29/100
Decent peformance from DC, cleary a convincing actor but something just seems to be missing/lacking from the character.
Babes - 7/10
The two ladies are both very attractive but Bernice Marlohe is tragically underused for me. Naomi Harris does a decent job as Moneypenny.
Villans -5/10
After a promising first introduction to Silva, it all goes down hill with very little screentime and a bunch of cliched psycho stuff.
Humor - 6/10
Some nice touches of humor, loved the "latest thing from Q branch" line. The attempts at flirtatious banter between Bond and Eve were reminiscent of Bond and Jinx which was really poor.
Sadism - 6/10
A few bits here and there, with Silva and Severine.
Snobbery - 0/10
Can't really think of anything.
Action - 5/10
A pretty good chase in the PTS which was well done but not particulary original. Not much else really, a few duff punchups and the silly Home Alone finale.
Locations - 6/10
Nice to see a bit of London and the approach to the casino in Maccau was gorgeous.
Gadgets - 8/10
Not loads of gadgets but the ones featured were retro and lo-tech which worked for me.
Music - 7/10
The fact that the theme song was not terrible was a bonus but not much elses to say.
Overall a bit of dissapointment for me, something just lacking and no real excitment or sense of wonder to the action, but DC is doing good work and the setup at the end filled me with genuine excitment.
Bond - 10 (a very well rounded, commanding, and excellent performance by Craig)
Babes - 9 (10 if Severine had more screen time)
Villains - 10
Humor - 8 (my kind of humor)
Sadism - 4 (happy there was not much, more was implied)
Snobbery - 4 (not something I want really)
Action - 8
Locations - 9.5
Gadgets - 5
Music - 7
What does the category "tilt" mean? If it is how I think it will be viewed in the future, I give it : 10 out of 10
Shame there is not a supporting cast category. Anyway, this is my first time doing one of these. My extensive review of Skyfall is in the thread, "For Original Fans ..."
Bond - 7
Babes - 6
Villains - 7
Humor - 7
Sadism - 5 (not very much, not really needed in every film, and not in this one)
Snobbery - 5 (not there but not missed) (hence the neutral rating)
Action - 6
Locations - 6
Gadgets - 7
Overall - 8
Babes - 7, Marlohe is beautiful and a great actress too but under utilised.
Villains - 8, Bardem elevating the material with a brilliant performance.
Humour - 7, some lines are great ("put it all on red") some are awkward as hell ("health and safety")
Sadism - 8, the Macellan sequence is enough to warrant this.
Snobbery - 8, definitely the most snobbish of Craig's Bond flicks thus far.
Action - 7, aside from the PTS I didn't think there was a whole lot to go nuts over here.
Locations - 7, not the best if I'm being honest. The lack of location shooting didn't help.
Gadgets - 7, subtle but well done.
Music - 7, solid if unremarkable.
Tilt - 8, was originally a 9/10 (along with CR) when I saw it first but has dropped to an 8/10. I doubt it'll go much lower (definitely not below a 7) but time will tell.
Overall - 8/10
- Babes: 8/10. Marlohe is hot. But the category is plural :-(
- Villains: 10/10 Silva is a classic Bond villain
- Humour: 9/10. It's there: littl nuggets, expressions. Bond's irritation at Q sitting next to him; Silva's exasperation at Bond shooting up the the ice. Good stuff.
- Sadism: 8/10. Bullets and razorblades...Bond entrusts Eve with the cutthroat razor. he also manages to do a shot with a scorpion on his hand.
- Snobbery: 7/10. From Mallory, at first. "Don't cock it up."
- Action: 7/10. Patrice vs Bond (twice).
- Locations: 10/10. Shanghai is its own character in this film.
- Gadgets: 5/10. This category could be de-emphasized for SF.
- Music: 10/10. Newman's score is classic. Adele's theme song is brilliant.
- Tilt: 9/10. Goosebumps moments: reveal of the DB5 and Moneypenny and the new M.
Average: 8.45/10
