Good one, @Murdock! Can't believe I actually forgot about this. It's always bothered me.
Indeed @DarthDimi. Since Craig's Bond has lightning fast vision when it comes to a computer screen, they could have just flashed 100 faces and he could have picked out Patrice and still have enough time to get to Granborough Road for tea and back. :))

5: A lack of the Bond theme in this one. For such a return-to-roots Bond film you'd think it'd be everywhere.

4: Moneypenny as a field agent. I HATE this idea. I get that the point is she was awful at it so she did desk work, but I do not think it worked at all.

    3: Time for a MON-TAGE!

2: "VW beetles." that was worse than the "Rolex?" "Omega." crap in CR.

1: And the thing that made Skyfall literally fall to #6 on my list: how Silva's plan accomodates everything and works perfectly as if he knew five years in advance that M would have a hearing the day of his escape. So beyond implausible and a massive flaw.

One of my favorite Bond films ; let me think ...

    1) Lack of theme song during the film (far too little) and main Bond theme not well used
    2) Severine's death came too quickly (would have preferred not at all, but still too soon)
    3) Yes, Patrice showing up as one of 3 who use these bullets. I remember my reaction: "Huh? Oh, okay, it's a Bond film but ... hmmm"
    4) CGI Silva's dental dilemma (yyyuuuuuccckkkky CGI)
    5) No explanation given, even indirectly from what I could tell (enlighten me if you will), why Silva stopped publishing the secret list of agents (and did he stop publishing them?) - I can guess at this, but any sort of quick explanation (one line would have done it) would have been a bit better, in my opinion. It was touted as incredibly damaging ... and then just dropped out of the story.

    1. From the moment silva be in the picture, the story with the lost/stolen card is vergotten.
    2. Return to Mi6/Eve is Moneypenny
    3. Bond whas on time to delay M her death, but we don't see how he survived the Die Another Day reference under the ice with Henchman.
    4. Eve fight in Macau and she take the money and P&W feel need to make reference later to that point see point 2. See bring in the money, let we her re-name
Moneypenny. Funny! Not!. Another silly DAD humor left over.
    5. M has nothing and then she die in couple of unbelieable fast and Bond not show any emotion. Weak with all those happenings before with M/mother-son thing.
    6. The TDK music with the elevator (Shangai part 2)
    7. Skyfall.... Skyfall. Done. Why there asking about Skyfall is never explaind and then later in the movie he go to place named with that name and it be strange Bond go there.. I know the producers play with us, because the trailer of the movie give us the idea there happend something first with Skyfall and then quistion. This also make the movie more slower with knowing whyle you watching the movie that stil must happend something with Skyfall.

And i have more problems with the mabey to good looking cinematography/thanks to the digital filming.

Point 5 be kind of mistake there make earlier with CR to QOS. To understand something or in this case get the response i search for, we need the next movie. So a problem i have with the movie be that something be so like not anser or not Bond like as in CR. The Enjoying death moment with CNN be example.
  • Forgot about the last round, so you all get the privilege of two in one.

    Best in Quantum of Solace:

    5. Fight with Slate

    4. The hotel-one of the most Bondian set pieces in recent memory.

    3. Bond and Mathis on the plane.

    2. All things Mr. White

    1. Elvis!

    Just kidding.

    1. The ending.

    Worst moments in Skyfall:

    5. Bond and Severine in the shower. Getting a little creepy there, big guy.

    4. Wanna buy some Heineken? What about a VW Beetle?

    3. Naomie Harris giving John Terry a run for his money, especially "Then you better keep moving," and "I decLIIIINED". The first makes me cringe, the second makes me laugh.

    2. The utter lack of explanation for Bond's survival. I still want my impossibly badass story!

    1. Silva's magic escape, especially the part where he somehow kills multiple police officers with psy powers.
  • #1 The ending (plus M dying) - I thought Dench was good for at least another release and they killed her off a little too premature - and not only that, but after a very decent two hours duration, it all culminates with the main villain getting a knife in the back, a la Aris Kristatos, and it's all over pretty quickly

#2 Eve turns out to be Moneypenny - or is she just Eve Moneypenny, a field agent - and not the actual character we are so used to ? Too much ambiguity for some

#3 The Adele theme song. Not one of my favorite artists - but she did what she could. It was a decent theme at first, but has lost it's appeal in the almost year now since release

