Mmmm, 'At World's End' didn't look near as funny to me in the trailer as the other two films. Why do they call this a trilogy when the other two films had nothing to do with each other except for starring the same two guys?

'Eyes Wide Shut' is an excellent film. I love Kubrick.

I saw Elysium. I definitely enjoyed it but the action was shot too up close. I thought Hollywood was finally moving away from this sort of thing. The story was kind of predictable and it reminded me of other films I've seen but I still thought it was an entertaining film and I'm glad I went. What I wish I had have seen more of were some scenes involving local inhabitants on Elysium. Some dialogue regarding their thoughts of earth and the ludicrous immigration laws would have been good. Elysium was so perfectly manicured and surreal looking. I wish we had have seen more of it.

@Bounine, it's the Cornetto trilogy/Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, and I think Wikipedia gives a fair explanation:

"Each film in the trilogy is connected to a Cornetto ice cream, with a Cornetto of the appropriate flavour appearing in each film. Shaun of the Dead features a strawberry-flavoured Cornetto, which signifies the film's bloody and gory elements, Hot Fuzz includes the blue original Cornetto, to signify the police element to the film, and The World's End features the green mint chocolate chip flavour in a nod to aliens and science fiction."

Christ I feel dumb - even for someone who likes action movies. There are a couple of funny moments but after a while the constant gunfire and cheesey lines become annoying.

It's a bit better than Die Hard 5 though.

    4.5/10
Felt exactly the same way. I just think these Expendables films take themselves way too seriously, so when a cheesy line comes along it is just painful rather than cute. They can still be violent, but my God, they need to lighten up. (For example, Hemsworth's meaningless backstory about his girlfriend back home - the filmmakers need to wake up. This is not Pride and Prejudice - NO ONE CARES ABOUT EMOTION OR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT WHEN THEY GO SEE THE EXPENDABLES 2.) I think if the Expendables movies treated themselves more like Men in Black, they would be a lot better. (And all this forced emotion garbage would be easier on all of our stomachs.)

And 'A Good Day to Die Hard' belongs right next to Speed 2 and Batman and Robin. Certainly one of the worst action sequels in history. It spits right in the face of Die Hard fans.

@SJK91. Also the crap with the young pretty boy sniper who you KNEW wasn't going to survive. The EXACT same thing happened in The Last Stand.

-Youngster has deep meaningful conversation with old timer while drinking a beer.

-Youngster is killed and old timer looks angry.

-Film ends with victorious heroes toasting their fallen friend.

That said I don't think Expendables took itself that seriously at all despite the "character development". Most of it was just action/fight/cheesy lines/forced nostalgia. The character stuff was just thrown in as an extra.

For Christ sake Chuck Norris's entrance is signalled by The Good the Bad and The Ugly theme...twice :))

Maybe the reason I find the cheesy lines annoying is because I've grown up a bit..,or because the older films just do them better and don't shove them down your throat.

Arnie already said "I'm back" in T3 11 years ago too. That line is old.

I though the first one took itself too seriously but the second one amended that. I'm nor sure why the actor playing the sniper deserved to be in the film but I was happy that he died so soon, and his death was pretty cool.

    A bit?! I'd say it's a lot better.

Objectively as a film I'd say it's about a 7/10 but the fanboy in me would give it a 9 or 10 for the last act alone.

Yeah but T3 was a terrible film and a massive disappointment while Expendables 2 is a lovely tribute to all of their careers, so the line made sense.

The funniest "bad" lines (for me) were in the opening five minutes:

    "I need a weapon...something BIG...YOURS!!"
"My big weapon is hanging right where it is"

"If I don't get this (gun) back...your ass is terminated"
    (Arnie) In your dreams"

    Sooo terrible yet hilarious
    =))

After that they got a bit irritating.

Notorious entry in the Eurospy genre. Fascinating to watch for its connections to the Bond series: Sean Connery's brother Neil as the hero, FRWL's Daniela Bianchi as the main girl and looking very good with her hair long, TB's Adolfo Celi as the main villain, DN's Anthony Dawson as the secondary villain, Bernard Lee as the boss and Lois Maxwell as the boss' secretary called Miss Maxwell. However, don't expect anything remotely resembling a good movie. In terms MajorDSmythe would understand, I think I've found a Bond knockoff I'd rank lower than "Some Girls Do." In my book, SGD and OKB currently battle it out for the rust standard for Bond knockoffs while DTTM is the gold standard and the Flint films are the silver one.

The title song is an irresistible bit of cheese:

Sidenote: I bet Lois Maxwell probably appreciated the fact that her "Miss Maxwell" character got to get more into the action here than her "Miss Moneypenny" ever did in the official Bond series.

