Why do all the Americans say mate now? It's our word! Give it back! ;)

@thelivingroyale I only thought I'd better get in there before someone who meant it, said it.

    Well said SirHenry and Sandy.
I've never placed high emphasis on a Bond actor's looks myself after realizing I'd fallen into that trap before watching CR- I'm far more interested in substance of acting skills and depth of characterization that should be the real test for a Bond actor over caricatures and box ticking old traits.

    Substance over superficiality.

Amazingly some people value superficiality over substance though. Go figure, but it takes all sorts and all that.

@Sandy, me too - convinced after the PTS, and I would have gone as well, plus I'm equally worried. :)

People on the Pittsburgh side of PA call soda "pop" and sneakers "tennies". Cultural terminology and all that. But I'll go you one better and call English football "soccer" ;). I just can't call it football although I played for years in school. Not as manly as American football or British rugby, just my opinion. Maybe American rugby?

Daniel Craig, when playing Bond at least, displays a type of confidence not seen in the character for a long time in my opinion. Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, whilst good in their own different ways, always portayed a very confident Bond but it never felt natural or real. To me it always came across as an "I'm confident because I know this is a movie and I know I am not going to die, that I WILL get the girl because it says so in the script etc" sort of confidence. Daniel Craig as Bond displays a confidence that feels more real somehow, but it's difficult to explain!

    It is very funny.

Daniel is at best an average looking man playing a very handsome character. Yet so many people find him (subjectively speaking of course) rather pretty.

Daniel (if we were to compare his looks to a Bond film) is the Die Another Day of Bonds. Yes some people find it a very good film, a classic but the consensus (objectively concluded) is that it is a heap of steaming s*^t.

So many rose tinted glasses on this site when it comes to our Daniel. So very funny.

No rose tinted glasses here! When I went to watch CR I was uncertain about Craig, after the PTS I was sold on his Bond and by the time he asked Solange if she wanted to go to his place for a drink I almost shouted "I'll go!"

I for one find it funny like so many people are still in denial when it comes to Craig, but just look at how worried I am about them (:|

@SirHenryLeeChaChing and @thelordflasheart very good male perspectives, as always.

Ahhhh yes but by then the scene with Dan in his budgie smugglers had passed thus proving the point that all women love his body................. Right??

^^ No, not right. And it's not "all women", obviously. But if you refuse to get it, then it can't be helped, I guess. :) Maybe @RC7 knows you better than I do and this is what he meant... :P

(And btw, I thought Daniel's Ursula moment was funny, not hot. Maybe I'm just a freak, though. :D )

Ha ha, seriously, I believe you are above such lust but to suggest all Craig's fans love him purely because of his charm is a bit narrow-minded. This conversation is certainly heading in a peculiar direction. There are a lot of women who lust over Dan's body, period. I don't think that's a bad thing, after all, that's what movie stars are. Fantasies. It's all getting a bit conservative.

For those, who like him, its the whole package, that you cannot divide into groups of this is it or that. It all melts into one person, that some people don't like, while many others do. That simple.

@Tuulia - agree on his beach moment. Never been one of my favs...

I stand corrected, said the man in the orthopaedic shoe. I'd forgotten you speak for the entirety of human civilisation with regards Craig and his effect on his fellow man/woman.

I said "For those, who like him"

..since this doesn't apply to you, why do you feel the need to answer to this post? You just cannot resist me, don't you? I fail to feel flattered though.

Its funny, since YOU always do feel the need to tell evrybody, in which direction a post goes, how a person really feels, how everything is that or that. I repeat - read yourself and think twice, before you go on complaining about stuff, you do yourself ALL the time.

Sure you do and if, fine. Then we can rest our case once and for all. Its gonna be great times.

If Benny is around or another mod, both of us will get shut up in no time at all now.
So - before this happens, I am off to bed and happen to wish you all a good night.

@RC7, no, you misunderstood me. I'm not blind or anything, or "above such lust" (above?), geez. But neither am I narrow-minded, and definitely not conservative.

I was talking about that one scene, which I happen to find funny, not sexy. There are scenes in a couple of his other movies where he is completely naked (Love Is The Devil and Some Voices), where those scenes aren't sexy, nor are they meant to be. (A couple of other movies tho, the nude scenes are meant to be sexy, and indeed are.) The Ursula moment in CR might be meant to be sexy, too (apart from other things), and some people see it as such, but not everyone does, not even every heterosexual woman who thinks he's an exceptionally attractive man. And yes, he does have a beautiful body, I've already stated that, but that is not what makes him attractive in the first place. It goes beyond that. He's not more attractive without his clothes than he is in them (the same applies to other men as well, naturally). Maybe many men just can't understand that concept.

