    The guest.

Absurd but gloriously entertaining. I can see Dan Stevens taking over the Bond character once Craig is done.

@DaltonCraig007, you're in for some other kind of fun now. :) It's Renny Harlin time with Nightmare 4. Some hate this film, I'm quite fond of it. It also features Lisa Wilcox, whom I actually quite like as a "Freddy girl". :D

Machete is great fun, Machete Kills goes that step further and then some. You will enjoy it if you liked the first movie.

Yeah, I like the sequel. I saw it when it came out last October. I hadn't seen the first one since it came out though. I'm glad you enjoy these movies as well.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) I agree with you, @DarthDimi, I quite liked this film! Kincaid is awesome, and the story was quite crazy at the start and end of the movie :) Also, I did like Die Hard 2 so I must be ok with Renny Harlin :D

A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) Wow, this movie was so crazy! The scene with the nurse locked up with all those male inmates was surreal! I really liked it :)

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) My least favorite, because of too much nonsense with the Telekinisis girl. A big shame since Jason looked sooo badass in this outing :(

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan Liked it, a bit OTT in parts (Jason 'killed' by the toxic waste while the girl and guy escaped without a scratch even though they were breathing tons of toxic waste) but a good film. Not my favorite of the franchise but it was ok :) But it really didn't look like New-York at all. :D

I'm one of the few who can appreciate Nightmare 5 very much. I also like the Esher inspired climax. Lisa Wilcox is fairly impressive and Englund rocks. I'm not sure how you will feel about part 6 though. It's my least favourite though it has two interesting bits I think. A) it was part of the Twin Peaks hype of the times, and B) I really like the idea of retracing Freddy's days before he became the Springwood Slasher. :)

Jason Takes Manhattan is crazy. If only they could have come true to the title. It would have been awesome.

That's a shame, Tina is my favourite of the series' final girls.

Yes, the end is a let down. Kane Hodder loathed the ending to Jason Takes Manhattan. He tried to have it changed, but failed. So when the next film rolled around, he was doubly determined to make sure that no reference was made to the ending of the preceding film. The series best opening is up next. B-)

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) @DarthDimi, I didn't like this one. Too OTT. Like the bit with the video game, I'm sure I'd have loved it as a kid but I was cringing during that scene. I think this one goes on the bottom of my 'Nightmare' ranking. :) But I geeked out when I saw Kananga :D

Oh wow, @Major, I thought she was pretty but I kind of got annoyed by her after a while, I'm sorry to say.

I remember seeing Jason Goes to Hell on VHS not long after it came out- I watched the insane opening and thought any second it would be revealed to be a bunch of guys shooting a movie. Just like Johnny Cage's intro in the Mortal Kombat movie, lol. Actually the end of Part VIII only made it seem that much more likely (how did Jason get back to Crystal Lake?).

But no, they were dead serious.
JGTH isn't an awful movie but it's a damn same they ad so much 'body-hopping'. I wanted the REAL Jason damnit

I can honestly say that I have never heard, or read, an official explanation of what happened between Jason Takes Manhattan & Jason Goes To Hell. Other than the back story with Jason killing Creighton Duke's wife, what happened between films is anyone's guess.

Like many of Rodriguez films, Planet Terror is worth a look if you not seen it.

    In Machete kills
Mel Gibson was good value, reminded me of Hugo Drax with his scheme, liked the Star Wars references too.

Yeah, I remember Rodriguez saying that his favorite Bond films were from the Moore era. Reporters even stated that Machete was like a Mexican James Bond. I like that concept.

I haven't seen Planet Terror yet, but I've seen almost all of his films.

    Shame

It's great, of course it's great. Fassbender and the rest of the cast are phenomenal, and the cinematography is probably the best of McQueen's three films. It's a very odd film though, and I'm not sure there's much of a plot other than Sissy's storyline. Are we to believe, by his failure to flirt with the woman on the subway at the end, that Sissy's suicide attempt was really enough to completely change the sexual habits of a man who, the night before, had groped another man's girlfriend at a bar and, hours later - if even that long - proceeded to go to a gay sex club?

