5 - The comedy. While I feel this has no place in the Bond character, at least to the levels Moore did it - wit, yes; outright comedy bits, no - he did do it very well.

4 - That voice. This man could read the phonebook to me any time.

3 - His ability to actually give off a Flemingesque performance, despite the aforementioned comedy; it's a shame we only got to see it in TMWTGG which is otherwise an awful film. Although I do think he did a great job in Octopussy as well.

2 - How, during his tenure, he made Bond look like he had an IQ of 400 or something. Bond's intelligence in terms of his wide spectrum of knowledge is seldom explored in the films outside of Moore's run.

1 - The man loved being Bond, had nothing but fun doing it, and it shows on screen. Despite the fact that he's the least Flemingesque of the lot, he was at least good at playing Bond the way he played him and, again, loved every second of it. That puts him above Brosnan for me to take 5th place.

    1) He didn't copy Connery - he found his own style, his own way of being Bond - including his superb voice and reactions, his own very compelling charm

    2) He was so sauve, a gentleman - far more in manner, tone, and style than any other Bond

    3) His wry way of delivering humor; including the raised eyebrow ;)

    4) His decency as a defender of the Good - I think that came through, yes

    5) His gravitas underneath it all; especially for me in FYEO

Honorable mention: He was wonderfully good looking, a splendid looking man

5 - The action. I love Dalton's moves as an action Bond. Not a brawler like Connery, not a fighter like Lazzers, not a terminator like Craig. Dalton was his own action man and I love his every punch.

4 - The tux. Dalton looks so darn fine in a tuxedo. And he moves well in one too.

3 - The voice, the accent. I love Moore's but Dalton's is even more polished. His English, the warmth of his voice, ... it's a joy to hear him talk.

2 - The looks. I so would love to look like TLD's Dalton. And those eyes, the anger in them. Wow!

1 - His line delivery. I like what he does with the words that were written for him, the way he uses intonation.

    Yeah. Ten for me. Easily.

10: His method approach to Bond; he's the only one of the actors who used method acting with Bond, reading the novels on and off set, studying the character's mannerisms and personality to the minute detail and mimicking them all perfectly, and I really admire that. He was dedicated to the character, 110%. Except for maybe with Craig, you sort of get the idea that the other Bonds were just doing another acting job in the end. They all liked the character and liked being Bond, but it doesn't really go beyond that.

9: The voice! Timothy Dalton has my favourite voice ever. Well, tied with Morgan Freeman, of course, But whereas Roger Moore could read the phonebook to me, I WANT Tim to read the phonebook to me.

8: The look. I'd still probably say the Laz is the best looking Bond, but Tim is the biggest contender for that. The man pretty much didn't age from 1980 - 2000 and could've been Bond for that entire period of time. I also love the hair in TLD, he really was a dead ringer for Fleming's description of Bond and TLD is my favourite Bond hairstyle film.

7: The acting ability. Timothy Dalton is the finest actor to play Bond and one of the best actors ever in my books. The scene in LTK where he discovers Della and Felix is just one example of this. The way he scrambles across the floor to pick up the phone and knocks it off the table when picking it up is brilliant.

6: Whereas I'd say Lazenby was maybe better at the action stuff, at least in the sense that he was more natural to it having had the experience, Timothy did a lot of his own stunts, which in itself is something I wholeheartedly respect, but he was damn good at all of it too.

5: The man could fit into a tux, and by God could he REALLY fit into one. The defection scene in TLD must be pure eyecandy for the female Bond fans.

4: The way he delivers his lines. He always knows the perfect way of saying what's on the script, whether it be hurried and frantic ("BondJamesBond" in the TLD PTS) or smooth and calm ("Don't think... just let it happen."). I don't have a problem with a single one of Tim's line deliveries as Bond.

3: I've been trying to keep individual moments out of these particular lists, but the interrogation scene with Pushkin, as stated by many others, is the best scene in the entire series. That's definitely owed a lot to Tim.

2: His chemistry with every actor he shared the screen with. Some of the best acting in the series and even in all of cinema happened when he had scenes with, for example, John Rhys-Davies and Robert Davi, actors of similar calibre to him. But even when he was with inferior actors (Talisa Soto, Joe Don Baker, some of the more minor characters in LTK) he really was able to elevate their game so they weren't as bad.

1: Similar to 2, but his chemistry with Maryam d'Abo in particular stands out. It's one of the best onscreen romances in the series and they really just worked with eachother. The ferris wheel scene is perfection and I've always appreciated the slowing of pace in that part of TLD because it's very effectively done and the scene is brilliant. The ending of the film is wonderful as well.