#4 Having a kid in the Q role. (should possibly have been #3 but not going to change now). Got so used to Llewelyn in the role that did so well, and even Cleese as the supplier in later releases worked to a certain extent, but having the character appear so young ? Being a computer whizz is no excuse, moving with the times, or otherwise

#5 The Severine actor (Marlohe). Pretty, but face was caked in so much mascara, it was hard to see any resembling features when with Bond in the casino. (See Eva Green, Casino Royale). Bond girls don't need to obliterate their faces in cosmetics in order to look alluring or attractive. Not only that, wasn't on screen long enough, and not really a name to remember

PS should of put Dench says "fu@k" somewhere in the above list also. We don't need profanities like that in the James Bond series, some will argue, and especially from a character like that. Just didn't think it necessary for inclusion

    5. Patrice standing still atop the train car for what seems like forever. Why?

    4. Patrice's death. "Who are you working for?" is a cliched groaner of a line.

    3. Eve/Moneypenny "retirement from the field" angle. She didn't seem that troubled being in the field in Macau, her motivation to retire not strong enough.

    2. Bond suddenly being old and a dinosaur. Felt like it should have come about two films later for Craig, especially since CR and QoS were back-to-back.

    1. Silva's convoluted revenge plot. Really?
  • QBranchQBranch Always have an escape plan. Mine is watching James Bond films.

    1. When Bond operates the controls of the excavator, the camera lingers on his watch just a little too long for my liking.
    2. Silva takes his teeth out. I have no problem with any of the other CGI stuff in the film, but something about his cheek and mouth just seems off.
    3. The MI6 guard helps Silva escape, considering he asked nicely.
    4. The McGuffin disappears from existence. That's right, there was one.
    5. In the chapel, Kincade is in back, supposedly looking for a weapon. He knows Silva could burst in at any moment, so why not hide beside the door and smack him across the face with his torch when he comes in FFS.

    5) Moneypenny being a field agent - I might be able to overlook this egregious error if it never happens again but I have a feeling that this will not be the case.

    4) Severine dying so quickly/the lack of romance - I was fine with QoS not having any romance because Bond was still grieving. That made sense. Severine was killed off far too soon and it really made Bond look like a cruel bastard for using her and leading her straight to her death. Are we not going to have any more romance in the Craig era? Even a dark film like LTK gave Bond a love interest.

    3) No explanation as to how Bond survived the fall in the PTS - Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he could have lived after being shot and falling from that height. It appears that he is knocked unconscious though so how did he not drown and/or bleed to death?

    2) Silva's magic escape plan - The chances of it working are highly unlikely at best. Plus, if he knew where M was going to be why did he allow himself to get captured at all? Seems to me like a very big risk to take. Surely a man with all of the resources that he had could have found a way to sneak into the country.

    1) Mallory sending M to her death - I just can't see how he could go along with Bond's plan. Plus, Silva is the world's most wanted terrorist at this point. There would be a massive manhunt to track down this man. They would send a highly specialized force of commandos to capture and/or kill him. Bond shouldn't be the one feeling guilty at the end of the movie. It should be Mallory.

    This is hard...

    5. Not Silva's unlikely escape but Q's lines explaining it was years of planning and that he wanted to be caught. No need for that and it would have left open the question if it was improvisation or planning.
    4. Severine sudden demise. It's a powerful moment in the movie but it would been great if Bond could have liberated her as in most Fleming novels. It would have been nice also if he have ended in bed with her at the end, finding a "quantum of solace" after his deep lost. Remember Bond finds pleasure in great beauty!
    3. The lack of Adele's Skyfall theme on the original soundtrack (except for "Komodo Dragon").
    2. Gunbarrel at the end. The silhouette is great as the whole opening shot with the two-note theme, and of course it wouldn't fit the gunbarrel. But it's a Bond film and the first shot should fit the gunbarrel and not the other way around.
    1. The absence of a movie between QOS and SF. This is why it's difficult to go from a young Bond to an older one, no matter how brillaint is performed by Craig.

2: "VW beetles." that was worse than the "Rolex?" "Omega." crap in CR.

I always took that as a sly reference to the Connery quip from Goldfinger about listening to Beatles without earmuffs.
The worst line to me would be the resurrection as a hobby stupidity.