Stating the obvious here now, but I'm saying it anyway: these are my own opinions, and I'm not trying to speak for "all women", nor am I denying anyone's right to merely drool over anybody's body if they so wish. And no, of course there's nothing wrong with that, it just doesn't work that way for me, nor does it for any woman I know.

Many of my favorite characters, actors, filmmakers and writers are widely from over the pond, so it is natural that I would love the British dialect and all it encompasses.

I simply have a blast with some of the British slang and don't like to be seen as barmy just because I am a Yank using them. I'd be right chuffed if we could just have a few rounds of pints until we have to waz instead of acting all dicky to each other. Cheerio for now, chaps, mates, chums and birds. >:D<
  • Most definitely Lager. And ice cold at that. I've never understood how people could enjoy warm beer, nasty stuff.

Did I ever tell you about my paternal grandfather's family crest from his Welsh side? Gold lions on a red background, which I know denotes royalty/nobility. I was told as a child that we were descendants of the Alexanders of Maine as well as privateers. I'd have made a pretty good Brit, it sure is in my blood and according to the crest we are noble as well. I'm very proud of that, and perhaps it is part of why Bond resonates so well with me.

    @ Brady- great, funny post!

    Good man.

I don't know much about my ancestors on my dads side but my dad and granddad told me that I'm a descendant of Jamaican maroons (escaped slaves). I know literally nothing about my mums side apart from that her parents were Nigerian. My adoptive dad used to boast to me about being a descendant of a pirate but I'm pretty sure that was BS and my adoptive mum is Scottish and her parents owned a pub.

And that concludes thelivingroyale's family history. Not a descendant of royalty but like you but eh, I am half Jamaican, which I'm pretty proud of :)
  • Gotta appreciate a country where they gift you with ganja if they like you :) :) :)

It's actually the only family crest I have, and it is probably a century old. I think my blood is more noble rather than royal, although I couldn't say for sure.

My Mom was mostly German with one grandfather being half German and half what they call Scotch-Irish. Her father was Prussian German, the original family name beginning with the noble "Von" prefix. It seems I am noble on both sides.

One of my first cousins is half black by the way, and I love him as much as anyone in my family. And since we were talking about slang, I don't mean this to be derogatory in any way, but in the 1980's I was working for a retail music chain that had been purchased by an English company. It took me awhile to figure out what these guys were talking about when they used the term "darkies". Again if that's a bad term like the "N" word here, I apologize in advance.

Sean Connery made the Bond Character very attractive with his charming mannerisms, dialogue delivery and body language. His physique was amazing to fit the character as a hand in glove. His hairy chest and the neat shape of body to fit the tuxedo made him unique. When we see his successors as Bond naturally Connery's figure pops up for a comparison. The way he walked and had shown the facial expressions .... amazing! Connery integrated the features of Bond in the range of minus infinity to plus infinity while his successors being dy/dx of Connery they could only differentiate Bond features and never shown integration to this role. This only has made Connery to remain the numero uno alter ego of BOND and it is rightly captioned that Sean Connery IS James Bond while others are credited as Bond!!
Your appreciation for the iconic original Bond (Barry Nelson notwithstanding) is commendable. It will stead you well in life. Connery IS Bond. Truer words have never been spoken. In fact the Eon producers scrawled this all over the YOLT movie poster. The sentiment had become so obvious by then. The only Bond standard IMO that matters really, is how well does any given actor measure up on the Sean scale. Connery is the standard, not only in the looks department, but also in terms of performance, attitude, swagger, everything. Babs can dream. Her new wonder boy pales.
But of course Craig is attractive to women. That should be obvious. He keeps in shape. He's got a friendly manner about him. He seems smart enough. It's hardly a revelation that women might be drawn to him, but so what. Those of us that don't like him as Bond, really could care less that women might find him attractive. He's just not our cup of Bond.
btw, women do like nice cars. Pick a girl up in some heap and see what kind of look you get. Better off hiring a cab.
If you can wangle a date with a great looking, and seemingly uber-friendly girl like Denise Richards for example, it would behoove one to make sure one's car is gleaming and spotless inside. Anything less would rightly be insulting to her.