    5. I think he looked and played Bond to perfection, and looks great in the tux.

    4. I like his 'serious, darker' Bond. Great in the fight scenes too.

    3. Such a great actor, and he had terrific chemistry with his leading ladies - Maryam and Carey.

    2. His voice and the way he delivered his lines - but also some of the expressions on his face of contempt, anger or tenderness were brilliant..

    1. Although he could be ruthless and headbutt somebody without battering an eye-lid, he was wonderful at being romantic aswell. I love his "So why don't you ask me" moment's with Pam.

I love the man, and wish he had done a couple more..

Ahhh, I forgot to mention that Tim got the best ending of any Bond film ever with LTK.

    About Dalton :

    5. his self-sufficiency as a 00 agent (doing it his own way -LTK) rocks ; I call it wild side

    4. his dark look in the eyes

    3. the way he smokes and wears the suit

    2. his serious

    1. his own stunts
  • For Moore:

    5. The suit-wearing. He wore it as well as anybody.

    4. Being able to set a new example. He got the series out of Connery's shadow as well as anybody could have.

    3. The charm of a proper British gentleman.

    2. The darkness that still lurked below it. Kicking Locque's car off the cliff is probably the best example.

    1. The humor. The Spy Who Loved Me is a tour de force.

    For Dalton:

    5. The voice. Not Connery's, but a formidable accent all the same.

    4. Whatever you call being willing to take public transportation to track somebody.

    3. Smoking. It's a welcome sight to see Bond light up.

    2. The tenderness. For a dark Bond, he showed his softer side very well in his final scenes.

    1. The darkness. It wasn't going to be anything else, was it?

5 - Brosnan has a couple of nice moves, for example I love how he pulls open the door on the yacht in GE.

4 - He looks very polished, refined almost, like a doll. But there's something about that I do not necessarily find objectionable. He brought his own looks to the game.

3 - Brosnan can act! I know it's slightly controversial to make such a statement here but there you have it. I think Brosnan really does a lot of great things with some his scenes.

    2 - I like Brosnan's gun barrel motions.

1 - He wore tuxes very well.

    Moore:

1.) The man had some great style.
2.) Most of us associate him with being more upbeat/comedic, and I thought, for the most part, he had a nice mixture of comedy and deadliness.
3.) Locales. The finales and locations that Moore's Bond tackles are some of my favorites in the series.
4.) He just seemed like an incredibly sweet, kind man...
5.) ...but with that, when the gloves were off and it was time to do what it takes to complete the mission, he was not a man to be messed with.

    Dalton:

1.) He was THE pre-Craig, bringing the brutality to the series before CR arrived.
2.) The man looked great in a tux.
3.) Given that he only had two films, he really owned both of them, shining throughout and giving us two great, underrated additions to the series.
    4.) His acting was fantastic.
5.) With the brutality, he brought a lot of fantastic action scenes to the series.

    Brosnan:

(Not even sure where to begin)

1.) His acting. I'm with Dimi and I know I'll get shot down for this, but he's a fantastic actor to me. The pain faces never really bothered me (unless they were photos, then they looked funny) and yes, he added emphasis on some unnecessary words, but in terms of acting, the man is a star.
2.) His fight scenes are tense and realistic. (I'm looking at you, Bond vs. Trevelyan)
3.) He looked great in all of the suits and outfits he wore.
4.) He had some really fantastic lines, and his "Bond, James Bond." intro in GE is superb. Such a confident ambiance to it.
5.) I know it's a small thing, and I could spend all day talking about what I love about him, but some of his movements were really great: the 70's porno-esque way of him opening the GE yacht door, the way he slams the door open and draws his gun inside the GE yacht, the way he is running and catches the AK Trevelyan throws to him in the GE PTS, the way he books it out of the trap set by Miranda and Gustav in DAD, etc.

    About Brosnan :

    10. the human side he brought to the character (GoldenEye, TWINE and DAD pts. )

    9. his own stunts (some I think)

    8. his ruthless moments (GoldenEye, TND, TWINE)

    7. the epitome of coolness !

    6. well balanced between serious and joke

    5. being some medley of his predecessors (Connery's class, Moore's wit, Dalton's serious, Lazenby's light-hearted moments)

    4. his acting ; his fighting skills, his gunbarrel...

    3. the way he delivers the famous lines (Bond...James Bond ; vodka-martini shaken, not stirred...)

