What do you want from Billie Eilish's NTTD's title song?

Whether the title song is good are bad I am not that bothered at this point, IMO there have only been two truly great title songs since 1995. The title track for NTTD can't possibly be worse than the last one so that's one positive.

If NTTD is a good film that's a bonus, I am pretty much done with the DC arc now and looking forward to Bond 26 and hopefully new beginnings. The DC films have possibly hit a creative brick wall with the arc already, I hope I am wrong.

I haven't heard about Billie Eilish, but quite frankly, that doesn't really distinguish her from most of the other "recent" artists who did Bond songs. Of those since TWINE (included) I knew only Adele and Madonna, and liked neither, but that's about it. So I'm not judging Billie What's-her-name in advance, but am afraid it's going to be anoher vapid, stunt-casting bow to supposed current tastes, rather than something that might elevate the movie to higher levels as it used to be during the classic days which I'd say ended with Moonraker, or at worst GoldenEye.

The beautiful thing about living in the past is that I have no clue who any of these young “artists” are these days. So I couldn’t be any more neutral on this topic.
If it were up to me I’d bring back someone like Shirley Bassey or Duran Duran or a-ha. I don’t even care if they’re over the hill or not. I’d still prefer them any day over whoever is the flavor of the month these days. But that’s just me. I know the producers don’t and won’t go for that. Oh well.

People say Bassey, and great though she is it’s hard to compare hers and Dionne Warwick’s versions of Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and think Shirley’s is the best. She’s not the be all and end all.

Ah, like someone like Carly Simon or Paul McCartney or Duran Duran or Tom Jones or John Barry you mean? Curse those supposed current tastes.

I bet some 'underneathe the mango tree' and 'jump up' purists hated it when Bassey was announced for GF.

Highly improbable, though, despite the fact I know what you're trying to say here. In truth, I bet no one even cared about who was singing the next Bong song until they heard Bassey's belter on the radio. It was only after this benchmark that people started to take notice.

Yeah, but what exactly has that got to do with the price of fish? Neither version was deemed good enough to grace the actual movie, so it's not even worth comparing them as both versions were locked away in the music vaults until they surfaced some 30 years later as extras on an anniversary album. The only thing heard of Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in TB is the instrumental version by Barry.
All I can say is my expectations are pretty low going in to this Bond film, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised when I watch the film.
I know what you mean. I had high hopes when Fukunaga was first announced, but as things have slowly progressed I've grown somewhat disenchanted with B25. Now I'm at the point where I'm not particularly fussed either way how this movie turns out. Maybe I'll also be pleasantly surprised when it eventually hits the theatres, but I won't be holding my breath, that's for damn sure.

I won't give my judgement on Billie Eilish's song until I hear it, but I'm getting a similar vibe as the one I got when I first heard Sam Smith's involvement with B24. I hope she has something in her locker to prove me wrong.

Exactly what I said: she’s not the be all and end all. Other people can do the job as good or better: they just need the chance. All of this ‘get Bassey’ stuff is rather tired thinking.
The only reason they weren’t in the film was because they wanted a song named after the film and the song wasn’t good enough.

With the exception of the news of Zimmer doing the score, there hasn't been much that has excited me with this film.

    1) The trailer felt like this was going to be SPECTRE 2. More of the same from where we last left off. Great news if you loved SP, bad news if you were hoping for another CR.

    2) The interviews in Empire magazine with some of the actors sound just like every Bond film post Cubby - strong females up against Bond, personal angst for Bond (again), etc.

    3) The choice of artist for the song. I bet right here, right now, that this song will rival QoS and DAD as one of the worst songs of the franchise. The writings on the wall...

    4) I think its fairly obvious now that the unused Fleming books are still being untouched and ignored, instead opting for P&W to give us yet another `original' story that will rehash everything we've seen in the Brosnan and Craig era - lots of personal angst and female power struggles. Throw in the Aston Martin DB5 and retro gadgets for good measure.

A reboot with a new actor can't come quick enough for me. Its the one time EON throw out all the stops and try to revert back to basics again.

Like I said, my expectations are fairly low for this film, so I may be in for a surprise...

What are the unused Fleming novels that you’re referencing?

People want the naff brainwashing bits from TMWTGG used, plus bits and pieces from TSWLM etc. It’s mostly dregs, although there might be a couple of bonkers bits from YOLT worth recycling. Most of it isn’t great though.

This says more about your own pop culture awareness than NTTD or Billie Eilish. What exactly would you do to “ elevate the movie to higher levels?”

Let’s look at the Craig era stats:

Casino Royale becomes the highest grossing Bond film up to that point, as well as, the best reviewed film of that year on Rotten Tomatoes. Craig is nominated for a BAFTA.

The Bond series is honored with a special recognition award from the National Movie Awards in 2007.

Quantum of Solace breaks the UK’s opening weekend record, and has the biggest opening weekend of the series in the US.

Bond ”escorts“ Queen Elizabeth II to the Olympic Stadium in a telecast watched by 900 million people.

Skyfall grosses $300 million in the US and over 1 billion worldwide. It’s the second highest grossing film of 2012 and the highest grossing film in U.K. history up to that point. Skyfall wins multiple awards, including two Oscars and Outstanding British Film at the BAFTAs.

