The Killing fields - an insight in a somewhat alien world of the Khmer Rouge that changed the face of Cambodia and the strength of friendship between two men. Not a sensational war movie but a frighting face of war where humanity is not important. A very important movie about a war that is too easily forgotten.

    The Grey (2012)

    The%20Grey%20with%20Liam%20Neeson%205.png

Even when the matter at hand is leading a group of men to survive in a very cold environment after a plane crash, Liam Neeson still has a very specific set of skills he can use. Very good performance from Neeson, likewise for the supporting cast. Extremely tense film, great use of the locations. A 2 hours survival film where Neeson showcases he is the man to rely on in any situation.

Er, like doesn't he get everybody killed...?
    :-S
I always thought staying in the downed plane would have been the best course of action. Bit of a disappointment to be honest....

A Walk Among The Tombstones (2014)

    maxresdefault.jpg

Multiple women get kidnapped. This time, Liam Neeson uses his investigative skills to find the perpetrators. Always a joy to watch these Neeson films, where we we have many sequences with a silent Neeson walking around, looking tough and ready for action, knowing that when sh*t gets real, Neeson will get the job done without breaking a sweat. He has good chemistry with his 'associate', 14 year-old TJ. This film was my first taste of Dan Stevens outside of 'Downton Abbey', and I really liked his more tough self, although I wasn't prepared for his totally badass performance in 'The Guest'. I hear there are several other novels with Neeson's character, so I hope they can make a sequel or too - can't have enough films where Neeson owns the screen as an older action star.

Woohoo! Awesome! I just watched The Killing (1956). Kubrick films are truly special.

Havent watched this in years! Forgotten how enjoyable it is! Yul Brynner marvellous as the robot, and Richard Benjamin (whatever happened to him, he became a director for a while, is he still alive?) and James Brolin as the townies visiting the theme park! Long before Jurassic Park, (and better imho!) Michael Crichton does a great job adapting his book!
Really entertaining with a great finale with Benjamin trying to outwit Brynners malfunctioning gunslinger! Wonder will the forthcoming TV series be as good?
Yes, a classic! I loved the story, the pixellated visual effects, the music--and Brynner in black with his light-reflecting contact lenses.

The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008)

    park_chang-yi.jpg

A loose South Korean adaptation of the classic Leone adventure. And this film makes Tarantino's work look like serious dramas! Tons of shootouts, chases and fights, mixed with a huge dose of humour and 3 insanely badass and charismatic performances from the 3 leads - Song Kang-Ho, Lee Byung-Hun and Jung Woo-Sung. Some of the action sequences here are off the charts, and I believe 'Mad Max Fury Road' took inspiration from this film - that final climax with the horses, bikes, machine guns and mortars is one of, if not the most exciting and breathtaking climax I can think of. Pure mayhem for 15 minutes. This film is extremely fun, I still remember getting a huge kick out of it when I saw it on the big screen.

    High Rise (2015)

I was expecting to like this film, but damn was I wrong. I really, really did not like it one bit. I don't recall the last time I wished a film would just hurry up and end :(

    Blood Diamond (2006)

    Blood_Diamond.jpg

In my top 10 favorite films. Killer soundtrack, gorgeous cinematography, powerhouse performances from Dicaprio and Hounsou, thrilling action scenes. I was excited for a long time in 2006 for this film, and it still blew my mind when I saw it on opening day. Dicaprio is a total legend in this film, he has a lot of badass moments (killing the 3 guards near the bridge) and very cool one liners ('That's for breaking my TV, bruh').

I was very disappointed with Dick Tracy when it came out. Would love to see some of the old ones, though.

Well, I have been reading the comics for a while and this was my first time watching the movie. I
like it and I consider it a bit under appreciated.

That being said, I will respect you for your opinions. We all have to disagree sometime, don't we?

of course. we all see things from different angles, and with different prior experiences and anticipations. It s really a good thing.

Undoubtedly. It's what allows me to hold a torch for generally reviled movies like the Schumacher Batmans, Godzilla '98, and DAD.

Ghostbusters (2016) - Didn't think it was as bad as some people made out. Was ok though, but far from great.

I'm watching "DIE ANOTHER DAY". I just saw the scene in which Rosamund Pike's Miranda Frost forced Halle Berry's Jinx Johnson to put that bomber on auto pilot. I'm amazed that a woman who is 13 years younger than Berry can called the latter "good girl" in a patronizing manner and get away with it. Racism is still alive and well . . . even in a James Bond movie from the 21st century.

I don't see how is that racist, to be honest. She wasn't patronizing her because she was of different ethnicity.

This. I've never once even considered that that line was/could be racist at all.
  • It's 2016- everything's racist and offensive. dunno.gif

That's why whenever I'm bored on my computer, I like to explore Google Earth to try and find the one island that's farthest away from everything, and daydream about moving there, lol

Plus, what does the age difference mean? Would it be "less racist" if she was older? I don't get it, I think you're looking into it a bit too much.

I recall someone mentioning the "Your mama" line a few months back, and how it was incredibly racist, too - something I also didn't comprehend at all.

I'm still at loss how can a simple word spoken by an actress whose age wasn't even specified in the film could be racist.

She was patronizing her because she's a villain and superior as an individual, thinking that Jinx is an infiltrator, so she treats her enemy with utmost disrespect.

Never for a moment I thought a scene like that could have been taken out of context that didn't even include a reference to that sort of subject.

I'm considering to move out of Earth to Planet Mars. See if the possibilities and fees would sit well with me to start a new life there. :))
  • Oeno Island, right between New Zealand and Africa, fits the bill pretty nicely. Lots of these islands look remote, but once you zoom in there's civilization. But not this one! Just look at how it has that beautiful bright blue water surrounding it, despite being in the middle of the ocean!

Maybe one day when I'm older I'll just sail out there (with my Indy hat on). Just me and my cat- I'll be perfectly at peace!

    The Crow: City of Angels

It's pretty bad, but I have a bit of a soft spot for it. A directors cut would work wonders- lots of the usual studio 'we know better' interference on this one.

Iggy Pop is hilarious in this movie though, and Tom Jane (The Punisher) is in it too, before he was famous!
It's not the worst one by any means. That would be Wicked Prayer. Plus the original ending they had in mind sounded awesome! Long story short, Ashe misses his opportunity to die so he can be with Sarah, and SHE ends up dying! Ashe is forced to live forever!
