I'm not a big Mad Max fan, I only really enjoyed The Road Warrior but I really did enjoy Fury Road. It was pretty good and very well made with all the right bizarre quirks you'd expect from the series. It didn't disappoint. It's a shame Mel Gibson couldn't return to play Max again. I liked Tom Hardy as Max but Mel in this movie would have been amazing.
It's my favourite horror movie aswell.
I still think of that as one of my best cinema experiences. I went in expecting something campy and cheesy, what I got, was something very different.
I'd say it is at least one of let's say 5 best horror movies ever.
If comedic counts as well then personally I see Shaun Of The Dead as the best horror movie ever. A stroke of unrivalled genius!
The Shining might make my top 25. And I would still include horror comedy, as it is still horror. Shaun Of The Dead would fare better, but wouldn't make my top 10.
Pretty stupid, but so many iconic and entertaining scenes.
I started with Road Warrior since everyone said it was the best. It.... didn't blow me away... I dunno, maybe because it's been hyped up for years and it has a huge following, but it just felt a bit run-of-the-mill. Not bad or anything, just OK. Is that as good as it gets, or should I still try MM & MM:Beyond Thunderdome?
I'd recommend the first Mad Max, While it didn't blow me away, it has good moments in it. For Thunderdome, I like the first half but once he leaves, I tune out.
The trailers looked good, and I'm a big fan of George Clooney. Julia Roberts also impressed me in last year's low key Secret in Their Eyes, so I checked out this Jodi Forster directed thriller, currently playing in theatres.
I had a great time with it. It deals with an interesting, populist premise, and could even have been lifted from the speeches of current presidential hopefuls Donald Trump (rigged system) or Bernie Sanders (Wall Street corruption). Clooney plays Lee Gates, a tv financial guru (no doubt modeled after Jim Cramer of CNBC Mad Money fame) who may come to regret some of his on-tv advice. It's good to see Clooney back in something contemporary - it's been a while - and he's excellent here, as is Roberts as his producer Patty. Standout performance for me goes to Caitriona Balfe as communications specialist Diane Lester, and Dominic West has a small but memorable role as a CEO.
This film feels similar in tone to 2006's Inside Man, the Spike Lee joint which actually starred Jodie Foster, coincidentally. It's not quite as tense as that film, and perhaps not quite as good, but I enjoyed it.
Recommended.
I'm sure some people in the Clinton camp (ironically supported by Clooney and a lot of Hollywood) weren't pleased about the populist undertone.
The reason ROTLA is not my #1 Indy film is that all he really did in the movie was run around saving Marion. I mean, that's great, but Temple Of Doom was more adventurous & Last Crusade had Connery.
Wow. What a film. A notch or 2 below 'First Class' and 'Days of Future Past', but a very worthy successor to these 2 films. This new outing is a lot bigger in scope, almost 'Avengers'-level scope. Scenes range from Egypt, East Germany, Poland, and many other locations. The CGI is impressive, utter mayhem in the last 30 minutes. Quicksilver stole the show again, and his 'classic' scene (as the one in DOFP) is utterly fantastic and feature a very neat song. There is a very cool sequence of a character brutally killing an entire squad of goons (please watch the film to find out who is this character). The story for the first hour is a bit chaotic like Spectre's and Batman v Superman's, but I am sure this will also be a film with very high rewatchability factor. The new cast of younger superheroes is very cool, and I can't wait to see more of them in future installements.
In conclusion: a worthy addition to the X Men series, even if not as good as the previous 2 films of the 'First Class' trilogy. If FC and DOFP were 10/10's for me, this is a solid 8/10.
And remember to watch out for the post credits sequence at the very end of the end credits.
Nomads and Death Train on Blu-ray. Brosnan is already oozing Bond a lot in Deat Train which apparently is called Detonator in the US as @Murdock told me :)
