The latest Star Trek film (Into Darkness) was meant by a chorus of boos by Trekkies at this year's convention. The fans have ranked all 12 films with Into Darkness coming stone dead last - even behind The Motion Picture and The Final Frontier. Wow! And I thought us Bond fans were harsh ;-)

Wow that's just pathetic. I loved Into Darkness. It was a refreshing return to TOS.

I agree. It was a brilliant film. How on earth it is ranked bottom I'll never know. Says something when they include Galaxy Quest on that list. WTF? Looks like Trekkies are less keen on the whole reboot thing. I expect most of em are also members of DCINB.com ;-)

Yeah I tried having an intelligent conversation with one, they kept ignoring my good points in favor of there biased opinions and unreasonable hatred towards JJ Abrams. and the person I talked to was at least 10 years older than my self being 22.

I'm a die hard Trekker myself, and I haven't even seen STID yet. I'll see it in a rental. My Son (who's also a fan) said that "If it isn't Shatner & Nimoy, it isn't Kirk & Spock." He watched ST09, and said aside from seeing Nimoy in it, it was pretty bad. I'm a little kinder, as in I kinda liked it. :))
Me & my fellas feel like Abrams Trek is like decent fan fiction.
And, I'm a big fan of ALL Abram's other work, just so ya know. He's just not a fan of Trek himself, so how would one expect him to approach it as other than an action thing?

It is akin to people saying 'If it ain't Connery, it ain't Bond!' What a complete load of crap

Neither was Nicholas Meyer yet he made two of the Best Star Trek films. Robert Wise wasn't a fan either if I recall correctly and TMP was pretty much an overlong remake of the Changeling. The Director being a fan shouldn't have anything to do with it.

The two directors you cite SAW Star Trek TOS in research for their jobs; Abrams did not. So no, you don't have to be a fan, but it helps to be knowledgeable about the source material.

Here: this is better than the Abrams movies...

But you haven't seen Into Darkness yet so how can you possibly make that statement?

I've already saw it. While it was an excellent effort. I just can't get into fan films. Non of the cast except for Chris Doohan made me think I was watching original TOS. That was the problems with Phase II. It has great effort put behind it, but I can't watch there actors. Most of the time they don't even look like who there supposed to be.

I know JJTrek isn't the same as RoddenberryTrek but things change over time for better or for worse. Just like Bond. However for me, I only like TOS Trek including the 6 movies and JJ Trek. I never really like The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager or Enterprise. They felt too pure and formulaic. TOS and JJTrek took risks and weren't afraid of it. You don't have to like it, but you do have to appreciate that it's bringing TOS back into the spotlight and expanding it's audience.

    Also...pointless credibility points...

Thank you. This was taken a few Months before Into Darkness was released. Plus I love wearing costumes to movies. It's one of my biggest moviegoing traditions. ;)

I agree there, and just for the record, I own ST09 and I do watch it occasionally. Unlike my Son, I think Kirk & Spock were rather wonderfully cast. I like it somewhere in between Continues & Phase II.

While it certainly isn't the worst movie in the franchise I am glad that it was met with disapproval. I liked ST 09 but I feel that STID was a big step down. I hope that Karl Urban gets his wish and they do something completely original for the next one.

Can you tell us why? I liked 09 as well, but somehow I didn't feel the need to see this new one in the theatre. Was it just the big stupid action movie that I perceived it to be?

No. It wasn't just an action movie. It had alot of classic trek story, while on the Enterprise. There was a few scenes elsewhere but it was mostly on the Enterprise. ;)

Yes, it's pretty much the polar opposite of ST TMP. The main cast is talented though. They tried their hardest. Also, it was a big mistake to rip off, er, pay homage to TWOK. It just served to show how superior that movie is.

The movie on itself was still very different from TWOK, while TWOK was more about a personal revenge on Kirk after an earlier meeting, STitDwas more about Kirk with his believes standing in the way of what Starfleet was supposed be to the baddie which was not Khan at all.
I found the new STar trek movie excellent entertainment. And Sherlock was great.

Simon Pegg's infamous "Neutron Cream" prank that claimed victims such as Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The look on The Cumber's face when he realises he has been had is bloody priceless! =))

(The frame rate on this video isn't brilliant. Hopefully a better one will be uploaded at some point).

Oh... that was brilliant. I especially like the liability waiver that Cumberbatch had to sign.

Just goes to show actors actually don't read their contracts before signing them! ;-)

Thanks for posting this, had me laughing a lot! Superb! :-bd
  • The moment when Cumber says "What??" is just one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. If you pause it and read the waiver in full it goes on to say

"...and that jumping up and down and shaking my hands makes me look like a silly bastard..."

Mr Simon Pegg. You are my hero and I salute you ^:)^
