    5) No Desmond Llewelyn! - Perhaps it's unfair to criticize the movie for this but he is sorely missed.

    4) The fake snake bite during the PTS.

    3) The boat chase that never ends. - They almost got away it but they just had to include one too many scenes with everyone's favorite Sheriff.

    2) Kanaga's Mr. Big disguise. - Seriously now. Just who is going to be fooled by this? It would only attract unwanted attention to you because people would be wondering what that s*** all over your face was.

    1) Rosie Carver - Ladies and Gentleman, long before Halle Berry, Denise Richards and Tanya Roberts we had Gloria Hendry. She just might be the worst actress of the lot.

Yep, you are right! I had just woken up when I did my list. So I changed it for LALD. Thanks!

5 - Wait, Bond can defeat trained Bruce Lee types too?

4 - The climax of the film depends on Goodnight's bottom.

3 - Playing tricks with a kid. Bad Bond!

2 - Bond is attacked at Saida's for seemingly no reason.

1 - The car loop with whistle.

1 - The pennywhistle on the car spiral jump stunt (which really was an AWESOME stunt!)
2 - Goodnight's great intelligence, decisiveness, and wit
3 - Bond drops his gun (it's BOND, for pity's sake!!)
4 - Nic Nac (I just find him annoying, I really do)
5 - The rollicking, so 60' swingin' theme song BELTED out ("I can do that, too, Shirley") by Lulu (an annoying song that sticks maddeningly in the mind looping over and over until strong efforts - for me usually a Stones or Led Zep song - erase it)

    5 Worst things.

    5. Bond getting his @$$ kicked. (Connery would have all of those ninjas taken out in seconds.)

    4. Lazar's missing finger obsession.

    3. JW Pepper and the Slide Whistle.

    2. The Solex subplot.

    1. Mary Goodnight.
    1) Slide whistle

    2) Goodnight

    3) Theme song

    4) The Solex story

    5) Bond chasing Nic Nac round the sofa. A far cry from battling Tee Hee on a train at the end of LALD.

Thinking about this now, I think TMWTGG might be the film with the most wasted potential of the series. And lots of this is mainly down to the pointless solex plot.

Imagine if it was a film about Roger Moore playing a dangerous globe trotting game of cat and mouse with Christopher Lee and his bizarre midget henchman? Simple but brilliant.
  • How I imagine the planning for this movie went:

    5. "Hey guys, I need some ways to improve this movie about James Bond having a showdown with the world's greatest assassin. Can you think of any?" "Well, for starters, we'll have a scene where he fights bad guys in a kung fu school and is rescued by teenagers..."

    4. "...And we'll bring back the redneck sherif from the last movie..."

    3. "...And then we can add a subplot about solar energy that we periodically abandon!" "Brilliant!"

    2. "Hey guys, how are we going to destroy the villain's lair at the end?" "Have the Bond girl hit the button of doom with her ass?" "Brilliant!"

    1. "Hey, guys, we have an awesome car stunt. It does a double rotation over a half a bridge!" "Let's add a slide whistle!" "Brilliant!"

Honorable mention goes to Nick Nack.

Exactly. I understand that it might have been a bit of a stretch to make a two hour movie out of Bond vs. Scaramanga. The problem is that everything else that they added ranges from mediocre to terrible. Wasted potential indeed.

    As for my list...
    5) The theme song - Up until 2002 this was easily my least favorite of the entire series.

    4) The end fight with Nick Nack - This is just too silly.

    3) The return of JW - At least he had a purpose in LALD. Was it really necessary to include him here? I'll give you a hint. The answer is no.

    2) Mary Goodnight - A lazy answer but it's just too hard to come up with one moment. It's completely baffling how M could send her on a mission with Bond and think that this is a good thing. The most incompetent aide Bond has ever had.

    1) Hip's nieces - At the risk of sounding incredibly sexist, I think that these two little teenage girls opening a can of whoop*** on a small army of highly trained men (without even getting a scratch on them) is more unbelievable than anything that we saw in MR and DAD put together. Then to top it all off, Hip and the girls just drive away and leave Bond there.

