Highly entertaining Jason Statham action film. He is a proper badass here, some of his kills here are very brutal. A lot of intense action scenes - the shootout in the restaurant, the shootout in the nightclub and the subway fight. The simple plot that doesn't distract you from watching Statham demolishing two gangster organizations - A Russian one and a Chinese one. 2012 was an explosive year for action films, thanks to 'Expendables 2', 'Jack Reacher', 'Safe House' and this one.
This is currently one of the more popular kommissars on the German television and the first of four tv movies and one cinema outing. Which has not happend since Schimanski.
Brilliant movie, one of my favourites.
I know this is a classic and all, but i found it bland, boring and unfunny.
Edit: I liked Mon Oncle (1958) though, so i will give Playtime (1967) a go aswell.

There are some great fight scenes in that film. Must have a re-watch of that one.
He thinks Jaws is dull so don't pay any attention to him ;)
I've not seen the film properly by the way.
I always suspected I wouldn't like this, but for Mann and Lubezki eventually had to watch it anyway. Well, didn't like it, and found it quite boring. Sorry Mr. Mann.
The Two Faces Of January (2014)
Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac. Based on the Patricia Highsmith novel. Certainly not as good as The Talented Mr. Ripley, but still good.

Been to the movies a couple of times as well after a long break:
Julieta (2016)
The new Pedro Almodóvar movie. The story is based on three Alice Munro short stories, and though I haven't read them it felt like there was maybe too much into mere 96 minutes. Some aspects didn't get enough attention and the end felt kinda rushed. Still pretty good and had good acting.
The Lobster (2015)
Colin Farrell was great as the lead here, and the rest of the cast was not too shabby, either (Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly, Olivia Colman, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, etc.). A strange movie story-wise, but in a good way. The first scene was already telling in that it was a sort of "wtf was that all about?" and then for a while you learn the set-up, as this isn't your regular everyday world. There is definite logic of its own, and it's both brutal and funny. I enjoyed it a lot.
Farrell just started shooting another movie with the director Yorgos Lanthimos. I have no idea what that is about, but I'm already interested. This one was fascinating.
Seriously? Jaws dull! (face palm)
Based on Philip K. Dick's short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale", this Sci-Fi 'B' film masterpiece holds a special place in my heart. I will always recall seeing the ads for this film in the tube stations in London as a boy, with a big photo of Arnie in shadow and the caption "They stole his mind. Now he wants it back!". I was too young to watch it in the theatres, but that poster fascinated me, and I insisted that my parents allow me to watch it with them on VHS when it was released. I was completely blown away.
From Jerry Goldsmith's magnificent score (his best work imho, and the best space score I had heard at that point since Barry's work for MR), to Arnie's muscular performance (he was at the top of his game at this time), to the natural sexiness of a young Sharon Stone (a harbinger of bigger things to come), it was a truly memorable experience.
All of that came back to me while watching it last night. What an absolutely great movie! The remake is a piece of "S" in comparison.

I'm posting Goldsmith's superb main title score here. Gives me the shivers to this day.
My favorite Arnie film - far and away.
Another entertaining action film with Jason Statham, this time pitting him against Jet Li. Statham is once again the king of badasses here, not taking any bullshit, and even showing he can speak Japanese. But it's Jet Li who has the highest body count, thanks to several big action scenes where he takes down countless goons. I really like the end battle between these 2 actors - brutal stuff. This film is a proper old school action flick, with the 2 leads on top of their game. Recommended, like 'Safe' (2012), if you have want a 90 minutes adrenaline rush.
It's a great film but it does go a bit OTT towards the end!

Good score but I think Goldsmith was more than a little influenced by Basil Poleduris's Conan theme!
I think Craig's escape from Blofeld in SP is very Total Recall-esque, albeit not as gory.
A Hitchcock doubling in PSYCHO (1960) and ROPE (1948), the latter of which I find rather underrrated. Riveting stuff.
DR. STRANGELOVE (1964), I like it but I sometimes feel its humour is of its time. Still, the phonecall between the President and Russian premier remains hilarious.
Even more badass action films lead by the legend that is Jason Statham. 'Crank' being one of the most insane action films I've never seen. The ultimate Statham flick. He is a total legend in this film. As for 'Blitz', Statham is one tough cop. From the epic first scene (one of my favorite intros), to the climax where he demolishes everything, and the rest of the film where he doesn't accept any rubbish from anyone, this film is one of my favorite Statham flick. Just 90 minutes of him wrecking havoc around London.
It was enjoyable but not a brilliant movie.
