De Palma sparked my interest in cinema as a teenager. One of my all time favourite directors.
His set pieces and camera work have always been incredibly skillful. His use of split screen and slow motion are genius.
His nightmare sequence in 'Sisters' is one of the most terrifying scenes in cinema.
He has made some lemons but so many brilliant films as well.
Carrie
Sisters
Dressed To Kill
Blow Out
Scarface
Carlito's Way
The Untouchables
Mission Impossible
Add Casualties of War to that, for me anyway.
It wasn't bad but I'm not a fan of that film.
Such a brilliant little film I love the movie and the soundtrack (huge yes fan) over all I feel like this is overlooked beck my wife who is huge into the 70’s music scene never heard of it till I got it for her for Saint Nick’s day
I give it a strong recommend

I haven't seen sisters yet. I'll have to watch one day on your recommendation.
It is a great movie. Awesome soundtrack.
@FoxRox
Are you referring to the Margot Kidder film made by De Palma? I quite like that one. I keep the score in heavy rotation, in fact. Quite atmospheric. Simple, yet eerie.
And William Finley just creeps me out.
I watched this documentary last year, its pretty good. Its bound to be on one of the streaming services I watched it on Amazon Prime.
Along with The Untouchables, I think Blow Out and Scarface are his best films, that I have seen.
It’s truely a great film
Been wanting to see this one for a long time, but hadn't had the opportunity before now. It's a good crime drama where the setting and the undertones takes more of the focus than the murder mystery itself. It certainly works, and the film is an interesting watch. I'll give the sequels a watch too eventually.
Excellent Polish film from Pawel Pawlikowski set in 1950’s Europe about the love between a gifted pianist who flees to Western Europe and a singer who stays behind in the Eastern Bloc.
Full of breathtaking black and white cinematography and beautiful music, but also with an engaging and very ‘European’ love story (as in not cringeworthy or bittersweet like in so many Hollywood productions).
Awarded with Best Director at Cannes.
Recommended.
Blow Out is an exceptional thriller. One of John Travoltas best roles!
Scarface is good, but it is ludicrous in places particularly that ending ("I take your bulleh"!!)
I haven't seen Blow Out yet. Another one i'll have to watch.
This is my favourite film so far this year. I really was quite taken aback at how beautiful it was.
Essential De Palma. I'm quite envious that you will be seeing these for the first time
One of De Palma's best films. A Tarantino favourite.
Are Blow Out, Sisters, and Scarface better than Tarantino films in your opinion ?
If only they could erase your movie memory so you can watch these for the first time again. :)
Come on scientists ,do something. :)
Glad you enjoyed it @CraigMooreOHMSS! Apparently it got an 18 minute standing ovation at the Cannes film festival and I’d say rightfully so.
I read some good things about this, and about Louis Jourdan s performance, but this was really poor. Jourdan was one of the worst Draculas. I like his castle, though.
For a television production, I thought it was decent enough. Not a high bar, though. ;-)
There are some good ideas here and there, and it is pretty faithful to the novel, but yes. What to expect from 70s television? I like the American tv movie with Palance better. At least he was a formidable Dracula.
However, I find it more true to the novel than most versions, including the Coppola film.
I like Jourdan's Dracula, though. He's so understated and oily, especially with Harker in the early scenes. However, I can appreciate why some might not warm to his Count. He doesn't pose a physical threat like Palance, or Lee. He's in no way made up to resemble the novel's Count, and I don't think he could have pulled that off without looking ridiculous. Still I love his Dracula for what he is, essentially an aging matinee idol with fangs.
The production design I love, bring shot in Whitby at some of the locations the book takes place. I also like the costuming. Jourdan is clothed in black as in the novel, and wears the cloak sparingly.
The are some similarities to the Coppola version: Lucy's gradual transformation.
My favorite Dracula movies and interpretations are the ones I grew up with, and didn't catch this until I was an adult, so I don't have the nostalgia factor here.
You know people say why can’t we have an adaptation of moonraker or a redo of Goldfinger honestly why aren’t people clamoring for another From Russia with Love.
The film is brilliant thrilling dark interesting and quite possible my second favorite bond film at the very least it’s my favorite Connery film
