The video got me curious enough to check out Haggis's non-Bond efforts. I remember watching Crash when I was like 16 after hearing all the buzz surrounding it. I got so offended after half an hour that I turned the thing off and started spitting feathers.
Well, after watching it last night I can safely say that I loved it. I didn't really want to, but I did. It is a rather cynical movie, but is also equally optimistic. It addresses the social disconnect that occurs in a large multicultural society where intolerance is in fact nothing more than ignorance. The whole notion surrounding the collisions that people manufacture essentially to bridge this disconnect was fascinating. The film's real skill relies on its well structured script which allows us to build initial impressions only for Haggis to subvert them or in some cases have his characters live up to them. The issues of race are obvious, but the film has a deeper more spiritual level and deals with themes such as redemption as Haggis has his character's lift the lid on the great unsaid. I didn't particularly agree with the movie all the time, but just because you don't agree totally with a film doesn't stop it from being great.

I love the way Haggis talks about Bond in CR. I'm convinced that character-wise, he is completely responsibility for why that film is so good.
I think he went off the boil with the sequel, clearly the success went to his head. Also it dosen't help that Forster had zero idea. But they should seriously consider getting Haggis and Martin Campbell back for Bond 25.
Clint Eastwood is still going, as is George Miller. Both have directed action recently.
Campbell would be the dream scenario. Haggis as well.