There are a lot of things about Shame that prod me to dislike it, and yet I don't really find myself bothered by any of them. I love this film. I wish I had time to talk more about it.

    9/10

Charles Bronson is good as usual in this very good film. One of his best....

Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) Mixed feelings. On the one hand the story is great, the film is very self-aware of it's own universe. Freddy looks epic in it.. but it takes too long to get going. I think the longer runtime than usual hurts the film. But the film is a huge mind**** :-O

Halloween H20: 20 Years On (1998) A letdown. The film disregards what happens in part 4,5,6. Nothing really happens. I was sad that they killed Joseph Gordon Levitt so fast, because I really like this actor. And Jamie Lee Curtis' hairstyle is awful. Short hair doesn't work on women (like Jinx in DAD).

Halloween: Resurrection (2002) Awful. Simply awful. Story is ridiculously dumb, the actors are all retarded - with Busta Rhymes being the most annoying guy ever! Really, the less said about this film, the better.

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (1993) Awesome opening, then it kind of gets a too OTT for my taste :( I didn't like all the shape-shifting stuff about Jason, since IMO zombie Jason is his most badass look.

I actually really like New Nightmare. Freddy looked awesome and the film was really different and creative which is pretty unusual for a slasher sequel. It might be my favourite of the Elm Street sequels (I think the original is the best).

Yeah, @thelivingroyal, the film is very original for a sequel. I've never seen a sequel so self-aware of it's own universe.

Het lijk in de Haarlemer Houttuinen (1979) based upon the novel by Janwillem van de Wetering (English title Outsider in Amsterdam) starring Rutger Hauer & Rijk de Gooyer, along side a large amount of Dutch stars among them Willeke van Ammerooy who played the lead in a later Oscar winning movie.

A story about a suspicious dead that warrants a closer look by detectives Grijpstra & de Gier. The movie like the book has a certain casualness about it so is fairly faithful to the source novel.
Another Grijpstra & de Gier, De ratelrat. was made with only de Gooyer reprising his role and Hauer being off on his international carreer.
The third movie with these gents is a German production called the Blond Baboon, of course in German.

It is a fairly succesfull and funny movieeven if the movie comes in at 71 minutes it is weel worth your time.
The TV show of 4 seasons is poor compared with the two previous cinema attempts.

There are parts of the film that even I can't defend, like the shaving scene, what the hell was that about? Did you watch the Rated or Unrated cut of Jason Goes To Hell, @DaltonCraig007? Once you watch the latter, I don't think it's possible to then watch the former, I know that I haven't.

@DaltonCraig007, New Nightmare had potential but shows how poor a story teller Wes Craven actually is.

Halloween H2O, IMO, is good material. Disregarding everything after 2 is not such a bad way to do things I think. There was never any chance of making another one in that short canon after Jaimie was taken from us.

And the ending of H2O rocks! Resurrection, however, is just poor. It's my least favourite in the series.

Yes @DarthDimi I liekd the endinf to H20!

Jason X (2001) Erm...??? Sci-fi F13 movie! :-O I'm always a sucker for horror movies in confined space, especially in sci-fi movies, so I really liked this one. Special effects were a bit dodgy, but overall a fun movie!

