  • Regarding Dark Knight Returns:
I have a question that (unless I missed it) wasn't addressed in the movie or comic:
In the beginning they mention that it's been 10 years since the last sighting of Batman, but did they ever actually go into exactly what happened to make him quit in the first place?

You might need to watch The Dark Knight mate!
And he was gone for 8 years.

Burton's Bat-flicks were far from perfect, but still the best so far. Nolan's last two make me appreciate Batman & Robin more.

@Master_Dahark, Bruce quit after Jason Todd's death ate away at him. Also, superheroes were outlawed, except for stupid Superman who was the government's boy scout.

I don't think it is openly said that it is the exact reason for his retirement, but Bruce talks a lot about Jason and his guilt so you kind of connect two and two together.
  • Thanks Brady- that does make sense. I easily forget this book came years before Tim Drake.

So if Bruce is 55 in Dark Knight Rises then that means he was Batman till age 45-- that's a good run. Better than in the Nolan movies where Bruce quits after being Batman around age 31/32 [-(

So if Bruce is 55 in Dark Knight Rises
    -Returns?
    Now I'm getting Bat-confused.

Heh heh, yeah, but casual Bat-fans would be scratchin' their heads.

I agree. I blame Nolan for only adding Rises after The Dark Knight. Great title and everything, really relevant to the plot, but come on! Having a film and graphic novel with very common parallels in plot at junctures, and you end up with words in the titles getting mixed up.

A title like "Batman Deals Freaking Justice" would be new & hard to confuse... :))

Dark knight returns is arguably the best or equal best of the animated movies, Have it on bluray, also has a great documentary on the life of Bob Kane.

As 0BradyM0Bondfanatic7 Stated it was because of Jason Todds death, In the animated movie they allude to Jason Todd rather than come right out and say it.

Interesting watching Dark knight Returns, certainly made me appreciate what Nolan was trying to achieve with his interpretation of Batman even more so than before. Dark knight trilogy certainly borrowed or rather reimagined elements from Dark knight returns and knightfall and Year one. Kudos to Nolan for his ambition.

Is the DC animated Dark Knight Returns true to the graphic novel? I have heard great things about it.

Not read Dark knight Returns part 1 for over ten years, though my brother did say there were a few changes, you would be amazed by my brothers Batman memorabilia he is quite an expert on Batman, and is working on his own Batman graphic novel he is a brilliant artist. We both love the movie, its a must watch mate. They have obviously improved on the animation, they retain the original look of the graphic novel and it works perfectly, i won't spoil it by saying what great shots are in the movie. I will say Peter Weller is a inspired choice for Batman/Bruce.
  • The animated Dark Knight Returns is AWESOME and I can't wait for part II

Are you in the states mate? If yes wondered what Dark knight returns part 2 release date was, don't have a release date in UK as yet well not found one trying to gage when it will be out here.

Forget that mate, bizarrely as i am writing this my brother just text me and said it is out on Jan 29th in UK can't wait to watch it.
  • Watched it just this morning- it ROCKED. Without spoiling anything, for those who are wondering if they'll keep some of the more violent parts from the comic intact, you won't be disappointed!

Great stuff, would love Bruce Timm and his team to adapt Knightfall at some point.

As much as I have a soft spot for the good ol' 60's Batman, there are times when I wish I could have seen Adam & Burt in a serious version of Batman. I mean, look at this picture I found of them just chilling and being themselves between filming. They both have the look!

    tumblr_mh0yb8uer01qc1sduo1_1280.jpg

Just picture a 60's Batman show with the same style and class as the early Bond films- no wackiness. I drool at the thought....