    1. How exactly does Bond survive a 200ft fall in the PTS? Answers please on a postcard...

    2. The slow pace of the first hour or so. Could definitely have done with a big set piece in Shanghai.

    3. No Gunbarrell at the start. Again!

    4. The line "It's the circle of life". Hate it.

    5. Q is a techno genius yet it's Bond who's able to crack Silva's code of "Granborough Road" in an instant.

LIST 63 (5 best moments in QOS) : I have to rewatch it. Soon.

LIST 64 (5 or more worst moments in Skyfall) :

    6) No double senses BG names.

    5) The line "Everybody needs a hobby" - "Resurrection"...

    4) Q and Severine actors ; I found them dull and boring. Q should stay an older man than 007, even if we could call it here modernity.

    3) Lack of style in action sequences. Or perhaps Craig lacked of class...despite his improvement in the role.

    2) Too much "à la Dark Knight" feeling with some Silva scenes.

    1) Eve Moneypenny in field ! And poorly explained it was her at the end of the film. That's just a bad idea. It would have been way better to call her differently. Just another character.

It's hard to pick 5 - Skyfall is one of my favourite Bond films, but here goes..

    5. I would have liked to have seen a bit of romance between Bond and Severine, maybe making the boat scene longer..or adding a couple more scene's of them together..

    4. Eve's "It's some kind of sadistic game".

    3. Hardly any use of the theme song throughout the film..

    2. No Gunbarrel at the start of the film..

    1. I fell in love with Severine from the moment that i found out that Berenice had been cast to play her, and after seeing so many pics, stills and interviews of her during the filming of Skyfall, i was quite disappointed when i found out that she had very little screen time. Unfortunately, some of her scene's ended up on the cutting room floor. I would have liked to have seen a lot more of her, being the only real Bond girl in the film, i thought that her demise came much too soon. I think her character could have been developed a lot more. I would have particularly liked to have seen her in the 'escalator scene' with her body guards, when somebody hands something to her as they pass each other on the escalator, which was cut from the film for some reason. Although Severine's death was very memorable, i would have liked to have seen her with Bond at the end..

I (and several of us, I think) are completely with you in wanting more of Severine in Skyfall. Here's hoping the next main Bond girl lasts longer (and I also really want her to survive until the end, and end up with Bond, too)

Just going off of the top of my head for five worst moments in SF, in no particular order:

1.) The Macau casino fight scene. It's way too comical and held back for my tastes, especially after the brutality Craig has brought to CR and QoS.

2.) The reality-suspending escape scene from Silva's cell. Like TDK, way too much plays into it for me to believe it.

3.) The lack of gunbarrel, though I love how the film opens.

4.) The under-usage of Severine. I enjoyed her character, and she's killed almost as soon as she is introduced properly. She could have gotten more screen time (and answered a plot hole, of sorts) by keeping the scene with her meeting Patrice and giving him the equipment in Shanghai.

5.) Some of the forced comedy, such as "I always hated this place."

    5. Silva's grand plan to be caught and then escape is a little...I dunno.
    4. I was hoping for more light to be shed on Quantum, but nope.
    3. We're never really shown/told how Bond survived that fall at the beginning.
    2. Too little use of Bond theme.
    1. So little screen time for poor Severine, who looked like she was shaping up to be one of the more interesting and elegant Bond girls. So sad.

5 - Bond wasted, drunk, May Payne in Max Payne 3. I'm sorry, I love the fall of the hero, provided he picks himself up again. [Yes, Alfred, I phrased it like we agreed.]

4 - Talking to Séverine at the casino. Well shot, well acted. Overall: superb!

3 - Exploding the house, the helicopter, the thugs. Great pyro stuff.

2 - Shanghai! Wow, just wow. Beautiful, inspiring, powerful. Wow.

    1 - Final scene with M(allory). Some say it's a give-away but I was super-excited!

    1. The PTS- notably Bond's entrance, and 'changing carriages'. The way Bond uses the excavator to stop the carriages from separating and at the same time opening a hole in the roof for him to enter is just epic. Add in some cuff adjustment for good measure.
    2. Bond in Shanghai- specifically the neon highway, losing his grip while holding onto the elevator, and watching Patrice from behind the glass reflections.
    3. "Q, do I get on the train?" I don't know what it is about this scene, I just love how the train takes off before Q can confirm Silva is aboard, plus the elderly couple looking in disbelief as he jumps on the back like any pretend health and safety inspector would.
    4. Bond goes to Macau- especially the lit-up dragons and floating lanterns, the casino itself, and of course meeting the smoking Sévérine.
    5. M hands Bond the dossier for his next mission. Roll on 2015!

