Have you ever seen 'The Raid'? They were written/shot around the same time, and both have the same sort of setting (trapped in a huge apartment building, facing impossible odds).
I'm coming for you.

'The Raid' was all in an apartment building, while the second branches out much more, so I'm guessing you saw the first. Shame you didn't like it.
I've always been a Clive Owen fan and this film definitely features one of his best performances. It's definitely a great film, at times moving, at other times violent. The motto "A man's got to do what a man's got to do" suits this flick best. Such a stellar cast, brilliant performances from everyone. It also features James Caan, who I am also a fan of, Zoe Saldana, who doesn't need anyone's applause because she's beyond magnificent in anything she appears, Mila Kunis and of course... Billy Crudup (Watchmen, anyone?) who was equally as brilliant as the other lead actors.
Oh, and how can I forget? Marion Cotillard! I don't think she needs a label from anyone. What an actress!
P.S. Anyone who thinks Clive Owen is boring and can't act must watch this film. Period.

One of the few Tarantino films I had never seen before. A total blast! 100 minutes of a legendary Uma Thurman being a total badass, thanks to hardcore fight scenes, a killer soundtrack and electric directing from Tarantino. That final fight between Thurman and all the samurai gangsters is absolutely fantastic.
I shall continue tomorrow with the 2nd part, and maybe 'Death Proof' if I have time before the first Euro football game of the day.
Vol 2 is a vastly different movie, as far as tone, yet it's such a great conclusion. I actually have a tough time deciding which one I like more. Whenever I sit down to watch Vol 1, I have a hard time not immediately putting in Vol 2!
As for Death Proof, you'll either love it or hate it!
I watched Interstellar yesterday, and had a great time with it. My appetite was whetted for more Nolan, and so I put on the final installment in his epic Bat trilogy tonight.
I've always liked TDKR, & think it gets a bum rap in some circles. I really enjoyed it this time as well. It closes out the story of Bruce Wayne beautifully, bringing everything full circle from BB, and tying up all the loose ends. The League of Shadows returns to wreak havoc on Gotham, this time with the brute Bane in charge, and the Bat is tested once again, this time literally to breaking point. I noticed today just how beautiful the visuals are in this film. It reminds me a little of Heat, because there is an urban grit combined with polish, just like in Mann's landmark film. The final street battle in particular is immense.
The story is complex and grand, and Nolan holds it all together nicely, as he is wont to do. SF, released in the same year, seems almost simple in comparison to the twists and turns at play here. The performance are superb across the board by everyone concerned. Anne Hathaway in particular does a great job as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. Tom Hardy is an excellent Bane, & Christian Bale owns the role of Wayne. Affleck is good & may be this year's flavour, but Bale is my #1 Bat for all time. Once again Hans Zimmer delivers a masterpiece of a score, ominous & full of foreboding. It's a privilege to watch a film like this, where CGI is kept to a minimum, and when used, is purely to augment. What a contrast to the Marvel/DC output that we normally see.
I'm always moved by the ending sequence in this film, where Alfred sees Wayne with Kyle in the restaurant/cafe. After all the man has lost & been through, it's great to see him find peace.
Recommended.
Woooow! I thought I would prefer the 1st one since it's more action packed, the jesus christ, this 2nd part is something else! A lot of fantastic scenes here (the kung fu training, the buried alive scene, the opening scene, all the scenes with Michael Madsen...), a spectacular soundtrack, some more hardcore fighting (the one in the caravan is so intense). Ok, it's very close but I think I prefer 'Part 2'.
Now, let's watch some badass Kurt Russell in 'Death Proof', I have just enough time before Spain vs Czech Republic at the Euro. And if I'm not too tired after the 3 football games, I'll check out 'Planet Terror' before going to sleep!
Kurt Russell is the friggen man! Pure machismo and bucket loads of charisma and screen presence. I don't know which half I prefer - I loved the ominous atmosphere in the bar, with a very mysterious Russell, but the 2nd part of the film has a very intense car chase. Electric soundtrack again, and I love this form of old-school non-stop entertainment.
Tonight: 'Planet Terror'. As for tomorrow.. I'll try a double bill of intense horror: 'The Descent' and 'Dog Soldiers'. I've never seen any of these 3 films, so I am really excited to discover them!
I absolutely loved Death Proof when I saw it, and still do. Quentin views it as his worst film thus far.
Please watch The Descent in an absolutely DARK environment, with the volume very loud.
Dog Soldiers might be interesting to begin with, but hopefully the Descent will entertain you as much as it does me.
The Descent 2 is good as well but not as good, IMO at least, as the first film.
@bondjames, I'm happy someone can recommend TDKR, because I can't. It has a lot of cool moments, but past that, it's just a bad movie and an awful, muddled conclusion to what was otherwise shaping up to be an incredible trilogy.
What the hell!! Totally insane film. One of the goriest I've ever seen, some of stuff in there are utterly disgusting, but damn is the film entertaining. Love this group of survivors of the zombie apocalypse mowing down dozens of zombies with tons of blood and body parts flying around and/or exploding. And is Michael Biehn a friggen badass! I love that guy. And it was very cool to see appearances from Naveen Andrews and Bruce Willis.
This was the last Tarantino film I hadn't seen, and I think I managed to keep the best one for last. This may very well be my favorite of his films. Spectacular plot and dialogues, a killer soundtrack and powerhouse performances from a phenomenal Samuel L Jackson, Robert De Niro, Robert Forster, Pam Grier and Michael Keaton. The 2.5 hours flew by, what a totally captivating film.
I think it's been very underrated. This film really does demand repeat viewings to take everything in. Really great performances and some cracking dialogue.
I haven't read the Elmore Leonard novel, Rum Punch, but the film is one of Tarantino's best.
I found Scorcese's film nothing but a vulgar and shallow disappointment.
The original is such a great thriller with Mitchum and Peck on great form.
Really enjoyed this although it apparently flopped at the box office.
Tells the true story of Philippe Petit who did a tightrope walk across the World Trade Centre buildings in 1974.
Really well shot with the Twin towers beautifully re-created on film.
Be warned anyone with a fear of heights. The scenes where he finally does his 'walk' will leave you with sweaty palms and hyper ventilating!
What. The. F*ck. One of the scariest films I've ever seen. What an absolute tense atmosphere, and once these friggin monsters appeared, I was freaking out on my chair. Jesus christ, I wasn't planning on sleeping for the next 3 weeks anyway. This is now at the top of my favorite horror films of the 2000's, alongside 'Outpost'. I'm going to check out 'Dog Soldiers' later tonight, been wanting to watch that one for a long time.