On reflection I think this could be the worst scene in Bond history.

And I'm including the tsunami parasurfing there. At least on paper that is an epic sequence.

Hips nieces sounds utter shite however you present it and theres no way you could ever claim 'that sounded great in the script, its just they completely buggered it up in execution.'

I think even the double take pigeon doesnt wind me up as much as its just a single second of film but what starts out as a cool scene in the kung fu school turns first to embarrassment when the girls show up and then just the laziest piece of writing in screen history when Hip just drives off for absolutely no reason in order that we can have a boat chase.

And what about the interviews the girls gave saying they wrote to EON saying could they be in a Bond film and Cubby apparently said 'Yeah why the f**k not? That wouldnt be pissing all over Flemings grave now would it?'

Utterly indefensible. At least you could say about Tamahori that he had a grand vision for the parasurfing scene its just that rather than stumping up the cash for ILM, EON opted for some pikey CGI company whose only previous job was apparently the original Ridge Racer on PS1 so it ended up a shambles.

Hips nieces the biggest load of bollocks in the Bondiverse - including anything in DAD and MR. Discuss.

You have a point there although Jaws falling in love, Blofeld in drag, etc, none of this would ever sound great in a script either. That scene is definitely one of the shittest though, no question.

I would like to see the DAD parasurfing done today with the effects used for 2012 and the like. It'd still be too OTT but at least it'd look quite cool.

4 - Scaramanga goes slightly SM with the gun against Andrea's lips.

3 - Scaramange tells the elephant story.

2 - Flying to Scaramanga's island, mostly due to Barry's score.

1 - The funhouse sequences, mostly due to Barry's score.

    1. Bond kicks his would-be karate opponent during the opening bows
    2. The car jumping the bridge (if you press the Mute key on the remote first)
    3. The funhouse sequences
    4. Scaramanga casually assembling his golden gun in front of his next victim
    5. The elephant story

    1. Bond shows J. Dubya how to do the Astro Spiral.
    2. The fight scene in Saida's room has never, ahem, 'lost its charm'. One of Moore's absolute best fights.
    3. Meeting a very informative Lazar in Macau.
    4. Bond takes the fun house tour.
    5. Dinner with Scaramanga.

    Honourable mentions:

-a bit of AMC product placement
-Scaramanga and Hai Fat meet in person.

    5) Bond and Scaramanga have lunch - Christopher Lee shines in this scene. The moment when he tells Bond that he only needs one bullet to kill him is wonderful.

    4) The fight in the dressing room - It's not the greatest fight scene in Bond movie history by any stretch of the imagination but I like it just the same. It's also fun to see Moore's unflappable Bond get his feathers ruffled a bit. He actually gets a bloody lip! I wish we could have seen more of this during the Moore era.

    3) The PTS - Again, this isn't up there with the best of them but look at the movie we're working with folks. What a great introduction to Scaramanga and Nick Nack, as well as Scaramanga's island and funhouse for that matter. I find this duel to be more thrilling than the underwhelming one at the end of the film.

    2) Bond enters Ms. Anders' hotel room - To find Maud Adams in the shower! Moore plays a fascinating walking contradiction of a well dressed, upper class British gentleman and a brute thug who is used to getting his way. I'm not quite sure he pulled it off entirely (Moore had his best "dark" moments under Glen's direction) but it is always interesting to watch.

    1) The assassination of Gibson - The entire sequence starting with the.. bottom of the girl from the Bottom's Up Club; to Bond smoking a cigar outside; to Scaramanga in bed with Ms. Anders; to Bond watching Nick Nack in the televisions; to Scaramanga hiding in the shadows; culminating with the bullet that enters Gibson's skull. The shot of a dead Gibson with blood running down his head is chilling. Where was Hamilton's panache and imagination hiding for most of the rest of this film? The next shot of Scaramanga holding the gun up to Ms. Anders is the perfect nightcap to a wonderfully executed string of events.
