How does it look on bluray? My DVD may as well be an old VHS- it looks terrible!

I CANNOT recommend these two Blu Rays high enough.
Unless you are a squid.
I'll have to get that bluray- perhaps Amazon has it?

Second time, just as amazingly fun. :-bd
Pierce Brosnan's return to the spy genre after 12 years is an entertaining actioner in the 'Taken' mold. Pierce is in fine form as Peter Devereaux, a retired CIA operative called back into service to extract a Russian operative and former lover who has information on a high ranking Russian govt. official. Olga Kurylenko also stars. I enjoyed it much more than I did in the theatre (my only previous watch). It works well on the small screen because there is a little bit of 'tv movie' aspect to it, but the action and fast pace keeps it interesting throughout. Hoping for a sequel.
Absolute Power (1997)
Clint Eastwood directed thriller also starring Gene Hackman, Judy Davis, Laura Linney & Ed Harris. There were a few 'White House' controversy thrillers that came out around this time, including 'Murder at 1600' starring Wesley Snipes and 'Shadow Conspiracy' starring Charlie Sheen - Hollywood is nothing if not predictable. Having said that, this is a very enjoyable and well paced film, in the 'No Way Out' mold, with Hackman channeling his character from that film to a tee. I just noticed today that Dennis Haysbert and Penny Johnson Jerald are in this film, and they both went on to play husband and wife in 24. I wonder if their performances here caught the attention of the directors of that show. Recommended.
The Juror (1996)
Demi Moore, Alec Baldwin, Anne Heche & James Gandofini star in this mid-1990's predictable thriller about a juror whose family is threatened by the mob to persuade her to sway the decision. Baldwin plays the 'hitman' called in to do the convincing. A bit slow paced and dull, but worth a watch if you have nothing else to do. This is the 2nd film I've seen in so many weeks that stars a current star as a youngster. The first was 'Just Cause' which starred a young Scarlett Johansson, and this film stars a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the protagonist's daughter.
Hold the presses. Forget everything about Bond, Bourne, Taken, Crank, Equalizer, John Wick, Kingsman, Mission Impossible, Rambo, Mad Max and whatnot. Why? Because 'Hardcore Henry' blows them out of the water and into Mars' orbit. Seriously, holy f*cking shit. This is a dream action film for any fan of the genre. Ever wondered what playing 'Goldeneye 007' on the N64 looks like in real life? Ever wondered how the tank chase in GE would look from a FPS perspective? This movie is for you.
The film is basically 90 minutes of insane and batshit-crazy chases, gunfights and fistfights. What the fuck, how can Hollywood (since this is a Russian film) be credible in the action movie genre anymore? There's a bigger killcount in this film alone than in all the Liam Neeson films or Jason Statham films put together. Hell, I'm pretty sure the killcount in Hardcore Henry is close to 250 or so. There's an attack scene in an abandoned building where a good 50 or more goons get bazooka-ed, machine gunned , sniped, etc.
'The Raid' and 'The Raid 2' are the only movie that are as good as this. Sure the plot is stupid but it's just pure action porn that I never thought it could ever be done in a motion picture. If I could I'd go see it again atleast 2 more times today.
I was sure there was no way 'Mad Max Fury Road' would be beaten in the action department for a long time. Looks like it took a year and some crazy russians to make an even bigger action extravaganza. Well done, now who's going to dare going even further? Apart from Gareth Evans when he'll make 'The Raid 3' of course.
I am counting on it.
The film is basically a 10 times gorier and action packed version of 'Taken' filmed in first-person perspective.
Hardcore is alright, I enjoyed it for what it is.
Actually at the end of the movie when
:))
Some kills are way OTT of course. Not sure this can rival Ninja Assassin 2009 though.
You haven't =0
Do you watch the marvel movies and other big blockbusters? Or is that not your cup of tea? Just wondering.
The level of gore seems a bit tame compared to the horror of nowadays (which I'm not exactly up to date on), but it must've been shocking for its time. I've only seen the 1931 version once, so my judgment may not be completely faultless, but I much prefer the 1958 Dracula. I think I actually like Bela Lugosi's take on the character more than Christopher Lee's (they're both brilliant), but Peter Cushing's Van Helsing is far, far better than Edward Van Sloan's (I had to search him up for the name, forgettable performance). And since in 1931, they were still getting out of the silent era, there was a lot of that overacting still hanging around, which isn't the case in the 1958 one.
While the production quality would've been near-unparalleled for 1958, I think the 1931 Dracula comes off as more visually atmospheric - no doubt helped by the black-and-white rendition. However, it's the opposite for music- the 1931 version that I watched was the one with the Philip Glass score, and the 1958 version's score is much, much better and more atmospheric. I mean, the music when Van Helsing drives off Dracula in the 1931 version is completely out of place in a horror movie.
All the sequels of this one (with Christopher Lee) were pretty damn bad. Apparently Lee didn't speak in the next one(s) (I can't remember if he speaks in the later ones, but he definitely doesn't speak in Dracula: Prince of Darkness because the dialogue was terrible and hammy and deviated too much from Stoker's words. But if you play Dracula without speaking at all (and that was one of Lee's greatest strengths), he just feels... lessened. Like some sort of mindless monstrosity rather than Dracula.
Wow, Someone else who didn't like John Wick!
That has to be the most overrated pile of crap I've ever had the misfortune to see.
Made mindless violence boring. Surely a feat in itself?!!!
As of right now, the most batshit crazy action film for me is "Shoot Em Up" Good view to see how Clive Owen and Monica Belucci would have fared in a Bond film together if Owen would have played Bond.
And I've seen it 20 times before this. The more I watch it, the more I love it. You know? I've read the opinions of some people, saying "how different this is compared to the show", which couldn't be any further from the truth. I call it biased blindness. Sure, it's an explosive action adventure vehicle, but if an A-Team movie would've been made, obviously it was going to be action-packed and not slow-paced like the episodes of the show. The characters are updated yes, but they are extremely faithful to their TV series counterparts. It's crime not to make a sequel to this film... But, there already is a new TV series in the pipeline.
