Watching Time After Time (1979) for the first time. I'm overdue for a lighthearted feature, so this is perfect.
Saw it in the theatre a couple of times, then on VHS... a pleasant watch, to be sure.
San Fran, time travel, David Warner... the Trek connections abound!
    :D

It's very enjoyable. A shame Malcolm McDowell didn't have more quality films in his time. This is probably my second favorite after Clockwork Orange.
He was a a great bad guy in Blue Thunder....

    No Escape (2015)

Owen Wilson and his family are caught in a violent political uprising in Asia.

For the first hour or so I was gripped. However, from then on the film loses steam and becomes silly and schmaltzy.

Even Brosnan's character ends up being a cliché.

You don't like Jaws either. Your opinion is void ;)

    Civil War

Civil War is all that I hoped BvS would be. It really puts Snyder to shame. I'm even more upset now that I have seen what could have been.

I will see Civil War at least 3 to 5 times. Tonight is the second viewing :)

    Brooklyn (2015)
For some mysterious reason this never came to my home town. It was the only best picture nominee this year I hadn't seen yet. I made a little 2-day trip last week that gave me a chance to see it. A bit too cute and pretty, and the second romance wasn't even remotely believable. Still, not bad, and more fun than I expected. Saoirse Ronan is adorable as usual.

    Knight Of Cups (2015)
Said trip gave another chance to see this in theatre.

    Big Eyes (2014)
This just didn't work for me. I watched it for Amy Adams, and she was the best thing in it. The happy early period of the main characters' relationship never seemed believable to me, and I thought Christoph Waltz was awful in this. (I liked him in the 2 Tarantino movies, didn't like him in Spectre, and don't think I've seen him in anything else.) Watchable and mildly interesting, but I can't say I particularly liked this movie.

I decided to watch some Cillian Murphy movies. So...

    Red Eye (2005)
    A pretty standard, cliched thriller.

    Breakfast On Pluto (2005)
What a little gem this was. A great movie from Neil Jordan. I knew nothing about it in advance, and it kept surprising me on the way. Both comic and brutal, fun and touching. The cast is excellent in general (Liam Neeson, Ruth Negga, Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea, Gavin Friday, Bryan Ferry, etc.) and Cillian Murphy was brilliant, and played such a lovable, sweet, optimistic character.

    The Edge Of Love (2008)
Okay, I suppose, but too little Cillian Murphy in this and too much Keira Knightley (just don't like her as an actor) - at least Sienna Miller was much better than her, though. A slightly stiff movie, not moving when it should have been, and so not that effective on the whole.

    Perrier's Bounty (2009)
A charming Irish comedy & gentle and brutal crime drama. Jim Broadbent was great as Murphy's character's father, Murphy himself great in this one, too. I enjoyed this movie a lot, and it made me think I need to see more Irish movies. - Not the first time I've thought that, even recently...

    Peacock (2010)
A fascinating story, and a fantastic performance from Murphy as two people inhabiting the same body. Also stars Ellen Page and Susan Sarandon.

    ...to be continued...

Captain America: Civil war - a great movie.

I'm going to guess that it ended in a large, loud CGI battle with quick cuts and many explosions.

Kind of, but oh boy how you will like it !!
Imho this movie just made cinematic history on many levels!
The last 20 minutes must be the bloody greatest thing ever gracing the big screen, I'm still not sure it was all just a comic nerdgasmic wet dream...

Actually the final battle is heartbreaking and a real final battle with real consequences. I find that the last three Cap America have been better scripted than the last three 007 outings. And all had more heart and were more personal without offering some poorly scripted attempt.

5 minutes away from experiencing Civil War a second time.
This movie is history in the making. The zenith of the comic book movie genre!

I almost wish the Russo brothers would direct a Bond film. 8->

I finally saw IF a couple of years ago. Very good film.

Its a very British film though the themes translate well, think the film is superb.

@Creasy47 Finished my Hobbit extended edition marathon, TBoFA is a improvement, there are some quite insane scenes added. I find if you can put physics and logic to one side these films are enjoyable, the fact they are fantasy helps. No where near the level of LoTR though glad I bought the extended box set.

@fire_and_ice, happy to hear! Was there an ice chase scene involving Radagast, by any chance? I remember that part sticking out in some of the trailers, but then it was nowhere to be found in the final film.

    The Thing 2011.
A decent enough horror film ( although not a patch on the John Carpenter movie) about the
events that happened at the Norwegian camp, before the Carpenter film. Sadly it's not as
claustrophobic as the first film ( I'm not counting the original The Thing from another world )
and the special effects are CGI, in my opinion not as good as the make up effects of the first
    Film, but worth a look.

...and then some, the ice chase was pretty mad. Radagast appears in another equally bonkers scene. The film seemed to have more weight, and the sickness of Thorin was explored more from what I can remember of the theatrical version.

@Thunderpussy, I brought it up when someone else did a couple of weeks back, not sure if anyone saw it, but the 2011 'Thing' prequel was actually filmed with animatronics and practical effects, just like Carpenter's version, until they thought they could make it look better and more fluid by coating all of it with a heavy amount of bad CG, mere weeks/months before its release. Completely ruined it for me.

@fire_and_ice, that sounds delightful. Happy to hear that an extended running time actually helps the film, because I was very disappointed in it when I saw it opening night in theaters.

One criticism I do have and this is because of the 3D, during pivotal moments they go into slow motion that really does not work and drains a moment of dramatic impact. This mainly happens in last 30 minutes or so.

Off of the top of my head, my biggest issue was the super extreme overusage of CG (I know, I know, it's a fantasy epic, but there was just way, way too much, more than the LOTR trilogy, I'd say) and the first ten or so minutes of the movie felt rushed, given all we had seen in the previous two films. I feel like one of the major plot points was wrapped up way too quick come TBOTFA.

@Creasy47 yes the CGI can be easily spotted and somehow I lose interest in the
events happening on screen, and some how there didn't seem to be as much
Imagination in the "changes" from human to creature.

Agree I started watching Fellowship immediately after vast difference. RoTK had hints of the cgi overload to come with the Hobbit.

Angel Heart a seriously messed up film, though a masterpiece. Not watched this for a couple of years, soon as it floods back so does the horror of what's going on in the film. First time I have watched it in BD, its up there with Chinatown. The film has the odd nudge to Chinatown and The Big Sleep..

I remember looking through the film eagerly to see Billy Connolly, only to find out that he was 100% CG. Very disappointing.
