  • @IncompetentHenchman - I'm going to have be that guy, but I like Jason Goes To Hell. Don't get me wrong, I know why it's disliked, but I like it because it is so different. Not that it would have much impact on your ranking, but which cut did you watch?

Personally I didn't like it because it sort of misses the point of a Friday the 13th movie... I can appreciate them wanting to do something different, but as far as I can see it's the wrong sort of different (like, say, Jason in space...) The psychological terror of Jason developed in Part V is a kind of different that I welcomed.

I also didn't like a lot of the gaps in logic. I still don't understand why the doctor ate the heart for example.

I believe I saw the R-rated one, not the unrated uncut one.

The coroner eats the heart, because when it starts beating, it hypnotizes him. Unless I am mistaken, but it sounds to me as if the film focuses on the beats of the heart.

I won't deny that there are holes in the film, and the are questions raised about the Voorhees family, that don't match up with what we learn up to this point.

The major difference in two cuts can be seen when Jason (as the coroner), interrupts the couple having sex in the tent. It is a more brutal kill in the unrated cut.

Just back from what was announced before it's presentation as the possible only screening in the world (outisde the U.S) of a stunning new digital restoration of Michael Mann's 1995 crime thriller masterpiece Heat at the Leeds Film Festival.

As someone who was lucky enough to witness it on the big screen on the original release over 21 years ago. I've watched it numerous times on VHS, DVD and Blu ray but nothing can come to close viewing this on the big screen with a stunning new digitally mastered soundtrack.

I have to say considering it was the was the only screening of this in the UK so far there were a lot of empty seats, more fool those who missed it. A big thank you to LIFF team for such a great presentation of this undisputed cinematic gem.

Casablanca - still an amazing movie that is so well scripted and has the prefect cast.

Guess who is coming to dinner - Spencer Tracy & Hepburn in this amazing movie about bigotry.

Child 44 - An Russian whodunit about the killing of children that of course is denied in the Socialist paradise/ Decent movie I guess.

A view to a kill - Moore last outing that has touches of the Moonraker novel. especially in the person played by Christopher Walken who plays essentially plays the millionaire who gets caught cheating before wanting to destroy Silicon Valley. A fairly good actioner and Tanya Roberts is hot. Well scripted and some great stunts and excellent music from the master Barry.

Enjoyed Romancing the Stone (1984); fun, lighthearted 80s adventure flick.

    13 Hours (2016)

One of my favorites of the year. Spectacular directing from Michael Bay (yes) who delivers a no-nonsense brutal war film with a good 2 hours of non-stop shootouts and gut wrenching tension during the attack and defense of the CIA compound in Benghazi. Good acting, powerful soundtrack and a lot of very intense battle scenes.

How far into the film do Optimus and the rest of the Autobots show up?

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7 ;) Thankfully this is a Bay film where he gets close to his best ('The Rock' with Cage and Connery, although '13 Hours' is a lot more serious).

I'll have to check it out sometime, as Bay has long inspired little confidence in me beyond his 90s work. The CGI age has ruined him, or him it. I'm not sure.

@DaltonCraig007 That is without a doubt my favorite Bay film. And yes, I know how that sounds.
  • Jason X
It had a nice death of Jason freezing a woman's face with nitrogen before slamming her face into pieces of ice and blood on the counter. The rest I wish I could live without. And don't even get me started on Uber Jason. A girl in the film rightly puts "This sucks on so many levels," just before her death and what feels like the qualitative death of the franchise. I rank it marginally higher than Jason Goes to Hell because it at least had more Jason on screen and a sympathetic character in Rowan, but the franchise's golden era (The Final Chapter to The New Blood) is long gone. I suppose I blame New Line Cinema.

    0/10

    Ranking:
    Jason Lives
    A New Beginning
    The Final Chapter
    The New Blood
    Part Two
    Friday the 13th
    Jason Takes Manhattan
    Part Three
    Jason X
    Jason Goes to Hell

I might hold off watching Freddy vs Jason until watching some movies with the former character, so the reboot is next.
  • If you watch the Freddy reboot first, Freddy vs Jason will look like Shakespeare!

I got twenty minutes into the Freddie reboot and had to switch it of, it was pretty poor the film was notable for a early role for Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance from Arrow).

    We just watched X-Men: Apocalypse.
As an X-Men comic book fan from back in the 80's I have to say while flawed, I did love this film.
I appreciated that it went to pains to tie them all together.
The (won't say who) cameo was severely cool.

    DOCTOR STRANGE

For any Marvel fan, this is unmissable. Good cast, impressive effects, lots of humour, the Giacchino score is effective.

'Frenzy'... a briliant piece of Hitchcock brilliance, made in 1972,also giving a nice colour look of London back then....i recognise a lot of the places....classic.

I enjoyed Hitchcock last two films rewatched Frenzy recently it stands up well on Bluray, Frenzy and Family Plot were a kinda of return to form for me after two of Hitch's worse films.

  • A Hard Day's Night, the first Beatles movie and a bona fide musical masterpiece as a movie and as an album. However, as a movie, I prefer Yellow Submarine despite the band almost not having any creative input beyond a number of songs and a small cameo.

I'll just say this. If we don't get Villeneuve on board for a Bond film, I will regard it as a major missed opportunity.

Decided to give Raging Bull (1980) a second watch. One of my better decisions of recent memory; sometimes I need a second watch to fully enjoy and appreciate a film. This film is devastating. But it's a story that needed to be told - on the screen. It's really something special.

I can understand why some call it Scorsese's ultimate achievement. Its raw, emotional power alone is staggering. Taxi Driver is my preference, but they're both excellent.

Forgot to post that I saw Inferno (2016) last wednesday.

I really liked it, my 2nd favorite Langdon film after 'Angels & Demons'. It was a total blast seeing Tom Hanks return as Langdon again. Even with some big budget contraints, the 3 major locations (Florence, Venice and Istanbul) looked stunning. Lots of chase scenes, and Hanks is still a legend when he has to decipher and solve the mysteries that are in front of him. Very cool supporting cast, especially thanks to Omar Sy and Irffan Khan. I hope we get to see Hanks as Langdon another time, as there is another novel they haven't adapted yet.