    Honourable mentions:

The drive to Skyfall. Wonderfully shot.
Raoul Silva's one-take entrance. A superb villain on par with the best in the series.
Seeing Bond get back on top of his game.
    There are too many!
    5. The attack on the courthouse
    4. Jumping to catch the train
    3. Driving to SKYFALL
    2. Silva's introduction speech
    1. The whole casino sequence: from the arriving with the rendition to the Skyfall theme, the conversation with Severine, the fight with the Komodo dragons and the exit with the Bond theme

    Honorable mentions:
M giving Bond the orders to kill Patrice, "with pleasure"
    Driving to the new diggs
The shot of Bond looking on top of the MI6 building, "hate to waste a view"
  • edited October 2013 Posts: 6,396
    1. Tennyson. Enough said.

    2. Bond and M driving through the Scottish Highlands to Skyfall. The score and cinematography. Just wonderful.

    3. Silva's low key arrival at Skyfall. In a f***ing big helicopter. Accompanied by "Boom Boom" by The Animals. (The lyrics fit perfectly with Silva's psyche).

    4. The climax played out in the chapel. Silva's hunt comes to an end but the look of distress on his face when he notices M's mortal wound is actually quite terrifying and sums up just how twisted he's become.

    5. Bond confronts M at her house. "Where the hell have you been?". "Enjoying death".

    Honorable mentions:

    Danny Kleinman's title sequence. Brilliant.
Adele's theme song. Best in decades.
The London Underground sequence and the train crash.
Silva: "Say my name. My REAL name. I know you remember it"
Silva again. Quite possibly the best villain since Sanchez and one of the most memorable. Every time he's on screen, the film is all the better for it.
The supporting cast. Quite possibly the strongest ever assembled for a Bond.
The new M gives Bond his next assignment...
M: "I f***ed this up didn't?" Summed up the whole situation in a nutshell. No other word would have been appropriate.

    In no particular order:

1.) The PTS, it's so fantastic.
2.) The fight scene in the Shanghai building between Bond and Patrice.
    3.) Silva's introduction speech. It's perfect.
4.) The finale, especially the chapel scene and the buildup before the fight.
5.) The shaving scene between Bond and Eve.

Also, it's very quick, but I love Bond's closed-eyed, shocked expression when M flicks on the lights in her house. I also love M's line with the infamous f-word. It was just so surprising to me and sums up the entirety of her actions in the film perfectly.

Definitely doing ten for this. As flawed as certain elements are in Skyfall, there's only one film I"ve ever come out of a theater from more excited: hint, it's another Daniel Craig Bond film not called Quantum of Solace. Tough one, I know.

10: The hallway shot. I don't mind the gunbarrel at the end because this is just as good.
9: Bond fights Patrice in Shanghai. Visually, nothing short of "stunning" can describe it.
8: Bond meets Q in the art gallery. Brilliant.
7: All the things that discredit the codename theory. If you've not guessed I despise the codename theory. Pure rubbish it is.
6: Very minor but I love the shot of Bond walking out onto to the street in Istanbul. The transition from the dark, quiet hotel to the busy, loud, bright streets is perfect.
5: All the scenes of Bond on the beach in exile. Fleming would've applauded. That could've been in a faithful YOLT adaptation. Anyone know where this part was filmed?
4: M reads Tennyson as Bond rushes to the hearing. Newman's score here gives me chills.
3: All of the Macau casino sequence. From the establishing shot to when Bond walks out of the casino after dispatching the henchmen, that was classic Bond. Very reminiscent of the (good) Connery years.
2: Silva and M in the church/"Last rat standing"/The death of M. I was in tears by the end of it. Bardem, Dench, and Craig all give one of the best scenes either of them have ever performed.
1: "So, 007. Are you ready to get back to work?" "With pleasure, M. With pleasure." One of the best endings to a Bond film ever.

So tough to pick just 5 from this film..

