I'm getting The Long Halloween vibes, which is great. I think we're going to get a Batman film that is part comic book, part Se7en.....how can I not be excited by that?
Also listening to Reeves in the Q&A has me even more confident that he knows exactly what he's doing.
That being said, the casting is throwing me. There isn't a bad actor in there, but some of them I simply just don't see as the characters. Colin Farrell being a prime example - was there nobody that fit the middle aged, overweight, and balding description?
I really am hoping I'm wrong because everything else about that trailer is a sign of the perfect Batman film.
I'm with you on this. Please good lord, no more depictions of his parents being killed. We have had 3 depictions of that scene in the last 12 years or so, already.

I quite agree on Colin Farrell, seems like stunt casting to me.
I’ll be honest - I’m not sold on Pattinson or his edgy scowl and floppy emo fringe, but I’ll reserve judgment until it’s released. And if he is as good as Keaton, Bale or Conroy, I’ll give him his just dues.

I wonder if it would harm anything to occasionally make a proper live action Batman film that kids could watch though.
Funny, trailers like this one or TENET's really don't sell the films to me. And the industry choices for some franchises leave me absolutely dry.
Good were the days when films were about men, not boys. And real men at that, not emo brooding depressed late teens in their 20s and 30s.
Just an opinion, of course. I'm sure this will make a ton of money. That's the (only) point nowadays, isn't it?
For me personally, this is the Batman film I've been waiting for.
I do agree with @Univex, however, that I am yet to be sold on Ro-Pat. Post-Twilight, people kept telling me how good an actor he is. I saw him in High Life, Cosmopolis, The Lighthouse, ..., which I find good films but despite Pattinson. I have yet to see him give more than two facial expressions. And does he know that an actor can use the power of voice inflexion too?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on him. In fact, Batman doesn't need to sing his lines, not since '66 at least. ;-) But the "great thespian" Robert Pattinson is still a bit of a mystery to me.
Two ends of the same spectrum, this and JL. One too close to realism, the other too close to fantasy, when they should be looking at a balance.
In regards to money, @Denbigh my friend, I was mainly referring to the casting.

I'm vengeance....I love that line. And the Batmobile looks really stylish.
And I suppose for me it is different as I've always resonated with Pattinson as an actor, so I can understand why others may not be feeling it.
As for the tone, I wouldn't go for Snyder or even Nolan. To me this feels more like the tone and style of a Fincher film. Se7en and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which are both films I love.
But again all fair comments :)

I really love the tone and mood of this trailer. As you say, it's very Fincher. Which I think is perfectly suited to Batman as a character. The real star of this trailer has to be Greig Fraser. The cinematography is stunning.
It's also hilarious to me as the scene with the media trucks was filmed next to my office in London and I was there that day. So weird seeing that road with a 'dark and edgy' filter 😂
The style of the piece is intriguing. The set design is way more gothic than Nolan. but not in that overly Burton-esque. It certainly seems unique. It looks as though Matt Reeves is doubling down on the 'creepy church' aesthetic.
If I had to flag a hesitation, it would be that (weirdly) Pattinson seems a little off. I was convinced that he'd be the perfect Bruce Wayne/Batman. But something isn't clicking just yet. Maybe it's the overly emo hair (I mean how hard is it to do hair?). I think the whole 'edgy' vibe is at risk of being contrived. This feels like a Batman built for the Gen Z crowd.
He looked more like Bruce Wayne in Tenet...
Completely agree but there is an haunting vibe in that trailer that kept me intrigued despite i have been very vocal about not being a fan of Pattison's acting after seeing him in so many film's. But being a fan of batman, definitely going to watch whenever it comes out.
BTW, bleak and desaturated doesn't make for stellar cinematography in my book. Fincher knows his way around light and dark, and that makes a huge difference. Granted, maybe Greig Fraser is on par with Harris Savides and Jeff Cronenweth, but I didn't see anything on that trailer that sparked my enthusiasm for the way the film looks. I guess I'll wait and see. Same goes for TENET and that overrated one trick pony that is van Hoytema.
I'll grant you one thing, that "I'm vengeance" line, in place of the usual "I'm Batman", worked well, even if a bit gratutious.
Agreed. No excitement raised in this neck of the woods either. Maybe it was the hair, but Pattison comes across all 'cosplay' as Batman.
And there's nothing i like better than a no nonsense Batman, but the "I am vengeance" moment seemed a little....gratuitous to me.
Still, its only a short trailer and not the entire film so i reserve judgement.
TBH, the only element that remotely intrigued me was Jeffrey Wright as Gordon. Wright has a presence and level of cool that elevates any shot he's in.
Granted, I suppose the Nolan films were a game changer, but this film doesn't look distinctive enough to get me interested. Even the trailer itself pretty much looks to me like every other trailer out there.

Possible storyline for Ben Affleck’s cancelled Batman movie. Could make a great comic book one day though. Geoff Johns and Chris Terrio are co-writers.
