Man of Steel watching first time on my 4k TV eyes popped out of my head during Krypton sequence, love Man of Steel severely underrated.

Oh my lord this film looks amazing, the school bus sequence classic Superman. Personally in retrospect this film is a work of art, one of the best Superhero movies.

It was highly enjoyable. Even going in with high expectations it was still better than I expected! Will be buying for sure down the road.

Can't understand the flak this film gets.

While the 70's Superman film will never be beaten in my eyes by ANY superhero film, Man Of Steel was a very good new take on the Superman legend.

I like the way the film jumps from time frame to time frame without a hiccup.

    The Taking of Deborah Logan

Surprisingly, this was a really great horror film.

Man of Steel is a lot better than the 70s and 80s films, and this is coming from someone who grew up at the time as a massive fan.

    I'm watching Stealth.

I swear, when this is over I will never say anything rude about DAD ever again.

@Agent_99, I watched STEALTH back in the day because a friend of mine insisted it had the best Jessica Biel performance in it. We hardly ever spoke each other after that. You're right. Compared to STEALTH, DAD is Oscar worthy.

    Summertime a.k.a. Summer Madness (1955)
    z5jIr29.jpg

I just finished this David Lean directed romance drama starring Katherine Hepburn. Based on a play by Arthur Laurents (of West Side Story fame) entitled The Time of the Cuckoo, it's expertly filmed entirely on location in Venice, with superb cinematography by Jack Hildyard (who also did Bridge on The River Kwai with Lean). Hepburn plays Jane Hudson, a middle aged single secretary, who is on her dream vacation in Italy. She's saved up for this trip for years, and intends to make the most of it. While staying at a local Pensione (owned by Ms. Fiorini, played by Isa Miranda), she befriends a local chlid Mauro who hangs around the canals, meets a few fellow travelers (all of whom are attached) & eagerly takes in the lovely local sights with her trusty cine-camera. While independent & spirited, Jane is also lonely, and Hepburn conveys this isolated wistfulness very well. Fortunately for Jane this is Italy, and soon enough she meets antiques dealer Renato de Rossi (played by a charming Rossano Brazzi) who takes an interest in her. The remainder of the film focuses on their whirlwind romance, sadly doomed from the beginning due to the fact that he is married with kids.

This film really showcases Venice beautifully, which perhaps shouldn't come as a surprise given Lean is involved. The city almost becomes a character in itself, with the narrow canals, numerous bridges and Piazza San Marco serving as majestic backdrops for the story. Hepburn gives an engaging performance as the enthusiastic, folksy & yet somewhat awkward Jane. As mentioned, she conveys her character's sad loneliness very well. The film itself is a not really my cup of tea, being a bit schmaltzy for my palate, but there's no denying the excellence of Hepburn's Oscar nominated performance or the beauty of Venice, expertly brought to life by Lean (also nominated) & Hildyard. Apparently, this is one of Lean's personal favourites.

Yes, this has been quite an experience so far. I've avoided so many of these classics for too long, and am glad to finally be watching them!

David Lean without a doubt one of the greatest directors, everyone needs to watch Lawerence of Arabia on 4K it's astonishing, I studied Lean's Great Expectations at college a fantastic film, never seen Summertime will have to look out for it.

    Die Hard 2
I had my best viewing of this movie, It's really underrated and just as good as the first I'd say. I really love how you can feel how much time goes by in the first two movies. It feels like you're watching the whole thing unfold in it's elapsed time.
  • Die Hard 2 is better even more so because of recent efforts in the series, I bought the Die Hard boxset on BD last year, the first three films are good quality.

I've always really enjoyed DH2 as well. The action is great and while there isn't anyone with Alan Rickman's firepower in it, they make up for it with a bevy of baddies including William Sadler, John Amos & of course Franco Nero. McClane is a bit of a superhero in this one, but the wise cracks are off the charts & it's got great pacing. Love it.

I used to have a love hate relationship with 2 but It's really grown on me. I rate it as good as the first. Though Die Hard 3 I don't like so much. It's not bad but there is just something about it I don't like. This is how I'd rank them.

    1. Die Hard
    2. Die Hard 2
    3. Live Free or Die Hard
    4. Die Hard With A Vengeance
    5. Crackerjack

I don't consider A good day to kill the franchise an entry in the series. :P
  • My rating..

    Die Hard 2

    Harsh. But fair.

I moved on to Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood. I'm not a huge Western fan (boyfriend's pick) and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it all that much, but it was a great watch with an unexpected appearance by Richard Kiel as a bonus.

Dredd - Carl Urban is Dredd in an excellent movie, this one is one of my favorite comic movies. There should be a sequel.

@SaintMark, agreed. The movie is bold, exciting and kudos to Urban for never taking off his mask. I respect that.

While Stallone's version was amusing, it was far from being truthful to the source material. Urban's Dredd on the other hand was 100% what the comic visualized its story for us. Even though a petition was signed from many thousands of fans, they announced they won't be making the sequel. Sadly to say.

Like so many other terrific movies, it was a huge flop. Last I heard there was talk of a straight to dvd sequel. I guess it is better than nothing. Here is hoping.

I really enjoyed Stallone's version. "I am the loeuww!!!". Assante hammed it up beautifully, and Diane Lane is always worth watching. Which reminds me, that film also had the foster brother nonsense. It was tired even back in 1995.

I hated that version. I found it laughable at best.