    2. his charm and sweetness

    1. his incredible good looking (the face of 007) and his class (especially in dinner jackets)

Ahh, Pierce. I'll stick to 5 for today:

    1) Being his own Bond. (You think saying "acting" is controversial? How about the people who just label him "popcorn" and copying Moore and trying to a little of everything? Bah humbug to all of that!) I like very much indeed Brosnan as James Bond in GE and TND. Not so perfect in TWINE and although DAD was horrible, conception to finish, Brosnan was not bad in it. Pierce Brosnan took over after a long wait, after a serious and refined actor named Timothy Dalton who nailed the dark tones of Bond but legalities and general public woes piled up; he stepped into Bond's shoes when the series was in desperate need of resuscitating and nothing - I truly believe, nothing - was a given for him. So many folks knew him from Remington Steele? That's nice but it wouldn't hold water for the real deal - playing James Bond in an EON produced Bond film - if he didn't have the acting chops, charisma, charm, versatility, and force to pull it off. He gave a highly credible, enjoyable, and Bond career establishing performance in GE and he perfected his Bond in TND, in my opinion. He didn't try to copy anybody - he is too smart for that. He already had his own charm and style, wit and, for sure, underlying depth. I respect Brosnan's Bond very much and firmly wish (like for Dalton) that he had at least one more film in the canon.

    2) His chemistry with other actors: M, Q, Moneypenny,Valentin, and Natalya for examples ~ I think Brosnan had the most delightful chemistry with Q; I love all of their scenes together. He and Samantha Bond clicked, and of course Judi and Brosnan upped each other's games and really brought her character in firmly with just the right nuances between them. Excellent! Brosnan worked well with his co-stars including, I think, a perfect give and take balance with Robbie Coltrane as Valentin and a sizzling, terrific chemistry with Izabella Scorupco as Natalya.

    3) The way he moves - I love his walk, his mannerisms, oh yes. Elegant, suave, always a bit of mischief lurking nearby, and a sucker punch at the ready too.

    4) His romantic side; very believable and in good contrast to his cold killer side.

    5) His delivery of some lines. He could do a decent one liner, he could charm with a simple sentence, he could let the killer deadness creep into his voice, he could be strictly business ... and he could break your heart.

    Here's to you, Pierce!
And thanks for all the great Bond moments you gave this series.

    4. Best hair of any Bond actor thus far.
    5. Chemistry with the ladies.

5 - His physicality. Craig unleashes hell when he does some muscle work.

    4 - His voice. Wow!

3 - His manners: how he tosses a cell phone or some keys away, absolutely kick-ass!

2 - His looks, unconventional though they may be, fit the nu-Bond best.

1 - Daniel Craig is a fascinating actor, a great actor, a charismatic actor.

Daniel Craig as James Bond: What? But ...! He looks ...! Well ... I dunno ...
all of that turned into: Ohmygod the man is James Bond!
    Let's see why ...,

    1. His intelligence and nuances - let's just say his very fine acting talent. He shows layers, depths, complexity, can change quickly, and is simply a superb actor. If he didn't deliver, with sincere realism and belief in him being James Bond, Casino Royale would have sunk within the first 20 minutes for sure. Or quicker. So hand in hand with that high caliber of acting I credit his personal strength and determination in taking this on and giving his all, right from the very start.

    2. His physicality - the way he carries himself, his confidence, and for sure his physical capabilities in fights, chases, etc. - all of that

    3. His humor, the way he handles humor. Very nice, well done, not over the top, subtle and clever.

    4. His chemistry with, and support of, his co-stars. He seems to be an "actor's actor" who brings out the best in others.

    5. His charisma; he is so believable and sexy (and his lovely blues eyes aren't bad either)
  • edited October 2013 Posts: 418
    5. His toughness.

    4. His physique - particularly in Casino Royale.

    3. His 'realness'. I find him totally believable and convincing in the role, and in the action scenes.

    2. His dry humour.

    1. His on screen chemistry with a lot of his co starts, especially Judi Dench and Eva Green.

    1. He takes no s**t.
    2. He is Fleming's Bond for the 21st Century.
    3. He drinks like a fish.
    4. He's married to an ultimate Bond girl (and she hasn't even been in one of his movies yet).
    5. His dry wit.

I've missed the other actors' lists but let me start with one of the best:

    5. His humor
    4. His loyalty
    3. His contemptuous attitude towards the villains
    2. His toughness
    1. His intensity: fighting, drinking or loving
  • edited October 2013 Posts: 2,402
Of course I need to weigh in on this.

5: His emotional range. Daniel Craig is truly a human actor. I can't help but wonder if he's a method actor because you really get the feeling that he's immersed in the characters he plays. When he's holding Vesper's body in his arms, I don't see James Bond crying; I see Daniel Craig crying.

4: His physicality. Craig is the Bond I would not want to piss off over all the others. It wouldn't end well.

3: His perfect balance. He has the suaveness of the cinematic Bond, the humour Bond fans love, and a pitch perfect adaptation of the literary Bond.

    2: Dat voice.

1: He brought Bond into the 21st century and will likely be responsible for the films and the character living into the 22nd. He's easily left just as monumental an impact on this series as Connery did.