H20 is a bad movie, no doubt about it. But it does get some credit as being the one movie to introduce me to the whole series! I was 15 years old when I saw the trailer on TV and thought 'wow that looks so cool!' I saw it opening night and probably 5 more times at Halloween parties and gatherings.
H20 was the scary movie of 1998, similar to 2002's The Ring. Everyone was playing it at Halloween parties and things. Of course, that led me to watch all the other ones (which I had no idea existed) starting with part 1

    - the constantly changing look of Michael's mask was distracting - and the eventual one that gets used the most looks dumb.. the original mask they were going to use is briefly seen at the beginning of the movie when he's attacking the nurse - it looks similar to one used in the previous film (Part 6).. the CGI mask is atrocious... i mean honestly, what possessed Miner to say "yeah, lets just CGI the mask in there".. i would've either just cut that scene short - or found a way to reshoot it - either way probably would've been more cost effective than hiring a guy to slave at a computer with 1997 technology to create a CGI Michael Myers mask.
There's kind of an interesting story behind that, all stemming from this guy andthat guy having problems with the mask. Here's a snippet from another Horror forum:
    Thornh20.jpg
    1. The Buechler Mask.
In an effort to stay consistent from one film to the next (finally!) FX artist John Carl Buechler was brought in with a copy of the mask worn by George Wilbur in Halloween 6, cast from the original H6 mold. Very little changes were made aside from a somewhat brighter paint job. The mask was used in the opening sequence featuring The Shape stalking Nurse Chambers, when director Steve Miner suddenly decided he didn't like the look of it. But the sequence was apparently forgotten about during the film's extensive re-shoots, so the mask, and the first of several inconsistencies, is on full display in the opening ten minutes of the film.
    mask1_03.jpg
    2. The KNB mask.
For the new mask, Miner had the boys at KNB FX create one which fit Miner's own vision of what The Shape should look like. The face is less detailed and sleeker, with larger eye-holes, "flaired" nostrils and a more restrained wig. But this time it was star Jamie Lee Curtis who had a problem with the mask, a sentiment echoed by an executive who during a screening of dailies stood up and proclaimed, "That doesn't look like Michael Myers." However by this point a large percentage of the film had already been shot. The mask was featured prominently in the original theatrical trailer (most notably the shot of The Shape looking at Lori through the circular window) and can be seen in numerous wide shots in the film, as well as during the scene where The Shape attempts to break through the gate to get to Josh Hartnett and Michelle Williams, and when Jamie Lee Curtis impales The Shape with a flagpole during the climactic showdown.

    h20_06.jpg
    3. The Winston mask.
Finally, master FX artist Stan Winston was brought in to construct a happy medium that would please Curtis, Miner and Dimension. But even this mask has its glitches, most notably the fact that unlike previous Shape masks, there's no black gauze to hide the actor's eyes. And because of the cut of the eye-holes, they often leave the actor portraying him looking cross-eyed, a fact most humorously noticeable during the sequence where Jamie Lee Curtis knees The Shape in the misters. This is the mask which is seen the most throughout the film, and was used during all the re-shoots.

    badmask.jpg
    4. The infamous CGI mask
During re-shoots with the Winston mask, the production was unable to secure the original location where this particular scene was shot (when The Shape kills Charlie in the kitchen), so rather than dump it altogether, a digital artist was tasked to paint a new face over the footage of the KNB mask originally used in the scene in an effort to make it more closely resemble the Winston mask. But does that look like anything like the Winston mask to you? Anything at all? Of course it doesn't! It looks like a really shitty, unconvincing CGI job! Which begs the question, why did they leave it in? Beats the hell out of me, but I stopped trying to rationalize Hollywood a long time ago.

And there you have it! FOUR damn masks in H20-- only one of which was any good IMO.

And here's this again once more for good measure:

    myerscgi.jpg

    *Edit--
Oh yeah, I've also got this bad boy on display at my house!

    photo_zps64c130c5.jpg
  • I've seen H20 several times and I've never noticed the different masks before (shows how much attention I was paying to the movie!).

Have to say, that is really piss poor, sloppy film making from both the Director and the studio.
  • Interesting fact regarding Michael Myers mask in Halloween, not sure if this has been mentioned. The mask is a captain Kirk mask sprayed white.

I would say so, yes. The biggest different is the couple having sex in the tent. In the unrated cut, it is, by quite a margin, the most brutal kill in the series.