    5. Adele's theme song

    4. The finale, with the house exploding and leading to the brilliant climax at the Chapel.

    3. Bond and Severine's scene at the Casino.

    2. Shanghai - breathtaking and beautifully filmed.

    1. Bond's fight with Patrice in Shanghai. I love the way it was filmed, and the view of Severine afterwards..

    Honorable mentions:

Silva - Best villain for a very long time.
    The drive to Skyfall.
    The attack on the Courthouse.
    Bond's first meeting with Q
    The PTS

1.Q and inspecialy Introduction of the new Quatermaster in museum.
    2. Maintitle. The song work les for me in the movie. The symbol in the maintitle is great. With Cr and QOS we already learn the DC maintitle predict the future too, but Skyfall also visual symbol this time of (Live and Death) Live And Let Die and to earlier lyrics of Casino Royale.
3.Skyfall. Goldeneye whas the last movie til Skyfall where something big be destroyd. I specialy after the weak hotel in QOS. The things there did with Astin Martin, Home Alone and Judi Dench M reference to Twine. It be shame that what happend later after Silva dicover Hans and Grietje (Bread Crumple) it going to be disapointed.
    4. I have liked to see more of Bond training at Mi6. Shame part with Park be removed/M-Malory and Tanner looking to Bond behind a window with silence.
    5. Komodo Dragon.
    6. Opening. With the second view i like cars chase a bit more, but iam not big fan when the train scene start.. That be a bit to much Die Another Day reference and Casino Royale Hulk. Favorite part be reference to Goldeneye and jump in Turkey.
    7. Courthouse scene. Then i mean Showing Bond in London and the scene's in court, the music from Newman there and thing with car/M we going back in time. But exclude Silva be in London after the thing with Metro: I think that part is to much Dark Knight.
    8. Whyle i not realy understand Bond dryving M to scotland, i like the moment there take a litle break and look over the mountain.

But those things fall like Skyfall like cardhouse/Casino Royale Sinking house because of the disapointed ending of Dench M and Eve secret and missing a action scene and very disapointed use of Severine/missing a real Bond girl. After QOS i expect Skyfall mabey more like that and those 4 years waiting not realy help.

The promotion whas good. Not so good as with Twine, but also not to much like DAD. Stil i think the movie be a bit over-rated like that happend with Casino Royale and Die Another Day.

For today, I'll list 15 but I could easily do 20, Skyfall is a great Bond film and one of my top 10 favorites. I will add more later, I feel sure ...

    15) Titles sequence - one of the best ever!
    14) Theme song and soundtrack (especially piece called "Komodo Dragon" sequence, when Bond sails into the casino harbor and it does incorporate part of the lovely theme song)
    13) The script - plot holes aside, it has some very fine dialog, a great villain, wit, and charm. I think Bond, Severine, Mallory, and M are particularly well written.
    12) The entire PTS - brilliantly shot, edited, acted; exciting and relevant
    11) "Boom!Boom!" Silva's arrival by killer helicopter at Skyfall; the music just screamed "Here comes crazy man!!" - a perfect arrival for this villain
    10) Eve - I loved Naomie's performance; for me it sparkled and she has very good chemistry with Craig. I'm happy they brought her into this series.
    9) The drive to Scotland - Bond, M, the car, the stunning scenery and perfect score at that moment
    8) Bond shows up at M's apartment; really great lines, fine acting by Dench and Craig
    7) Silva's intro, that long camera shot, his "last rat standing" story and Craig's entire reaction to him, the whole scene was memorable
    6) Intro to Shangahi - so stunningly filmed/edited it was truly breathtaking
    5) The great Skyscraper fight segueing into our first glimpse of Severine, the wind blowing her hair through the shattered window (classic!)
    4) Bond meets Severine at the casino - smoking hot, superb acting, perfect Flemingesque dialog and atmosphere (pure Bond)
    3) The lovely, iconic shot of Bond on the rooftop at the end, overlooking London, with the UK flag flapping in the breeze. Stunning and meaningful.
    2) Courtroom scene, building to Judi's magnificent delivery of Tennyson and Silva's bursting in on them
    1) Judi's final scenes in the series as M; the entire church sequence ... beautifully acted by Dench,Craig, and Bardem - she was given a superb last scene and of course rose to the occasion.

Two Special Honorable Mentions - Overall, I want to say ROGER DEAKINS is my new idol. I have said that on other threads, I know. This is a stunningly filmed movie. Just superb; his cinematography lifted this film to another realm. And SAM MENDES, who did his own take on Bond and knocked this one out of the ballpark.
