@Lancaster007, I suppose it's not so much a "boycott" as it is a preference. Plus, when I typically cave and buy a particular version of something, a better version almost always becomes available once I do.

How frequent are these comic strip appearances? Are they jarring at all? I don't even know what to base it off of, I just heard negative opinions on it in the past, which had me avoiding the blu-ray, but if it really isn't that big of a deal, maybe I'll bite finally.

    The Neon Demon.
Being a fan of Italian horror alla Dario Argento/Mario Bava/Lucio Fulci I had a great time with this flick. I was thrilled by its use of lightning, colours, camera angles, synth music, beautiful girls and insane storytelling.

I've been in the mood for Ridley Scott movies lately - one of my favorites directors. Going to watch Legend (1985) for the first time here - director's cut.

EDIT: Nevermind; have to settle for the theatrical edition I guess. Can't find the director's cut anywhere online :(

Disney really are intent on milking the Star Wars cash cow dry aren't they?

Really struggled to get through this pointless film.

Great special effects and production design and a really good score.

Shame about the horribly PC and shallow characters, the godawful CGI Moff Tarkin (photoreal CGI humans still a way off), the repetitive action, the naff 'homages', and the fact that the whole thing has little excitement value and is overlong.

Think i'll give the 'Han Solo' movie a wide berth....

We are of a mind on this.

If you're angry at this stage, just wait. You'll get a young Han, Yoda, Obi Wan, Leia and Fett film after all these films are done. Then you'll get spin-offs that fit between those films, and spin-offs branching off those films.

It helps that I'm thankfully immune to the overhyped allure of Star Wars, and none of this bugs me too much. Hearing about the films incessantly, however, is a plight I still suffer through.

Just finished the theatrical Legend (1985). I found it to be a flawed, but fun movie! Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness was a great highlight. I have to see the Director's Cut.

Oh I'm sure Disney have barely started milking Star Wars for all its worth.

It just sucks all the mystery out of what's gone before. No doubt the Han Solo movie will feature the 'Kessell Run' in all it's glory because Han Solo mentioned it in A New Hope.

The Alien films are also in danger of doing the same thing. I don't care where the eggs came from. Surely that's all part of the Aliens mystique, is that we no nothing about their origins?

    Is nothing sacred?!!!!

@LeonardPine, I understand that perspective. I think it's a guarantee at this point that the Solo film will not only show the run, but also show Han winning the Falcon from Lando, likely during their first meeting over that game.

Those moments you hear about in one line dialogues may work much better as unexplored adventures that kind of lose their mystery and intrigue by being played out as you say. But again, these movies aren't made for me so I can't accurately chart how a Star Wars fan would feel about all this besides those that post here. I definitely think it'll get out of control, but Disney have to own and milk everything, so this is all par for the course. And they'll make instant billions doing it.

Gods of Egypt This movie is bad though surprisingly entertaining, there are some good visuals and its inventive. If you can switch your brain off you can have some fun with this film, It's much better than recent attempts in this genre like Wrath of the Titans.

    I liked both Titans movies.

er…three movies, don't forget the original Ray Harryhausen epic from the early 80s!

I know, but I haven t seen that one.

Yeah you're right about the Falcon being won being in the film as they have cast the Lando part, @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, so there goes the mystery out of that line of dialogue.

To be honest I'm not a massive Star Wars fan apart from loving the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. Two films that I think are the greatest fantasy films ever made. And seeing them as a child they made a big impact on me.

The rest of them I can take or leave to be honest and I'm not a fan of Return Of The Jedi either. Too stupid and childish.

So the thought of more spin-offs just doesn't appeal. And I certainly won't feel the need to see them just because they have the Star Wars name attached.

Vastly superior to the two hyperkinetic recent entries, I'd say.

Not jarring at all @Creasy, they just happen as transitions between some scenes and are like freeze frames made into comic strip panels. I was sceptical at first but once I viewed it I quite liked it. Don't suppose the original theatrical version will ever be released again.

Well I think Refn had a good look at more than a few Italian horror classics, so yeah it includes some pretty weird stuff. The question is, have you ever seen films like The Whip and the Body (aka La frusta e il corpo), Suspiria or The Beyond (aka E tu vivral nel terror! L'aldilà) and did you like it?

If so, I'm sure you will like The Neon Demon. Maybe you should give (one of) those three eurohorrors a chance first, to warm your appetite ;)

I'm a big fan of stylish Eurohorrors, especially those of the early 70s Two of my favourites being Lisa And The Devil & Barron Blood, both directed by Mario Bava, and both starring Elke Sommer.

As for The Beyond, I give it :-bd. David Warbeck and a supply of zombies. What's not to love?

@Lancaster007, duly noted! Guess I'll be picking it up here in the near future, as I've actually been wanting to rewatch it later, and there's no better way to do that than in blu-ray quality.

The Warriors looks stunning on Bluray!

Those comic panels in the film are pretty silly, but they don't detract from enjoying the film, and they are few and far between.

I enjoyed this. Some parts felt a bit rushed and I would have liked to see the core characters as well developed as the animated movie. Still, I was entertained and Luke Evans as Gaston was perfect; it'd be casting coup if Marvel could cast him as Namor.

    BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Beautiful film! And oh god, those backwards people who complain about gay characters complain about absolutely nothing but one single moment of eye contact at the very end of the movie.

Go watch this film if you're feeling romantic.

Star Trek Insurrection It's been a while since I watched it, quite enjoyed it this time round. Despite being low in my Trek rankings it's better than most other Sci fi, it's not as cinematic as some other Trek films though it would be seen as a good Next Generation episode. Forgot how great Goldsmiths Score is, just ordered the Soundtrack on CD as well as the other Next Generation movie scores.

Rogue one, unlike some I enjoyed this Star Wars tie in. Not a fantastic movie
    But fun in places.
XXX The return of Xander Cage: a popcorn action movie, doesn't make a lot
Of sense and the ending borrows much from DAD.

Saw Beauty and the Beast (2017) last night. Thought it was decent, but I still much prefer the 1991 version.

    Educating Rita (1983)

Thought I'd watch this to mark Lewis Gilbert's recent 97th birthday. Never seen it before and enjoyed it.

Charming performances from both Michael Caine and Julie Walters. The only downside I felt was Jeananne Crowley as Caine's unfaithful girlfriend.
