Yes, nerd. Trek nerd. Justice league nerd. Bond nerd and I'm proud of it :))
20 years ago I believe we experienced the greatest ever year of Star Trek.
I was 21 years old and I was heavily into Star Trek.
Watching the first season of Star Trek Voyager over and over again.
Watching Star Trek Deep Space Nine which I consider to be the best ever TV Show to this day.
Re-watching early DS9 seasons, and favourite TNG episodes.
And then of course the Star Trek First Contact happened.
To this day it is one of my most favourite movies. I don't have a definite ranking but it could very well be the greatest movie ever for me.
GoldenEye, Star Trek First Contact, Batman Begins, those are the three movies I consider to be perfect and to be my Top 3 movies of all time. Now that Batman Begins also is 10 years old I know it has deserved to be in the Top 3.
First Contact is so great, so timeless and so visually stunning. Even after 20 years it can hold up easily with today's Sci-Fi movies. The special effects are brilliant and there is nothing you can criticise. Back then they knew how to make things look real. No over-use of CGI, still doing model work, real explosions etc.
This may be the best structured movie ever. There is no dull moment, the scenes in Montana are never longer than 3-4 minutes and it goes back to the Enterprise where the Borg create havoc and then back again to Montana to see what's happening there.
Data, Picard and The Borg Queen rule the movie. The character development that has been done before with Data and Picard comes to full circle in First Contact.
Of course, thanks to as usual brilliant performances by Stewart and Spiner it works all so well. Alice Kriege is spectacular as The Borg Queen.
There are so many nice touches in First Contact. The Holo Doc, Dixon Hill, Barclay, The Defiant!
The opening sequence of First Contact is a masterpiece. The movie doesn't waste any time. After already 12 minutes into the movie we see Starfleet battling the Borg Cube.
The score is one of the best ever. The use of the Klingon theme when Worf appears on screen battling the Borg Cube is a stroke of genius. The original themes created for this movie as well. Jerry Goldsmith just might have delivered his masterpiece with this score.
There is even some great comedy in First Contact. The scene with the drunk Troi and Riker and Cochran is priceless.
Jonathan Frakes really delivers with First Contact, he sure had a vision as the director of the movie and he succeeded in realising it.
For me personally it can't get any better than Star Trek First Contact. I know Wrath Of Khan is considered to be the best Trek movie and I will not argue with that. It is my second favourite Trek movie but it was before my time and I only saw it for the first time a couple of years before First Contact. I grew up with TNG and knew the original crew only by seeing some of the episodes of TOS on TV in the early or mid eighties.
Still, Voyage Home & Undiscovered Country remain my favourites.
Just watched Mudds women, this show never loses any of its original appeal. Rewatching the first season is a joy as always, so many classic episodes.
