Sadly, I haven't, and I've yet to see a single negative thing said about it on here, so it'll have to go to the front of my 'To Watch' list. Gotta check it out soon.

I'm pretty sure Duel was the first Spielberg movie I ever saw. I can't remember how old I was, but not very old, and I was riveted. It was many years later, when I had some idea who Spielberg was that I learned that was his as well.

Btw, it was fascinating to watch Spielberg's much later done interview on that dvd. I never realized he used some of the same stuff on Jaws, like, um, that certain sound effect. - I guess I need to re-watch Jaws now that I still remember that...

Jaws looks phenomenal on Bluray highly recommend, one of the best looking films I have ever seen. Thoroughly enjoy retrospective documentaries by directors, it is often fascinating hearing there thoughts decades later.

@fire_and_ice, agreed, the quality of the 'Jaws' blu-ray never fails to impress me.

@Creasy47 The early scenes with the light bouncing of the water with crystal clarity looks amazing.

Agreed. I'm a fan of the packed beach scenes, too, the detail and coloring really pops and stands out.

The first Spielberg movie I saw was 'Jurassic Park'. As a child I must have seen this film once a week for several years in a row. I didn't have a wide cinematic knowledge back then, I only had 'Wizard of Oz', 'Twister', 'The Mummy Returns', 'The Phantom Menace' and 'Jurassic Park' on VHS, so I alternated between these for several years before moving to France and discovering other stuff like Bond and Die Hard.

Hardcore Henry respectively just Hardcore in the German-language region

One of my favourite movies is Ninja Assassin, it belongs into the same category for me as other masterpieces like Ong Bak or The Way Of The Warrior.

I wondered if an even more brutal movie will ever come along than Ninja Assassin, that I will like.
Yesterday I wasn't sure if I like Hardcore Henry, but sleeping over it I realise how bloody fantastic it is, literally.

It's a roller-coaster ride of unthinkable proportions. The whole movie is like a First Person Shooter video game. The level of gore and blood is insane. The body count must be in the 200+'s.

I already pre-ordered the steelbook, it's out in July. @DaltonCraig007

Was lucky enough to watch the first Jurassic Park at the cinema, seeing the Diplodocus scene on a huge screen was one of those cinema moments you never forget... or were they Brachiosaurus :)

Duel is probably my favourite Spielberg film.Once watched, never forgotten. I always thought Spielberg a mixed bag of a Director. Just saw Minority Report the other night, hadn't seen it in a while. Good film, But still think he blew the ending. (Spoiler) It should have ended with Cruises character thinking the man he was to kill was the kidnapper of his child, but no, Spielberg had to have that extra scene, that it was all a set up. A pity. If he ended it where I said, it would have had more impact. Munich is brilliant too. Great performance from our Daniel, and stunning set-pieces

I saw it in theatre, too (in San Francisco...sigh... far more special than the movie...) Maybe I was too old by then or it just wasn't my cup of tea. Never had any interest in seeing the next one (never mind the ones that followed).

Very mixed bag. Duel is one of my faves, too.

I'll need to do some more re-watching. For instance, I don't think I've seen Schindler's List since its theatrical release, so, um, it's been a while. At the time I thought it was wonderful, apart from the ending, I'm curious to see what I'll think now. Need to re-watch Indy 1-3, too (won't bother with 4, that was sorta painful to watch even once), though I've last seen those some years ago. Empire OF The Sun is wonderful. Munich. Minority Report was pretty good. I need to re-watch Catch Me If You Can - I had no idea who Amy Adams even was when I first saw it, weird to think now... Tintin was quite fun. I guess I need to re-watch Saving Private Ryan since I distinctly remember not liking it when I saw it on release and it's supposed to be good. The rest... meh... Well, Bridge Of Spies surprised me by being pretty good, but I just saw it in December so no need to re-watch now.

Has any one got the Duel blu ray? Is it worth the upgrade from dvd?

I love that film and would really like it in my blu ray collection, but don't want to upgrade if the PQ is not noticeably better.

I'd say definitely. Mine is just so much prettier than any other previous version. The most recent DVD is top of the line though, so it depends on how sharp your eye is. Plus: the blu ray is widescreen (as it was shown overseas theatrically), and has a short scene that was cut out of the American TV version.

Great. Thanks @chrisisall. I'll get it for sure now. Widescreen alone makes it worth it.

You have to know the Blu-ray has fantastic picture quality!
But it is 1:85:1 aspect ratio, that decision was widely debated when it got released.
Also the US DVD (if I'm not mistaken) has the TV version which is 75 minutes.
The Blu-ray has the theatrical cut which is 89 minutes.

In my opinion, you should get the Blu-ray and keep the DVD as well. For nostalgic reasons I recently watched the (German) DVD, which as I said has the tv version in aspect ration 1:33 on it.

@bondjames, as I understand it, the 1:85 was done by using the complete image left to right. The top & bottom have been cropped almost unnoticeably. There's a shot where you can see Spielberg's reflection in the car window for a split second that you couldn't spot in the TV version because they didn't use the entire image.

    Just finished NINJA ASSASSINS 2009

After seeing Hardcore Henry yesterday, I felt like watching this today.

I've seen it a couple of times in 2009/2010.

Now imagine my total surprise when I realised that Naomie Harris is the female lead.
    I totally forgot that.

If you can stomach brutal slayings and want to see Moneypenny working as an Europol agent before she was hired by MI6 this movie is a must-see!

Yes, thanks @chrisisall, I noticed that. I was just on blu-ray.com looking at some screenshots (that's a great site to do some research before buying too) and it shows the almost imperceptible crop on the top and bottom. I like that.

Started watching The Martian, though ended up putting The Force Awakens on for fifth watch, this time with Collider commentary.

Think ill have to try and get Trancers, been some time. Remember the opening shot of San Angeles if I remember correctly submerged in the ocean.

Ordered first film, the UK art work on the Bluray is old skool, like it. HH should not have top billing.

    The Prestige (2006)
It's been a while since I've seen this film. One of the best with great performances from leads Christian Bale & Hugh Jackman, as well as stellar supporting cast members Michael Caine, Piper Perabo, Scarlett Johansson & Rebecca Hall.

Christopher Nolan's direction is crisp & tense. I don't care what anyone says, no flim maker from the past 20 years has continued to impress me each time with the sheer scale, ambition and execution of his film making as Nolan. He truly is a visionary.

Wally Pfister's cinematography is absolutely stunning. David Julyan's score is compelling.

I won't give anything away but for those who haven't seen it, get it and enjoy it. Superior film making here by a master at the top of his game.

Hey Darth, I got my BD of Sunshine, and the PIP commentary can't be switched off, research shows it's a problem with many discs... did you have to return a defective disc or did you get a good one first time out?

The Jungle Book (2016). I did enjoy it, particularly Christopher Walken as King Louie. Naturally, not as great as the '67 version (which I'm watching right now), but it was a nice trip to the theater.

Have you ever seen the 1942 version with Sabu as Mowglie? It uses live animals. Many people consider that the best. I'm torn between it and the '67 version.

I may watch the new one when it makes its way to home video (avoiding theatres as much as I can).

I actually have not seen that version! I love Disney animated classics in general though, and Jungle Book is in my Top 20. Such a fun movie. I would say the new one isn't quite as great as the critics would have you believe, but it's still worth a watch. Lots of things I liked.

In other news, The Killing Joke adaptation is officially R-rated! Figured it would be, but that's still big news. Can't wait for that film.

The 1942 version IS the best IMHO.
But the 1994 version is cool action.
This new one will no doubt freak my Wife & Son.
    :))
