho in April/May and then the tour kicks off proper in Nov at the Leicester square theatre. Hopefully see some MI6 members at either of these.

I'm from Norn Iron, but I can see the Lee influence on Partridge and was aware of the background. They're all part of the same comedy ballpark.
  • Stewart Lee and Richard Herring - I remember watching their sketch show on tv many years ago. Great talents. I would love to see Lee live.

You should get tickets. Without sounding like a pretentious dick, his shows are pretty much art. He's an intriguing guy who makes Michael McIntyre look like a comedic amoeba.

Agreed. Stand-up comedy is an art form and Lee its finest practicioner.

Ha, McIntyre is an amoeba, speaks volumes when a person needs to dance around the stage shaking their floppy hair to get a laugh. I will definitely be on the look out for tickets for Lee.

The 2nd series of I'm Alan Partridge was weak, but the more recent stuff like Mud Morning Matters and Welcome to the Places of my Life were great. And the autobiography is fantastic

I thought the 2nd series was a bit too OTT at times but I wouldn't say it was weak. I still thought it was funny, and it had the episode where he reinacted TSWLM.

So, red nose day tomorrow. Anyone watching it? Quite looking forward to the David Brent bit.

Alan Partridge is good character. Steve Coogan a good actor one of my favourites. He was in the same movie with Timothy Dalton in Hot fuzz. He appeared with Pirece Brosnan in a movie I don't know what title is.

I feel like I miss out on a lot of UK-based things being here in the States. I guess to my American self, that Alan Partridge, to me, is 'that guy from 'The Other Guys',' or Steve Coogan. He's hilarious. I also loved him in 'Hamlet 2.'

Coogans best Hollywood work I reckon was Tropic Thunder. He was quite funny in that.

Not a patch on Partridge though.

Do you post in any other threads @TheWizardOfIce ? What the Hells going on? ..........

I've just seen this thread and I bring with my first post , the teaser trailer for the new movie " it's started"

Hmm - still on the fence with this. Might be brilliant or might be just average.

Where do people stand on the return of sidekick Simon?

Also what about Partridges barnet? Not convinced.
  • Hard to tell, I was hoping the teaser trailer might give us a glimpse of some actual footage of the movie but what we got was a mock brainstorming session. I can only hope it will be brilliant but I have a sinking feeling it will be a bit of a let down. It's not easy to take a tv comedy from small screen onto the big screen and make it into something worthy of the big screen whilst maintaing the essence of what made it so funny in the first place.

No I'm a bit sceptical aswell tbh . I want I Am Alan partridge series 1 and 2 level of funniness and although some mid morning matters were good, and his tour of Norfolk ( i forget the proper title) had moments of brilliance, I stil haven't enjoyed them as much as his older work.
I'm not a fan of sidekick Simon at all! But..... I'm told by a dear friend that Michael and Lynne are back! Which can only be a good thing!
  • Lynne was a great sidekick. her eternal suffering at the hands of Partridge.

Seige on a radio station? So is it Die Hard at Norwich FM with Partridge?

I'm excited but a bit skeptical. Wasn't blown away by the teaser but I never really am blown away by teasers. We'll see I suppose.
