@DarthDimi - I must be one of the few fans that believe that Jason X isn't that bad. It's got some cheesy dialogue, but it has some interesting kills (the first one that comes to mind, is the one involving the large drill bit), and it has one of my favourite looks for Jason (and no, I don't mean uber Jason).

Jason X is that the one set in space? Alot of familiar Sci fi actors in that one.

Thanks to a recommendation by @Creasy47, I finally got around to watching the cult classic 1982 film, The Thing.

What a fantastic film. Goes straight to my all time favorites. Extremely tense film, great cast (always a joy watching Kurt Russell and Keith David), and the 'gore' sequences are just insanely scary. Thanks to Creasy47, I won't be sleeping again in the coming week.

    Besides Bond:

    AVPR
    Predators
    Prometheus

AvP Requiem was pretty meh except for the last 35 minutes where Predators and Aliens are kicking some series asses. The first 55 minutes are a mash up of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Predator. Truly awful.

Predators is bloody freaking fantastic. Just WOWed the whole movie through. I could have done without the 15 minutes in-between Laurence Fishburne bit. But it couldn't hurt an otherwise perfect action roller-coaster ride with a incredibly good ensemble cast.

Prometheus I loved immediately when I saw it at the cinema. Ridley Scott is my favourite living director anyway besides Tim Burton so that's not a surprise.
So happy he made another one like this with The Martian (direction, style, setting).
  • @BondJasonBond006 I loved Predators too! I saw it opening night, and I don't know why I haven't revisited it since- I should really pick that movie up.
I feel like I heard a rumor somewhere that in the early stages of the script Fishburne's character was supposed to be Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising as Dutch- having been captured and forced to fight for years, and was now crazed and bloodthirsty. That would have been INSANE!!!!
Then again, I heard another rumor that he was meant to have a quick cameo at the very end, showing up to take Royce with him. Not quite as cool, but seeing Arnold in some form would have been neat.

Speaking of Dutch, do any Predator experts know if he shows up again, or has some sort of closure- be it in a book, or comic? As far as Predator lore, I'm really only familiar with the movies

Jason X is really good. I find most of the F13 films a bit of a bore to be honest.

It has the thing that most of the other F13 movies lack; A sense of humour.

Suspenseful film with an interesting plot. Maybe a bit far-fetched, but so what? It s a film.

I am all for humour in the F13 films, but I would rather a blacker sense of humour.

Agreed. Excellent film, and Jaume Collet-Serra is an outstanding action director.

He'll be directing Liam Neeson again shortly in the upcoming The Commuter, which I'm completely excited for, and his recent The Shallows is well worth a watch for more than Blake Lively in a bikini (although that's a welcome fringe benefit).

Django Unchained - I'm not the biggest Tarantino fan, but it's entertaining enough I suppose. Waltz is good in this.
  • Django Unchained
What a coincidence, I just watched that yesterday too!
I saw it when it was first released on Bluray and didn't care for it too much, but last week I got curious and watched the original Django (1966) and LOVED it! Franco Nero was one cool bastard in this, and a quick IMDB search made me aware I've actually seen him before and didn't even know it, alongside Harrison Ford in Force 10 From Navarone!

    django_jamie_foxxd.jpg

He also has a cameo in Django Unchained (after the 'mandingo fight' he asks Jamie Foxx to spell his name-- 'the D is silent.' 'I know')

Not sure if he could pull off a British accent, but by the look of him, he could have made a hell of a Bond!

Anyway, after loving Django I went ahead and rewatched Django Unchained, and enjoyed it much much more. And I was overjoyed when I realized Tarantino used nearly all of the original music! (that went right over my head the first time I watched it)

@Master_Dahark, there actually is an official sequel to the original Django, but it's heavily panned by the fans and critics alike. That also said, a third film, set in the original Django timeline, with Franco Nero set to reprise his role, is also in the works.
  • Ha ha yeah I watched the trailer for the sequel and it looked hilariously bad. Between that and other gems like Enter the Ninja, it would appear ol' Franco should have used better judgement in the 80's. It wasn't until Django Unchained that I had even heard of him!
He should have been a much bigger star! Shame.

I didn't hear about the new sequel- thanks for letting me know!

I casually watched a few of their lists (I enjoy reading or watching Top 10s/rankings/etc.), but that video I put up alone nullifies any credibility they had IMO.

Always liked Signore Nero. I loved him in Force 10.

Perhaps it is also worth noting we share a first name.

I loved Nero in Die Hard 2. That was the first film I saw him in and I could tell he was a pro. Such screen presence.

The Hills Have Eyes [blu-ray]. Wes Craven's '77 shocker. Saw this in the cinema in about 1980/81 as a double feature (might have been with Scanners, but not really sure), and couldn't remember much about it - apart from the general story - and was pleasantly surprised. A great package from Arrow Video, in what is probably the best you'll see it. Originally shot on 16mm and duped up to 35mm there is a lot a grain (not something that bothers me, as grain is what the picture is made of) with no noticeable DNR, and of course the night scenes suffer a bit, but then with this kind of film you don't want/need a pristine presentation. It feels more authentic like this. Nice lot of extras, and a booklet and quality double-sided poster. Well done Arrow Video.

viewing to come:- Hitch-Hike [88 Films - The Italian Collection] and Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead [Arrow Video].

Keeping Up with the Joneses (2016)

I was looking forward to this film purely because of Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot. The other two actors (Zach and Isla whatever) didn't interest me in the slightest. I knew going in that the reviews weren't good and that the premise was a bit tired (it was tired even 10 years ago when Jolie and Pitt tried it with Mr. & Mrs. Smith).

Well, the film isn't horrendously bad, although it's certainly quite poor. The jokes are predictable, flat and quite frankly unfunny for the most part. The film is like a combination of True Lies , Horrible Bosses & Hangover but without the quality of any of the prior movies.

The worst part is the first half, which goes through the motions as the Gaffneys (Galifianakis & Fisher) slowly (like watching paint dry) learn that their almost too perfect new neighbours, the Joneses (Hamm & Gadot) aren't quite what they seem. The film really picks up once they make the discovery that they are in fact secret agents however, with some neat action sequences in the 2nd half. It's still not enough to make up for the dullness of the first half though.

The best part of this film is undoubtedly Gal Gadot. She is hugely charismatic, and her statuesque figure and credible action chops have really whetted my appetite for next year's Wonder Woman. Jon Hamm is wasted in this film, but at least we get to see him acting opposite Gadot, even if it's not in my preferred role for him as Superman opposite her WW.

Not recommended. Best to wait for video.

Nothing like Liam Neeson kicking some ass, whether on a plane or on the streets of Paris.

@bondjames Are you going to see 'Inferno' this weekend? I am sure you will have a much better time with the fantastic Tom Hanks back as Robert Langdon.

    Definitely @DaltonCraig007.

I'm really looking forward to it, although some of the reviews popping up on RT aren't so favourable. I'm not quite as hyped as I was for Angels and Demons, mainly because Felicity Jones seems a bit wooden in the trailers, but hopefully it will be 3 for 3 with the Langdon Brown adaptations. I loved the first two.

I saw those reviews too, @bondjames, but when I compared with the other 2 Langdon films, I saw that 'Angels & Demons' was only at 37% on RT, which I thought was a splendid thriller film for Hanks. So I am still hopeful.
