I remember looking through the film eagerly to see Billy Connolly, only to find out that he was 100% CG. Very disappointing.

Think Connolly gets more scene time, though I know what you mean. Jackson was giving Lucas a run for his money on the cgi front.

That he was, it was disappointing, especially in how shoddy it looked in some parts, particularly in the finale and that leaping bridge sequence with Legolas.

Did you have any issues with the action? That's where I feel 3D can be kind of blurry.

Personally I could do without 3D at the cinema. 4 out of 5 movies suffer in overall picture quality because of it.
Civil War luckily has little issues with the 3D, but the action is a bit of a blur here and there.
If you can catch a 2D showing do it. Luckily in Switzerland cinema complexes have started to show 3D movies in 2D as well on more screens than before. From circa 2011-2014 it was virtually impossible to escape 3D.

Yeah, my local theater has several screens showing Civil War with maybe 1-2 out of 4-5 showing it in 2D. I usually catch movies in 2D as it's hard to wear 3D glasses when you already wear glasses!! Thank you for your opinion. I know some people have good experience with 3D (like the recent Jungle Book), but it's nice to hear what some would prefer.

I really admire what you are doing @FoxRox. I did the same thing about thirty years ago. I had been an eclectic film lover since I was very young, but in my twenties, after seeing many of the cornerstones of cinema as a film major, I decided that I was going to watch every acknowledged important or classic film, from any era or country. All these decades latter I think I've gotten to see most of what I wanted to see, often great prints in ornate theatre. It just took a lot of patience, waiting for the appropriate venue or format for some of the greatest (I would not watch LAWRENCE OF ARABIA until I was able to find a pristine print showing at one of the remaining movie palaces). I get pretty jealous when you tell us that you are watching NETWORK or THE APARTMENT or so many others for the first time. What I wouldn't give to have that experience again; I would trade a decade's salary or your very life to be able to watch GOLDFINGER again for the first time.

I've enjoyed movies since I can remember, but I really only started becoming a serious movie fanatic a few years ago. It is fun to hunt down the classics and find what I like most. It is too bad we can't experience them for the first time ever again. It depresses me movies today really aren't as great as they used to be (a good/great one every now and then, but far less common), but at least we have the classics to enjoy.

Yes. Many of them that are worth watching many time over. I assume you've watched THE GODFATHER and THE GODFATHER PART II. Together, probably the best thing ever filmed.

Oh yeah; many times. They never get old. And I actually would probably agree with you.

I watched a Andy Garcia film where Richard Gere plays a corrupt cop who keeps having sex with his friends wifes. I can't remember the name of it, but man Andy Garcia is good in it! And super young too! The ending was kind of disappointing, but overall it was a good watch, I recommend it. It might have been Black Rain. I think I remember Andy Garcia being in that.

@Mendes4Lyfe, the film that you're referring to is Internal Affairs (1990) and it's a great film. Gere is excellent in it, in a slightly against type role. Never been a fan of Garcia, but I still really like the film. Recommended

    that's infernal affairs, I think.

Yes, Infernal Affairs was remade as The Departed.

Internal Affairs is a completely different film, but also focuses on cops and corruption within the police force. It has a bit of a 90's flavour to it, but the cast is top notch and Gere delivers one of his best performances. Unfortunately it came out around the same time as his turn in the overhyped Pretty Woman, and that film got all the press at the expense of this one, which I personally felt was the superior effort.

Didn't you think the way the film ended was kind of lame, though? We didn't even see if his partner pulled through or not.

    Yes, @Mendes4Lyfe, I agree that
the ending wasn't quite up to standards. It was almost like they needed to wrap it up.
Pity. I wish they had made it longer, like Heat, and then they could have focused more on the excellent characters they came up with. In fact, the film reminds me very much of Heat.

    Before I watch later...

Is Silence of the Lambs really best picture worthy? It scores acclaim from everywhere I've seen, and though I like a good horror film every now and then, is it really that great? I've seen a LOT of 90s films (what I grew up with), but this one stayed under my radar for a while.

Personally I prefer Manhunter, though Hopkins and Fosters performances are very good. The film started off many copycat movies, its a well made film I cant remember what it was up against that year.

Actually the final battle is heartbreaking and a real final battle with real consequences. I find that the last three Cap America have been better scripted than the last three 007 outings. And all had more heart and were more personal without offering some poorly scripted attempt.
I almost wish the Russo brothers would direct a Bond film. 8->

They were my suggestion in the 'Who should direct a Bond' Thread

The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Pretty impressive; liked a lot about this film. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins were both supreme.

Now you see me - a movie attached to the hype of street magicians, the movie and its conclusion did do nothing for me.
