Three Days of the Condor is a brilliant thriller. Great opening scene, and contains one of the best edited fight sequences!

THE BIG RED ONE is a must too!

    Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011)

    mi4_tom_cruise-3.jpg

One heck of an action film. Flat-out action from start to finish, hardly any time to catch your breathe between the Moscow prison escape, to the Kremlin infiltration, the Dubai tower climb, the sandstorm car chase to the climax in Mumbai. Tom Cruise is a total legend, and the rest of his team is very good too - Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton. Great soundtrack, insane stunts/action scenes, and a very cool plot makes M:I:4 one of my favorite action films of the decade so far.

Total Recall (1990) and The Running Man (1987) are my personal favorite Arnie flicks. I still definitely need to watch Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), True Lies (1994), and Predator (1987)!

    You've never seen T2..@FoxRox ?

One of the greatest action films ever made! You're in for a treat!

True Lies is also an awesome action film.

No coincidence they're both directed by James Cameron

My all-time favourite installment in the series, followed very closely by Rogue Nation.

T2, The Running Man, True Lies, Predator, MI-Ghost Protocol & Rogue Nation?

These are all superior and legendary films which will be remembered for years to come.

I have to watch all of these again shortly.

FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN AKA ANDY WARHOLS'S FRANKENSTEIN

Udo Kier is Baron Frankenstein planning to create a perfect race by mating his male and female zombies. He needs a male with a major sex drive and perfect nasum so he and his assistant (Arno Juerning) make their way to the local brothel and behead their target. Unfortunately they accidentally choose an aspiring monk.
It's pretty funny and shot in 3D with organs, liver, stomachs, hearts, etc thrust into the camera. Udo Kier is amazing here as The Baron, and would immediately follow this with his unusual performance as Dracula in ANDY WARHOL'S DRACULA.
Still this cult film is definitely an acquired taste. It's either loved or loathed.
One of my favorites- and the Dracula film is even better!

Can't argue with any of those. Make that another.

Since you've waited this long, if I were you I'd wait until the 3D one comes out; see that large and loud in the theatre!
    Either way, you'll love it!

    The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

    supremacy.jpg

12 years on, I am still amazed at how 'modern' the film looks. From the moment Matt Damon demolishes his 2 Naples interrogators in 1 second flat, the action simply is breathtaking. That brutal fist fight in the Munich apartment, the Berlin night-time footchase, to the insane Moscow car chase, this film could well have been made in 2016. Wall-to-wall action for 100 minutes, for me this was the first 'true' 21st century action film - I realize there is 'Bourne Identity', but 'Supremacy' is the first IMO that just pushes the limit in terms of amount of action in a single film. Matt Damon is a force to be reckoned with as Bourne, from his intense acting to the sheer physicality in the action scenes, he joins Cruise's Ethan Hunt and Craig's James Bond as my ultimate action stars of the past 16 years (outside of my love for 60+ years old action heroes, of course).

    The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

    landscape_movies-the-bourne-ultimatum-matt-damon.jpg

This was the first Bourne outing I saw on the big screen, and I still remember that day almost 10 years on. It totally blew my socks off. And, of course, little did I know at the time I would get a similar excitement with 'Taken' a few months later. This film continues the wall-to-wall action template of 'Supremacy' and goes even further. The amount of action scenes in this one is off the charts. From the fantastic Waterloo Station sequence, to the Tangiers sequence (probably my favorite chase scene of all time) to the incredible climax in New York, this film is basically huge action set-pieces one after the other for 1 hour and 50 minutes. Matt Damon is the king of badasses here, he literally tears down goons all over the world without breaking a sweat. I really enjoy the soundtracks in these Bourne films, they really fit the mood and style of the trilogy.

    'Independence Day: Resurgence'

Hands down one of the worst movies I've ever had the misfortune of watching. Not an iota of enjoyment to be found here, unless you like movies that are bloated, filled with piss poor CG and acting abilities that make the likes of Jai Courtney look like a thespian.

Sounds right in line with the original then.

