There is some footage from 'First Class' in 'Apocalyse', and we get to see Fassbender in all his 60's glory again.

Don't get me wrong, @Lancaster007, the new X Men film is highly entertaining. The problem are the trailers ruining the major reveals.

So true. Winter Soldier was the worst of all in that regard.

Thanks to a suggestion from @doubleoego in the 'Asian cinema' thread...

    SPL 2: A Time For Consequences (2015)

Highly stylish action film. The action sequences are mind-blowing - the film features several insane and brutal fist fights. Tony Jaa is a friggin badass, I love his fighting style, and it's always a joy to see Simon Yam in a large role. Damn these asians know how to film insane action scenes. I think I'll be re-watching this film plenty of time while waiting for 'Jason Bourne' later this summer. That final all-out fight was just as epic and badass as the one in 'Man From Nowhere'.

    Kindergarten Cop 2

So I downloaded this just out of curiosity. I figured that with Dolph Lundgren (who I love btw) there was potential for comedy gold, depending on what direction it took.
After the first two minutes it was clear that this was a pale cheap rehash of the first one.

HOWEVER, just as I was ready to rip the movie a new one, something else became clear: this is 100% a kids movie. Despite starring Dolph, there is no cussing or blood, and it's very family friendly. The first movie with Arnold was too, at its core sure, but there was plenty of stuff for us 'big kids' to enjoy... that movie was a comedy.

If you were expecting to see Dolph ham it up with the intensity of his Expendables character but with kids, like I was hoping for, this is NOT it. But on the other hand, if you have little kids it would make for an ok family movie night (seriously)

Yes, great film. I saw it last October in the cinema and told people it was in my Top 10 Movies for 2015. But for those looking to see it in now the title has changed to Kill Zone 2, as I pointed out in a previous comment.

PS. I didn't know there was an 'Asian cinema' thread, otherwise I would have left my comment there

Manhunter. Visual joyfest with a lovely 80's score. Probably my favourite Mann movie.

Love it. A REAL thriller, had me on the edge of my seat on first viewing.

    'The Witch'

Well, chalk that up to being yet another overhyped horror movie. I don't know why I bother with them anymore, one of the most boring movies I've seen in a very long time.

EDIT: I guess I woke up and unconsciously decided to have an awful horror movie marathon today, as I followed this up with 'The Visit,' which wasn't as bad as what preceded it, but definitely didn't do anything for me, either. What happened to horror films being scary?

Thanks to a suggestion from @bondjames, tonight I made a 3rd trip to the cinema this week, after 'The Nice Guys' and 'X Men Apocalypse', for...

    Money Monster (2016)

Fantastic film. 90 minutes of pure tension and total, unhinged powerhouse acting. I must give a huge applause to George Clooney who gave the performance of a lifetime (Michael Clayton was my favorite role from him, but I think Lee Gates from this film is now my ultimate Clooney performance), and special mention to Jack O'Connell, who is the revelation of the film. I knew of the guy (I own 'Unbroken', 'Starred Up' and '71' on Blu Ray, but never gotten 'round to watch them), but after this stunning acting performance from him I will check these films sharpish. This is, I think, the first 'hostage situation' film where I found both the hostage and the perpetrator to both be portrayed in such charismatic and powerful fashion. The rest of the cast is splendid too - Julia Roberts, and some TV alumni (The Wire's Mcnulty, Breaking Bad's Gus Fring). Some very powerful moments (Clooney's monologue, the climax, etc).

If you want 90 minutes of tension with stunning performances from the main 2 actors (Clooney and O'Connell), this film is for you. It may not crack my top 10 at the end of the year, but a top 20 finish is a high probability.

Brazil (1985). Hit-and-miss for me. From what I've seen, I just can't fully get into a Terry Gilliam movie.

    OH yeah. Pure jaw-drop.
Agreed. Bond written all over that scene. Connery Bond no less.

I'm a big fan of Gilliam's work (especially 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' and 'Brazil,') but yes, it's definitely not for everyone; you either love his style or you hate it.
I didn't love or hate Brazil honestly. I really liked a lot of the imagery, and the performances of Robert De Niro and Bob Hoskins. Also some of the humor was pretty good. Just collectively, not my kind of movie.

His best movies probably from those that I've seen. Seen both multiple times and always enjoyed them.

Just occurred to me I don't currently have a copy of Fisher King, think ill order it on BD. I enjoy Arthurian Legend the quest the central characters go on in search of self resonated, Bridges and Williams give great performances.

    Iron Man (2008):
Haven't seen it since it came out, but I have to say I did enjoy it as much as I enjoyed it back then. Obviously the kickstarter of that one universe that's making billions yearly now, setting the pillars and all that. It was done all too wonderfully, I say.

    Iron Man 2 (2010):
Again, I am seeing it for the second time overall and first since it came out. I felt it was a little improved over the great film that was the first, and it was developed for the better to fill in for Fury's "Avengers Initiative" operation than the post-credits scene that was in the first. Oh and Scarlett Johansson... Saints preserve me...

    Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014):
This is the first time completely that I am seeing this film, which I found disappointing. Sure, it has all the great cast there is, but I do have a problem with the story's constant depressing melodrama. It started off greatly and I thought the film was going to give its share of good laughter, but the tone shifted from that into a... a drama movie with special effects and CGI. It was like... watching Dr. Seuss writing a more "mature movie" with conflicted characters grieving over their past. Nope, not my kind of thing. The highlight of the film was that character Rocket "Rocky" Raccoon. That's all I can say.

Same here, Thunder. The film was as bad as you described it sometime ago.

That said, @Thunderfinger, have you watched Deadpool yet?
I haven't seen either, but I'm partial to cats in general, so I suspect I might agree with you guys. I gave up on MCU before I got to Guardians.

It's not like Guardians at all. I remember you compared them once in spiritual sense. As I said once, it's more comparable to the Kick-Ass movies, but better. Try it, if you like.

I think I'd exclude Guardian from the list since it doesn't have the same standards as the other three. Kingsman, Kick-Ass and Deadpool, though, are very much alike in tone.

I don't remember being a fan of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' the one time I saw it, and the scenes in general weren't terribly memorable, so I don't care for it. Was surprised that I enjoyed 'Deadpool' as much as I did, though.

@Tuulia, have you seen Malick's 'The New World'? If so, what're your thoughts on it in comparison to the rest of his filmography?
