Is that the movie thats the return of Director Richard Stanley, he of Hardware fame!
He got fired from the remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau and sneaked back onto the set dressed as an extra .. or so the story goes!
It is that same Richard Stanley, yes. :)
I rate the film very highly; it is, by all means, my second favourite of the five adaptations of Lovecraft's story (with the British spelling of 'Colour').
I think if i remember correctly he also directed a horror film called Dust Devil which wasn't half bad as i remember....
Yes, seen that. Not bad, but I preferred Hardware, though its years since I watched it, so it probably hasn't aged well!
The strangely fascinating and tragic story about the disturbed kids in Mayhem.
Rambo II , 4/6.....Berkoff is all right as the (yet again) Soviet bad guy
I only just recently seen the alternative ending of the original First Blood, where Rambo actually gets Col. Trautman to shoot him dead!
Have to say it doesn't work and they were right to go with the chosen ending of him being led away by the cops!
I loved this. Funny, interesting and moving. Learning that Laurel kept writing material for Laurel and Hardy since Hardy s death in 1957 all the way until he passed himself in 1965, I wish steve Coogan and John C. Reilly would bring some of that to life. They nailed the parts. Bring on board that MacPherson fellow in the role of Finlayson while at it.
That was the book's ending.
Fittingly, Rambo: Last Blood. Terrible way to cap off the character, but at least Stallone was in top form.
21 Bridges. A bit simpler than the blurb on the DVD makes it sound, it was still an excellent cop action/drama.
For example Presley signature in sharpie , afaik they didnt become popular until after Presley died....
Rambo III , 4/6
Much better than expected. I didn t bother seeing this in the cinema after watching the trailers. The thing is, they only highlighted the really bad stuff. A bit disturbing that the parasite sounds like Satan.
True this is a mini series not a film but overall this is great I feel the acting is strong the cast is good it gets a little melodramatic toward the end and much like the play it ends on a bit of downer and a lot of the members post David Ruffin get the shaft but overall enjoyable
Mild recommend

While this is big brassy entertainment, it hasn't aged well. It's shallow script has nothing to say about prohibition or Al Capone. He's nothing but a monstrous caricature in this.
But then that's not the point of the film. As one critic pointed out back in the day, "This is nothing more than Miami Vice in period dress" which is pretty spot on.
The cast are excellent and as a result make this hugely enjoyable. Obviously the stand out is Connery, but they all do their bit.
The station slow motion shootout is De Palma at his most indulgent, but its such a ballsy sequence you have to admire him.
The courtroom scenes are farcical and doesn't climax the film well. Still an enjoyable watch even if time hasn't been kind.
Vividly remember seeing it in the cinema! There were hoots and whooping in the audience, positively lapping it up!
Agree it has not aged well, but I love Morricones bombastic score!
Donner would have made four or five movies if allowed he was so invested in the character and doing it right.

Superman: Red Son
DC have a high bar with there animated films, this is one of the best I have seen in a few years.

Brightburn
This has been done before and done better, not much depth in this film I was a bit bored watching it.

Oh it was a great time in the cinema. The audience when I saw it clapped when Stone saved the pushchair.
Agree, the score is fantastic. One of the best of the 80's.
Such a good film, though. It's almost entirely fictional but damn, it's so well directed. The acting is great, even if some of the "oirish" stuff is poor.
It'd have been a totally different film if Costner's version Ness was anything like his real life counterpart.
Crowd I was with cheered when Ness throws Niti off the roof!!!
Yep.
Frank Gorshin is great in it!
Beautiful, fascinating and tragic horror film, as is usual with del Toro in charge. He remains one of my favourite filmmakers and this may be the best film that came out that year.
Tiresome and totally pointless.
A forgotten film? More people have officially played Bond, than have reviewed this on the IMDB. Not surprising that this was penned by Callan creater, James Mitchell, as there are similarites. Both feature a seasoned spy at the heart of the story, a mistrusting boss, and even a younger spy who so desperately want to take the place of his better.
Stanley Baker is John Craig, a season British agent, sent to find a Russian scientist. Criag is told by his boss Loomis (Donald Pleasance), that two younger agents, Royce (Derren Nesbitt), and Benson (Sue Lloyd) are also on the same mission but are decoys. What Craig doesn't know is that he is the decoy, and has to get to the scientist first, picking up a hostage played by geraldine Chaplin, to bargain his way of of the spy business. Also stars Cec Linder, and Vladeck Sheybal. Cinder makes more of an impression here, as nasty piece of work, then he did as Felix Leiter. Not easily recommended. It depends on whether or not you like your spies with a business first attitude, and trading in charm with an extra course of hard bastard.
Baker did an exellent job, his tough stern features lent themselves pefectly to this kind of spy movie. Though one scene, not involving Baker's John Craig character, with some police, did feel a little out of place with its almost goofyness.
