Well what can I say? The film is, erm, sinister. The best horrors are those that build the tension up through music/creeping about, not gore and blood. Sinister does have some chilling scenes that are graphic but it doesn't dictate the film. I'd recommend to go and see it. Certainly the best horror I have ever seen at the cinema
Enjoyed this film very much with it's great characters ,humour, specials effects ,Scarlett johansson and more.
10/10
Watched the Original Robocop from 1987 earlier today. Verhoeven's greatest hour in movie making I feel, whatever they finally put together for the next release, it will never be better than the original. Kurtwood Smith would of made a decent Bond villain, really radiated menace in that release
Plot of final countdown the movie is the uss nimitz gets dragged into a time vortex/wormhole taken from 1980 back in time to 1941, a few hours before the attack on pearl harbour. the film makers had full support from the navy and the navy is the star in this movie.
It does sound like a good movie though
Jaws
Prometheus
The James Bond 50th Anniversary Box Set
since i've frequently seen all the Bonds and Jaws - i decided to thrown on Prometheus, since I had only seen it once and that was back when it debuted.... as much as I liked it when it was released, I like it still just the same - and is probably now one of my favorites of all time.....IMO, i think it's smartly written - in that you walk in expecting answers and direct connections to the original Alien film, and it pulls the wool over your eyes, and gives you more questions than answers.... the mark of a great movie in my opinion, is one that not only can polarize an audience - but also one that keeps them talking about it well after leaving the theater.... it is a film that presents more questions than answers - but i think that is part of it's genius, it's daring you to think for yourself instead of force feeding you all the answers in a very black and white manner....... i very much look forward to a sequel - if Scott ever gets around to it.
While not based on any of the games it had memorable moments of the games sprinkled throughout the film. A nice little popcorn movie.
Very funny movie. 8/10
Seriously this was the film that people were wetting their pants over this summer, I guess I should have known really by the level of box office grosses this film attained that it wasn't going to be my cup of tea. Practically no plot whatsoever and apart from some sharp dialogue with Downey Jnr. and the ever reliable Mark Ruffalo as the new Banner, the script was very poor. I will say they've lucked out with Ruffalo his casting, he's easily the best fit for the role of Banner/Hulk yet.
I found myself checking the time quite a bit and the climatic G.G.I soaked finale just went on forever. Hiddleston is OK as Loki but his computer generated army were just visually and physically underwhelming. I actually thought I was going to watch this and feel like I really should have seen this on the big screen but you know what I'm glad I saved my money.
Despite liking a certain character very much in previous films when it came to their fate being the catalyst of the superheroes being bought together as a cohesive unit to fight the enemy I never felt any great sense of loss that the film intended or it grabbed emotionally at any point. There is some rare moments that raised a smile but from the very beginning it's all over the place, maybe I need more of a background to these characters and to have read the comics but I had no problem with The X-men or Batman, maybe it's too grounded in those universes for me, Nolan was criticised for his stories not being like the literary version and upsetting many a purist but I found his Batman films far more compelling and entertaining than this meandering mess of a film. Whedon's involvement might have made the fans get excited but for me he's got far too much going on and it's just confusing most of the time. Jackson's Nick Fury ambiguous motives hint at something intriguing but are never really given much room to breathe and character development is pretty much zero.
I don't think The Dark Knight Rises was the second coming and my favourite film of the summer is still The Raid but really I wasn't expecting such a bloated uninteresting film as this. It's clearly far too long and could have been under 2 hours easily. I just think I've come to the end of the line with these Marvel films, I though Captain America was utter garbage and while I don't think it's as bad as Cap it's about on par with Iron Man 2, I enjoyed The Incredible Hulk and Thor much more and the first Iron Man still remains my favourite from this franchise, as these films have gone on they've got bigger but dumber.
I'm sure this franchise will go on to gross billions but with Nolan's Bat trilogy now over I very much doubt bar the new Superman film next year that I'll be paying to watch any more comic book films again. With Dark Knight Rises slightly disappointing me and this mess of a film I say it's all still to play for when it comes to the most impressive blockbuster of the year especially when we have The Hobbit and the return of a certain British Secret Agent to come.
2.5/5
Never really liked it, still don't. Imo the only good Predator film is the first one. Why is it so hard to make a good sequel?
What a classic!!! :-))
;-)
Anyway, Forbidden Planet (1956)
I've watched this film in the double digits by now and I can't get enough of it. Sure, we have Robby the robot, Leslie Nielsen and a flying saucer and thus many people are lured into thinking this is one of those played-for-laughs, silly and OTT science fiction comedies from the fifties. That, however, isn't the case.
Despite its good sense of humour, FP is an intelligent, almost actionless example of hard Asimovian SciFi, the type I prefer overall. Walter Pidgeon's magnificent Dr. Morbius talks in broad detail about the superior Krell civilisation that suffered destruction upon its own rapid power expansion. We, as people, though presented as being of a fairly humble intellect compared to that of the Krell, can only mirror ourselves to their downfall in the light of our current superiority complex.
By the same token, we have Anne Francis' beautiful but rather innocent Alta, a woman whose world is put upside down by the arrival of the military. An invasion of such power display, though by no means violent, effectively ends every bit of utopian peace she and her father had hitherto been allowed to experience.
With beautiful images and a curiously ambient score by Louis and Bebe Barron, who practically introduced electronic film scores, FB is a SciFi treasure. Though it does sometimes resort to various common tropes in the genre and doesn't quite take itself fully seriously in every scene, the overall experience is heaven to those who enjoy the indulgences of intelligent, hard science fiction. In its genre it is by no means up there on the level of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but it certainly is an audiovisual stunner given its time and it carries the sweet nostalgia of the 1950s SciFi genre, combined with a few timeless themes that should keep us all thinking about our world, habits and technological advances.
A very thought provoking film, and very timely for my life. I, like Ben, am unsure and nervous about the future. This was a very good film, and it isn't until the end until you realize why it is so revered. The performances are solid, and the film is a perfect mix of comedy and drama. A classic tale of youth, with mixing of neurosis, regret, fear and all the emotions a person going into adulthood experiences.
A very revolting yet compelling film. Garners some rewatches in the future.
6/10
Nowhere near as good as I was hoping but still worth a rental, if you want a decent scare.
Malcolm Tucker on the big screen

Deadlier Than the Male http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadlier_Than_the_Male
I really like this movie, although I've only seen it once. However that was enough for remember it as something very special, perhaps because of my personal life at that moment.
Exactly my point. My life is a lot like Ben and Elaine's. Full of mystery, fear, regret, and yet some desire to be hopeful, though it may seem hard. The ending is what makes it the classic it is.
There was a scene when a group of offical looking men were walking dramatically along a corridoor and one of them says:
"God I miss the cold war"
I was genuinely stunned :-O Where have I heard that line (or rather a variation of it) before :-?
10/10
Christ, I miss the Cold War - M (Judi Dench), Casino Royale (2006), perhaps?
Boring film which is overated. 5/10
The sea wolves, not watched this since i was a kid, really enjoyed this movie, Roger Moore is in great form.
If you haven't seen it and like prison dramas then this is a must see.