Spectre becomes the third highest grossing film in the UK. It wins the Oscar for Best Song and “Writing’s on the Wall” becomes the first Bond title song to hit number one on the UK Singles Chart.

No Time To Die is one of the most anticipated films of 2020. One of the biggest selling pop acts in the world will perform the title song, and one of the most prolific film composers of the last twenty years is providing the musical score. Also, the villain is being played by a highly sought after Oscar winner.

So, I ask again, what would you do to “elevate the movie to higher levels?”

Being an old git I hadn’t heard of her, but I’m catching up fast on Amazon music. And I think she’s perfect. Her style will suit a contemporary Bond film without disrespecting the history of the franchise ( unlike Madonna). I may be wrong but I think she’s an inspired choice.

It will all depend on the song. She has a decent voice but will she and her brother deliver a tune of just some electro doodling? I actually quite like their stuff but Bond requires a melody.

Have to say I agree, the only thing that excited me is that Hans Zimmer is doing the soundtrack. But I disagree about the theme. Hearing Billie Eilish doing the theme has intrigued my interest again and brought me back to the forum.

Not in terms of musical style or facial resemblance.....but in terms of attitude, Eilish behaves a bit like Shirley Manson. And Manson herself once said she admires Eilish's work. Maybe we can expect Eilish's Bond theme to have the style of Garbage's 'The World Is Not Enough'.....since both women are all about 'the eccentric behaviour'.

There is one of Billie’s songs that reminds me of Utopia by Goldfrapp. So there is some hope of a sultry if slightly weird ballad.

Give me 007 playing a game of cards at Blades with M to outwit a cheat, being Brooklyn stomped on by football boots, rescuing a damsel in distress at a motel from Horror and Slugsy who work for the Spangled Mob, going after Shatterhand in his garden of death, being brainwashed and returning to London to kill M, going undercover as Mark Hazard in Jamaica, rather than the crap P&W have given us over the years. Blofeld as a brother...? You think that is better?

No need to answer. The fact that you think a brainwashed Bond trying to kill M is `naff' speaks volumes about your taste.... ;)

No need to try and get personal: be civil and don’t try and bait.
It is pretty naff. It’s more Man From UNCLE than Bond, and Bond can be pretty silly. We haven’t had the giant squid fight and bird guano death from Dr No either, don’t forget
    ;)

    .

I think the brainwashed Bond would be brilliant (if done correctly), but yes the giant squid fight would be naff. I agree with you there. ;)

Yes!...exactly. 'The Sultry & Weird Female'....it looks like that's the approach Eilish is likely to take or has already taken. And i can't really remember the Eilish's song too....but Goldfrapp's 'Utopia' can easily walk into a Bond film....it has this Bjork feel about it. And Bjork like Eilish is also an eccentric female....especially when she was younger. Coz there are some Bjork songs & videos that did look unconventional. But Bjork looked liked someone who would have done a Bond song in the 90s. Her Modern Rendition of 'YOLT' was Good. Eilish's track could well please old & new fans....coz I know how quick we Bond fans change our minds....when we feel good.

People say Bassey, and great though she is it’s hard to compare hers and Dionne Warwick’s versions of Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and think Shirley’s is the best. She’s not the be all and end all.
Yeah, but what exactly has that got to do with the price of fish?

Exactly what I said: she’s not the be all and end all. Other people can do the job as good or better: they just need the chance. All of this ‘get Bassey’ stuff is rather tired thinking.
The only reason they weren’t in the film was because they wanted a song named after the film and the song wasn’t good enough.
Though I agree in part with what you're saying about Dame Shirley—yes, I do agree that she's no longer relevant enough for present day Bond audiences—that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm enamoured by Billie Eilish as the new performer. Quite what an 18 year-old girl has to say about a 51 year-old man isn't something I'm particularly interested in hearing at the start of a Bond movie, plus it sort of flies in the face of their so-called #MeToo stance. They got away with it with Adele as she comes over as a much older woman with a more seasoned outlook on life which just so happened to tap into an older audience as well as appealing to a young one. I cannot say the same about young Miss Eilish who only seems to appeal to the "yoof market" and those experiencing a midlife crisis who still want to appear down with the kids. Secondly, Eilish is an American singer, so it's obvious that they've abandoned the previous British perspective that served them well on the last two movies. No Oscar this time, folks.

Personally, I think the performer needs to be more age appropriate—preferably British—and relatable to Bond, same goes for his leading ladies. It's indeed strange, when I suggested Ariana Grande many pages ago, everyone said that she was far too young (at 26) to be singing about Bond. But now that we've got a teenager performing Bond 25, that train of thought has gone totally out of the window. Go figure.

I'm happy with the choice of Billie Eilish. She's talented, her music is dark and I think it's the right kind of sound. My kids love her too!

Give it a shot I say.

I was a little dubious about Billie Eilish until I saw an acoustic cover of Michael Jackson's Bad. She has an amazing set of pipes. There'll always be those that are resistive to change or progression in the series, but I'm on EoN's side with this. I think we're in for a cracker all round.

I wonder if there is room in the soundtrack for an extra song by Billie or Hans for the scene in the
    nightclub