Indeed it is. I thought about rewatching that one (haven't seen it since I was a kid) before this, but I recall not enjoying that one, either, so figured it'd be an even bigger waste of time.

I feel very fortunate that I did not waste a penny on this film. I didn't think too highly of the first one either.

Aww...the first one is a goofy classic.

To be honest though I think David Arnold and Will Smith help give that film charm.

Same. Even spending one penny to see this would've been a huge loss.

I haven't seen the sequel yet- I remember liking the first as a kid, but it's been MANY years since I've seen it.
At this point I'm afraid to, lol. Nostalgia is a tricky bugger. Better to save the good memories, right?

I guess we can now see why Will Smith refused to join the project. He must have read the script and acted accordingly. :))

Blazing Saddles (1974), for the first time. Pretty good as far as parody films go, which I'm generally not a big fan of. Gene Wilder was my favorite part for sure.

    The Magnificent Seven (2016)

    maxresdefault.jpg

I haven't had this much fun in a long time. In my top 3 of 2016 so far. The main 7 guys were fantastic. Great chemistry between them. Denzel Washington as badass as ever, a cool-as-ice Chris Pratt, Lee Byung-Hun's was off the charts in his charisma, Vincent D'Onofrio was a scene stealer. Thrilling action, a very high body count, tons of shootouts. The final climax is 25 of fun and epic mayhem. Denzel is the friggin man, I now can't wait for 'The Equalizer 2', his next film with director Antoine Fuqua.

I think I'll like it a second time more. Every now and then for some reason it takes me two watches to like a film.

That happens to me quite a bit, too. Sometimes the movie is so different what one is expecting one is just in the wrong frame of mind for that particular movie at that particular time, or one is too tired or something. I know when it's the case of "I need to re-watch this another time" (and so I will) and when it's the case of "this movie just isn't for me" (and so I won't bother with it again).

The Sting (1973). Great film, had a great second viewing. Glad it won best picture of its year (about tied with Paper Moon for my favorite of the year).

Glad to hear you enjoyed it this time. It's a great movie, with great performances. I really like the score, too, and never had any issues of it not being from the period the movie is set in. Somehow ragtime just suits it.
Lee Marvin is impressive in Cat Ballou.

Oh yes, he is indeed. And that's a childhood movie favorite for me and I still love it.
    So is Jane Fonda... :x

    True.
@DaltonCraig007, I'll add that one too, thanks.

The next Lee Marvin's I'll be able to see are The Killing and after that The Dirty Dozen, two films with genius concepts I can't wait to experience.

You haven't seen Dirty Dozen? Get onto it! :)
    HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE

    Lauren Bacall
    Betty Grable
    Marilyn Monroe

Could it be that never in cinematic history three more gorgeous women have been playing together in a completely lovable, silly, romantic comedy? Or in any movie for that matter!

Sweetening my Film Noir Marathon with the occasional Marilyn film is fabulous.

I so love all those great romantic comedies! And I feel the urge to start a Doris Day Marathon as well as I now own so many of hers in High Definition and never watched them in that format.

Really, I almost want to open a new thread for romantic comedies/musicals of the 50s/60s... it's such a huge treasure.

Indeed, romantic comedies often used to be excellent. Nowadays they're mostly just embarrassing, sadly.

    Furious 6 (2013) and The Expendables 2 (2012)

    expendables-schwarzenegger-stallone-willis.jpg

Really awesome films. Both are jam-packed with thrilling action scenes and very charismatic leads - what a sight to see Stallone, Arnie and Willis side by side machine gunning everything that moves. The tank vs cars sequence on the high way in Furious 6 is off the charts - especially that badass moment when Vin Diesel jumps in the air to catch Michelle Rodriguez.

@DaltonCraig007, my favorite Fast film. The team never felt more cohesive, with great locations and stunts on hand, including that airplane sequence that remains one of my favorite cinematic moments I've ever seen.

@DaltonCraig007, the ball-busting in those films is off the charts, whether it's the running joke about Tyrese's forehead or Hobbs being teased about baby oil. They've all got really great chemistry together, and The Rock, Tyrese and Ludacris are especially amusing to watch.