Oh okay. LOL. Seems crazy to call it a trilogy just because of this.

I think that's all rather cool. It's a much better idea than coming up with some unimaginative name for the films and putting just a 1, 2, and 3 after it like we commonly see today.

The Cornetto trilogy was always an unofficial title anyway it was only with this film they've used it so much, I think the phrase might have been coined by fans and not necessarily Edgar or Simon.

Last film I saw was, we're the Millers. I find a lot of comedy movies to be garbage these days but this movie was great fun and had me laughing a great deal. Also, Jennifer Aniston's body looks incredible

    Enjoy-

  • Star trek into darkness - Enjoyed the ride, great visuals, admittedly if you stop and think about it too much there are holes. Though it pretty frantic and has some great moments. Being a fan of Trek happy it is still on going. Looks great on Bluray.

I had to go and see 'You're Next' again. I can't get over how unique and fantastic this film was. If you enjoy horror/thrillers, you have to check this out.

EDIT: Watched the original 'Halloween' a few nights ago, and decided to continue with 'Halloween 2.' These two films paired together are just an unstoppable force of horror perfection. They rarely make horror films like this these days.

I had to watch the original after re-watching the remake and noticing that it's just a big gory bloodfest the entire time. No real scares or thrills, and it had horrible pacing.

The last of Hammer's Frankenstein series, had it's Horror Channel premiere last night. This was the first time that I have watched this one and I don't know why it's taken me this long to get around to it. Despite reading a lot of negativity towards this one, I liked this final chapter in the series, especially how the end of the film leaves the door open for another film. Cushing looking though worryingly gaunt and frail, is still his usual consummate professional self, and even gets to perform his own stunt, albeit a brief one.

I like this one very much, @MajorDSmythe, if for no other reason because of the lovely Madeline Smith. ;-) I like Fisher's directing and Cushing's acting. I still prefer Frankenstein Created Woman in this series though. ;-)

I tricked my Dad into taking me to the theatre for that one; I told him it was okay for kids (I was seven). Boy was he shocked.

    Death Proof 2007

Wow. This could be the worst movie I have ever seen. I may not have loved all of Tarantino's films but they have never insulted me before tonight. Loads of pointless dialogue from characters I wasn't interested in the slightest. Kurt Russel's semi fascinating Stuntman Mike was lost in the background. I felt no sympathy for the "victims". Indeed I was pulling for Stuntman Mike to kill them because they were so obnoxious. This was everything that I hated about Quentin all wrapped into one. Please don't insult your intelligence and watch this movie.

Would that have anything to do with Susan Denberg, Dimi? ;) I'm looking at my Hammer:Frankenstein collection, right now, and Frankenstein Created Woman is still sealed. I don't recall seeing this one. So I shall have to watch it soon, and then try and rank the series, like I did with Hammer's Dracula films (HORROR took the top spot, with SATANIC in 2nd place).
  • World War Z

It was OK but ultimately I was left underwhelmed, mainly because it's ending was quite abrupt.

I think the ending they went with was better than what they originally planned - more suspense, it wasn't as grim as the original ending, etc. - but I, too, feel like it stops somewhat abruptly.

A movie that seems to have been forgotten by many:

    istanbul_errol_flynn_joseph_pevney_006_jpg_uufa.jpg

There were Bond movie knockoffs. Why not Bogie movie knockoffs? This is my favorite Casablanca imitation replete with Ingrid Bergman-lookalike Cornell Borchers as the leading lady and Nat "King" Cole doing his version of Dooley Wilson's Sam character. Cole's hit "When I Fall In Love" stands in for "As Time Goes By". Shot in gorgeous Technicolor and CinemaScope showing off Istanbul beautifully 7 years prior to FRWL.

Istanbul's story is essentially a combination of the aforementioned 1943 Oscar Winner and a lesser known 1947 film noir called Singapore with Fred MacMurray and Ava Gardner. Errol Flynn plays a pilot/smuggler/adventurer who returns to Istanbul in order to recover a cache of diamonds he left behind 5 years earlier only to find the woman he thought was dead is very much alive. Bond veteran Martin Benson(GF's Mr. Solo) plays a Turkish underworld figure while Leif Erickson and Peggy Knudsen provide comic relief as a squabbling couple of American tourists. If you're a fan of Flynn, Cole, Turkey or Casablanca it's worth catching.

    *** out of ****.

  • Woman in black - Enjoyed this film quite eerie. The locations and set were very good, the performances are understated which serve the film well.

Iron Man 3 - Wow this film was bad.
