Just re-reading a book called "Save the Cat" which has become required reading for budding scriptwriters (its also just great for movie fans). The author says that one of the best bits of advice he ever received was from a movie exec who said "Give me the same..but different".
So it was with great interest that I re-watch Olympus tonight as it clearly fits that billing. The best thing I can say about the film is that it reminds you how great Die Hard was/is. It also reminds you of, even in deadly action, you need some level of humour and you need character depth, even with the bad guy. Hans Gruber had some of the best lines in the film and was portrayed superbly by Rickman. An action movie can only be as good as the bad guy. Olympus falls short in this area (plus many others).
So my love of 80s action continues and films like Olympus fall by the wayside. But as a side note, according to IMDB, Olympus made a decent profit so why re-invent the wheel?
P.s. BVS is incredibly well shot
Batman is totally ruthless, any superhero or anti-hero has to reflect the age it exists in. Then counter it...
Lawerence of Arabia one of the most visually stunning films of all time, second watch in 4K still amazed.
...feelings crushed after La La Land (2016) Oscars mix/up!!! :((
'Moonlight' was my second favorite of the year behind 'Silence.' Terrific film.
I kept imagining Donald Trump as one of the jurors though :))
That's what it definitely needs. Fonda's role would be played by Shia LeBeouf and the film would have more swearing and one big breasted female juror* who unbuttons her blouse as tensions mount and things get heated
*(the title can be changed).
Now this is more like it, Ocean's 11 on wheels. Jordana Brewster, Gal Gadot and Elsa Pataky... how come none of these lovely ladies found their way into a Bond film?
1. Fast Five (2011)
2. Fast & Furious (2009)
3. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
4. The Fast And The Furious (2001)
Clearly the best film in the franchise. Lots of fun.
"Hey Mia, better hide your baby oil!"
"You better hide that big ass forehead!"
Silence (2016) was excellent. Glad I found someone else here who liked it.
Never thought I'd see an "underrated" Scorsese film, but given that it was all but looked over (no doubt due to a lack of marketing and a shortened release schedule), I'd say it's underrated. Blew me away, from the acting to the cinematography and direction.
You forgot The Rock, @MajorDSmythe. Not a lovely lady but one hell of a contribution to the series. ;-)
You're in for a treat when you catch the other Scorsese films, @007ClassicBondFan
I think Goodfellas is his best. I'd also recommend;
Taxi Driver
Mean Streets
The King of Comedy
Raging Bull
After Hours
Casino
Gangs Of New York
The Lego Batman movie : Charming, fun and very, very funny
I have Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Casino all on my upcoming watch list, but I'll have to add these others too!
Meanwhile, last night I watched the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde. The movie was so thrilling and exciting. I was on the edge of my seat every second. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunnaway both gave great performances, as did Gene Hackman. Also I loved the little role Gene Wilder played. Favorite scene with him was after he found out just how old his wife was.
Doctor Strange Well that was awesome
Great performance from Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling wasn't too amazing in this to be honest. The songs were really good, the score was grand. The directing and cinematography were top notch aswell.
Might watch some more movies from 2016, but here is my top 10 as of now.
1. Zootopia
2. La La Land
3. Arrival
4. Kubo and the Two Strings
5. Sing Street
6. Manchester by the Sea
7. Nocturnal Animals
8. Hell or High Water
9. Moana
10. The Edge of Seventeen
Trust me, Good fellas will remain your number one. It's an absolute classic and Marty's best. The film is brutal and hilarious at the same time and is a film I revisit regularly. It's a damn near masterpiece.
All right, it's obvius that, from the short time it lasted (1 hour 25 minutes) to the lack of blood to the too cute baby dinosaurs, it was geared toward children, but I liked it. But after all, I'm a fan of the series. Got all the DVDs, and even went to the arena show the second time it came to Paris, so of course, I was geared to like it. Plus, as I said earlier, I got the DVD on the (very) cheap, so it was at least good value for money.
Wow! This film is amazing! Fox Studios congrats. From start to finish this film grabbed you by the throat and held on. The brutality from the opening scene to the endearing moments between Logan, professor X and Laura; this film didn't just kick ass but also landed emotional punches to the gut. Hugh Jackman killed it as Logan, watching him reminded me of Old Snake (MGS4), Joel (The Last Of Us) and of course Wolverine. This is a no nonsense, no bullshit film that was well deserved for Jackman and EoN, take notes, if your leading actor is doing his final film, you make it damn good and give him a tremendous send off. I'm seeing this again at the end of the week.
9/10
The Godfather - An epic not surpassed movie that togehter with its sequel are so brilliant that only "Once upon a time in America" by Leone comes close. Always a pleasure seeing this very well made movie.
